    Great job my friend and a great looking bag for the range. I used to use Cat litter but got away from it once i discovered .20 air soft bb’s, a way better alternative. Keep up the great work.

    More people should seek the knowledge of sewing. Truly important skill and a moneysaver. This is a good video. I have grandmas hand sewing kit, some old holy jeans to cut up, and no desire to spend 30+ dollars on a bought bag. Suppose I'll get busy. Thanks.

    A terrific video from camera work to instructions. I think my wife will have a new honey do job if I’m lucky. I bought a 20# box of crushed walnuts from Harbor Freight that a lot of people use for “sand” blasting. I don’t think there would be any mushy messes like with rice or kitty litter if it gets wet. Once she finishes the front bag she can start on the rear. I have plenty of crushed walnuts.

    Love this video I've been wanting to buy a shooting bag for awhile. I just got a heavy duty sewing machine and this is awesome.

    Use dollar store UNSCENTED and NONCLUMPING cat litter if you are going that route so that it doesn’t turn into a solid cube if it gets exposed to moisture, the cheaper litter will be heavier and more gravel-like.

    I see a problem with the kitty litter ever since its designed to capture water, humidity so my guess would be that after a couple off wet or humid days that stuff will turn hard as a brick

      I use .20mm Air Soft BB’s works great in shooting bags, compacts nice and easy to change shooting angles, perfect shooting bag filler.

    I think a handle sewn into one side is an excellent idea to help you carry from the car/truck to the shooting range bench. Just going down to a river with a shovel or hand trowel to scoop sand into the bag is best in my opinion. Why use food product that you can eat? Another type of fill would be Styrofoam pellets and it saves weight. USMC Sniper's just use a wool sock and pinto beans for the rear support... and if your in the field for any length of time you can just cook the beans! LOL.

    I use soft air-gun pellets or other plastic granular in my shooting bags. Its lighter to carry, "waterproof" and still provide the same kind of stable support of the rifle!

    Great video but do you leave the velcro as is so you can top the bag up with kitty litter if needed?

    Great video. If A guy wanted to build some small squeeze type shooting bags, do you think 1000D would be too heavy? Also, what stitch size, needle size and thread size do you like for 1000D? Thanks!

    Have you made one with straps for mounting on the front of your rifle or around your arm for support in awkward shooting positions?

      Not yet, I plan on making some more in the future, I may try to add the strap on the front

    I made some bags out of denim jeans the legs cut in sections . I used a sewing awl I picked up at harbor freight , that might help someone that doesn’t have a sewing machine . Also , another filler ppl might try , I used dried pinto beans in several bags and they have been great . Just another way to skin a cat lol. Like your bags , where did you buy cordura fabric at ?

      Denim is a great idea! I bought my Cordura through a company called Rocky Mountain Fabric. I think I linked it in the description.

    Have an idea for an "L" shaped rear shooting bag. Why "L"? It, in my view, is perfect as a Rear Bag. The long portion of the "L" rests against the shoulder and the short portion of the "L" is where the Butt End of the rifle rests. (1) Very stable, (2) helps in recoil management and (3) is less inclined to move during breathing. Would you be willing to make sure a bag for me? Thank you.

    is there a standard extra size to leave for stitching beyond what you want the finished size to be. For example, i want an 8x10 panel how much extra do you leave ?

    Chris I have a question in regards to Codura Fabric. I’m trying to figure out how to cut small oblong shapes into the fabric(kinda the shape of mlok on an AR15 handguard). I tried a Cricut with a Bonded Fabric cutter but that didn’t work. Any idea of a good way of doing this in a repeatable way that looks professional? Thanks Man!

    It seems to me that you could use a plastic grocery bag as a liner - essentially eliminate any joint stress or litter leakage at the seems.

    Rather than cutting 4 8x10 pieces, could you have cut one 8x 40 piece?

    • @DarkMetalFabrication
      @DarkMetalFabrication  5 років тому +5

      Hey Charles, I think you would be fine using an 8x40 piece. I preferred the 8x10 pieces to ensure cube shape. An 8x40 would end up being a bit more round, but it would certainly still make a great shooting bag.

    Can you make a shooting bag with “V” top shape?

  • @armick57
    @armick57 4 роки тому

    What type of thread are you using. I was going to make a bag and fill it with coarse sand or maybe even some lead shot.

    • @rubenbarrios4367
      @rubenbarrios4367 4 роки тому +1

      Shot would make it awfully heavy. I was thinking rice or other grain. But then you have to worry about rodents.

    • @barneygo2010
      @barneygo2010 3 роки тому +1

      Sand is plentiful and you can regulate/choose how coarse or fine you want it. It’s downside is that it’s heavy and when it’s wet; much heavier. Ouch. Although depending on your application it is stable. Lead shot is even heavier, but if you remain at the range, the heavier bags can remain in the truck/van/car. My competition bags have Poly Beads from a craft store, smaller grains than say... Airsoft pellets. Enjoy the addiction! Cheers

    Not trying to be a jakkashs: But why would you make a bag to camouflage cat-litter? If you want to bring the cat outside it can poop in the forest. No need to bring cat-litter!
