That's beautiful wood. It looks a lot like honey locust.

@JamesCouch777 I've never worked honey locust, but from the pictures I've seen this sissoo is way more colorful. The color range in the heartwood is very wide. Thanks for watching!

Thank you, Robert! I'm finishing up the video of the other half of that log right now. This one's even prettier!

Thank you, Jamie! It's a glorious wood, and I'm lucky to have acquired those logs. I think I have almost 100 blanks of it! I've been thinking of doing a "log swapping" road trip to get some different species and share what I have with other turners. I think that would be fun.

I don't think I've seen anyone else turn sissoo (I am not a woodworker of any kind), this is beautiful. I'd be interested to see how it warps/settles into its dry shape over the next year.

I'm kind of surprised as well. This stuff is all over Phoenix. So much so that the guy that cut these trees down is a specialist in only that tree. It's his entire business. The tree is so agressive, they have to drill down into the stump and apply herbicide to keep it from coming back and destroying infrastructure. If I had more storage room, I would take every log I can get. It's so pretty and easy to work. Since I turn them pretty thin and it's so dry here, the bowls don't move that much after turning. It's only noticeable if there is a knot included, then there is more uneven movement. Thanks for watching!

Do you use the denatured alcohol as your polish instead of bees wax etc?

No, just to clean the residual sanding dust out of the grain. Then I did a coat of shellac sanding sealer, yorkshire grit abrasive paste, and polishing paste. On this wood, it leaves a finish like glass.

Nice bowl and nice work. That's one I would sit on the counter to hold some nuts maybe and enjoy it daily.

@@JamesDumas-b1x thank you! I have it (and it's twin) on my coffee table. It's one of my favorites. I think I will make some more to sell. Thanks for watching!
