    We started "homeschooling" through a charter school last year in August. The main reason we went with the charter school is because I was afraid of the record keeping/etc. and didn't really know where to begin with homeschooling. Since watching your videos, I have felt more empowered to homeschool on our own and I just recently let the school know we won't be coming back. (Don't get me wrong....they were very helpful and a great little school. I would just prefer to have complete freedom to do our own thing in our own way.) I think I've got everything together already to file the PSA in October. Thanks for the encouragement! :)

      Well at least I’m not alone in that! It seems so scary when you haven’t ever done it before and you’re terrified that you are going to mess up the paperwork or miss something. I have been telling myself that I’m capable of figuring it out and I will shoulder this fear and responsibility to ensure my son gains a proper education where he is not left behind and is taught how to learn as opposed to what to learn.

    Yes please do a video on work permits and high schooler getting a job. You are awesome. We were shockingly accepted to a charter and thought there was no way after that AB88 bill passed. I already had my eyes set on PSA and then I received an email we were accepted. I feel more stressed that we were accepted and all the nonsense that comes with samples and the scrutiny that will come this school year. Not to mention, both my kids have IEP'S and that's another story. I am 99% sure I will be telling the charter no thank you. I feel more confident with my planning for my kids than jumping through hoops.

    This will be yr 2 homeschooling through a Charter... because of the massive amount of students my charter took on during pandemic, they added staff to accommodate those new students now the state has frozen per student funding meaning I have no idea if I will get $ from them to buy the required curriculum. I have been petrified to independently homeschool from the get go that is why we chose a charter. Your info is a breath of fresh air, it has given me the courage to at least consider letting go of the charter that requires sooooo much from me in way of samples, testing and meetings with a teacher of record. I’m excited to watch your coming videos so I can get more familiar and educated with homeschooling w/out a charter 🤗. Thank u!

      Hi, this is my first year homeschooling starting with kindergarten. I was a bit terrified when I got into reading the laws of homeschooling in California but thanks to your videos they have helped clear the confusion and the fear! Now since I’m still in the learning process, I’m a bit confused about “absences”. How does it work in homeschooling? Do you just mark your child absent any day they don’t do schoolwork or do do you need to have an excused reason as to why they were absent like illnesses, family engagements, etc like they do it in public school? Also, do I need to follow the public school calendar and homeschool Monday through Friday or can it be any days of the week as long as I cover 5 days or the 150 or so days for the year? How is my child considered absent in homeschool? Can you please explain this in more detail! 🤔Thank you 😊

    Our son just turned 5 yrs old. The only reason we picked a charter school is because our son is autistic and has an IEP and we felt like we needed the help with special education curriculum and services for Speech therapy and Occupational therapy. Also for accountability for us as the parent educator and accountability for our son because our son seems to be more receptive when he sees someone else besides us the parents giving him direction. We also feared that we may not educated enough or qualified to teach him. We are currently using some work books for kindergarten we found online and doing our own homeschooling. So, we did enroll our son to a charter school a few months back for the new school year. Now, we know if we get truned away we will do our own homeschooling for a year and file for the PSA next year in October when our son has turned 6 yrs old. We have been teaching our son on our own of and on, but the comfort of knowing we have guidedance is what we seek mostly. Now when it comes to services, our resort would be to get services from our medical insurance provider and have the Regional Center help us paybthe copayments. This was a suggestion from our service coordinator from the Regional Center. But I think there is a cap in hours per month. We really are needing Speech therapy and I hope this works out. Thabk you for making yhese videos. I had found you on here a few weeks back and I'm glad I did. I also started following you on IG. I would need to get a Facebook account, but facebook really confuses me 😂.

    We have been doing charter homeschooling the past two years and all it has done is stress me out. I love teaching my daughter, but I dislike having to consistently answer to someone. I have always wanted to independently homeschool, but I keep holding myself back out of fear. Honestly, the money/"free" resources from the charter is the only thing that appeals to me. New Subscriber here!!! Thank you for all this very helpful and supportive information. We have only homeschooled our daughter, but it's so important to learn what options are out there for us. As she is growing her needs and interests are evolving, so it's nice to get the support :) One thing I am hesitant with when it comes to independent teaching/learning is how they test, or prepare for college here in CA. Our daughter is in 4th grade, but that has been a constant concern since I started homeschooling. We have gone through private online academy schools only, but every year (mid-year) I like to consider other options that could be beneficial for her education. Thinking ahead really intimidates me in how to prepare her for college when I'm ignorant when it comes to independent homeschooling (state exams, SATs, etc). We want her to have options for continued education, so naturally I worry about what is expected of us when that time comes. If you have a video covering these concerns please direct me, if you don't mind? Thank you for your time and energy put into your channel, I truly value and appreciate everything you're sharing.

    • @HomeschoolHangout
      @HomeschoolHangout  4 роки тому +5

      Homeschool families have never gotten money. I think what you are referring to is the AB 77 change that is having all schools keep the funding levels of last year regardless of new students. So if you go to a homeschool style chatter (which is public school) they won't get any funding so many aren't taking new students. As far as budget for independently homeschooling.... You can do it at any budget. There are lots of free resources along with pricey classes and programs.

    • @elizpiproon
      @elizpiproon 4 роки тому

      Jackie will know more about this, because she's graduated a student, but I would say, start with the end in mind. Does your student want to attend a 4 year college right away? Make sure you are meeting those requirements. Do they want to continue in community college? Work? Military? You craft the curriculum to meet their needs. There are literally no requirements from the state for California homeschoolers.

    • @HomeschoolHangout
      @HomeschoolHangout  4 роки тому

      As far as "How many classes does my student have to take from me in proportion to what they take at college?" There is no requirement. Now what do they need to graduate, that is a different thing. Remember, as long as your child learns something in your home, they attended school. Regardless what, if any, "class" you consider it.

      Homeschool Hangout Thank you for that information. My daughter just turned 5 a few days ago July 18th does that means I do not need to file a PSA? Any other information I need to submit or someone I need to inform that she is starting kindergarten?

      You don't need to file anything or tell anyone!

    For California homeschooling law. I'm requirement to spend a certain amount of time on each subject . Or do I choose how long I spend or teach a subject

      You choose. You decide what your students study or not. There are literally no requirements. One of the hardest things is letting go of public school expectations. You create the goals you have for your students and then find the resources to meet those goals.

      I agree with Elizabeth! You do what you need/want to do for them to learn what you want them to learn!

      So no requirement of 180 school days per year. Like I have read. Want to double check, I am just a little nervous to be filing. I love the idea of a free range system and being able to teach my kiddo about subject that he can benefit as an individual.
