    Hi! I loved the positive approach to addressing the pros and cons! We are about to start our 4th year of homeschooling and just switched to Springs Charter Journey Homeschool for the 23/24 school year.

    Thanks guys, this homeschool transition with the charter has been very difficult for me an my kids but I’m hoping California will change their stance on masks and vax soon so my kids can get back to school. And if not, i may independently homeschool 🤷🏼‍♀️

      I just went from homeschooling independently to charter zoom. So far I absolutely hate it. The kids and I are so frustrated!

    Thank you for this very informational video. We will be transitioning to homeschool through a charter this year bec my kid is ‘behind’ and eventhough he has autism, I know he will do great with one on one teaching bec he excels in math. Also, with 20hrs ABA therapy and speech therapy, this way we could adjust our schedule in a way that’s not too much for him. I’m hoping and praying this will be a better fit for our family.

    We currently use a charter school here in Indiana. It's new to our state, and has been a blessing as we have only been homeschooling two years (public school prior). The downside to our charter is that the teachers union and supporting groups are against this homeschool charter. Praying that a recently passed bill in our state doesn't eliminate our charter! You are spot on with the pros and cons!

    This is a great video! Our family has been with our Charter for 6 years now and I agree wholeheartedly with all your pros and cons!
    Another Pro I would add is the availability of special education services for students who qualify for an IEP, which also brings the possibility of personality conflicts with providers but that wouldn’t differ from a brick and mortar in my opinion.
    I also think it is important to stipulate that the educational funding is not extra money in our bank accounts to do with as we please… there are a lot of rumors that California pays you to homeschool and that we abuse our funds. It’s important to stress that there are no handouts for us and that all the money stays with and is managed by the school. The families don’t have access to the funds beyond requesting how they are spent and even then it can only be paid to approved educational vendors.

      How much do they give per student?I’m in Southern California

    • @desireecisneros5802

      @@lih1352 Funding is determined by each charter and often also depends on the grade level of your student. You can usually find the instructional fund amounts on the charter website.

    This is my first time homeschooling through a charter school and I’m excited about everything about the pros you both mentioned but we really would want to buy faith based curriculum as well but I am excited and thankful I stumbled upon your UA-cam ! ☺️

    Great video. Thank you ladies. I’m a former educator and have been homeschooling 3 years through a PSA. My husband really wants me to join a charter so we’re giving it a try. I’m curious to see how we can incorporate our faith into our daily work and still be supported by our teacher. There are so many hoops and my kids are just in k and 2nd.

      You'll find that a lot of teachers that work for these homeschool charters are believers. We had no problem incorporating faith in our school. They're very used to families with faith and know all the "work arounds" for the state.

    I'm in CA as well and I'd love to know more specifics of what to ask the Charter Schools and to make sure they are a good fit. Any red flags to look out for, etc. I'd love to be able to email either of you to be able to continue a conversation! Thank you!

    Very helpful since I am starting my child this coming school year with a charter school. Does charter school have lunch program since we are considered public school?

    my heart is aching for my son he's in fourth grade has been in the Spanish language immersion program but now struggling with core subjects since everything is only in Spanish and there's possibly some learning disabilities, so it is hard for him to retain information.
    I am researching schools to see if I can change him now to homeschool, but I am worried about teaching core subjects. when I am in a charter school can I still take him to learning centers with the charter school and if I do that, does the learning center provide curriculum and
    then I get it approved from my charter school? how does that work?

      Hi! We encourage you to contact your homeschool charter as each one works differently! We are sorry about your son. If you are feeling called to homeschool, you can do it! There is a lot of support and curriculum you can rely on. 🧡

    I live in California and it doesn’t seem like there’s freedom in a charter at all. It’s been nothing but a headache! If I want to go back to independent can I pull my kids out in the middle of a semester?

    • @ChipsnSalsaHomeschooling
      @ChipsnSalsaHomeschooling  10 місяців тому

      It really does depend on the charter and your relationship with your ES. We enjoyed a lot of freedom with our charter, there's structure and admin work but freedom as far as curriculum choice and other important things. Yes you can pull the kids out and go independent in the middle of the semester. I did that with my daughter in High School. All the best!

    I currently homeschool (PSA ) with my son. How much does each student receive in a school year? One of the reasons I homeschool is because of all the unnecessary extras added into the curriculum (gender, orientation, race etc). I teach him to love and respect everyone but I do not wish someone else to push their personal ideologies to him. Will being part of a Charter be an issue for this reason? Another reason we homeschool is because he doesn’t have immunizations.

    • @ChipsnSalsaHomeschooling
      @ChipsnSalsaHomeschooling  2 роки тому +1

      It really depends on the charter. These are great questions to ask when you enroll. The average that students receive in California is $3000/year per student. We were able to enjoy all the freedom of choosing what we wanted to teach our kids without the charter pushing anything and still benefit from the funds. As far as sex education goes, we were able to opt out of that and teach them ourselves. Vaccine requirements differ from school to school. Some don't require it at all because they are considered home-based. Others require it if they offer learning center classes. It's just a matter of asking.

    is homeschooling through charter school applicable to military families who moves in and out of the country?

    • @ChipsnSalsaHomeschooling
      @ChipsnSalsaHomeschooling  Рік тому

      Charter schools are public, therefore we think you would have to live in the same state, unless they are designed to also service military families outside of the US. It's worth asking!
