The original flasher relay probably still works, just not with the LED taillights. The old style relays were basically a circuit that used a capacitor and resistors wired in a certain way to flash the light bulb and relied on the bulb's resistance to work properly. Since the LED lights have very different resistance characteristics from an incandescent bulb, it won't usually work with the stock flasher unless you use something like a load resistor. The best solution though is what you did by getting an LED specific flasher unit. Great video as always.

R.J. Bedore thank you for explaining that, I wasn’t sure why it didn’t work but that now makes sense 👍

@@CafeRacerGarage No problem, glad I could help. I have been looking for a retro/scrambler style bike with shaft drive for a while, but BMWs are out of my reach and Moto Guzzis are hard to find here in the States, so I have been watching your build intently. I wasn't sure if I had the requisite tools and skillset to do a project like this when I first came across your channel, but I have learned a lot from watching you go through the process, so I am happy I could share a bit of knowledge with you. Thanks in large part to your excellent videos I have started looking for a bike I can do a similar conversion on myself. Thanks again for the great content!

I stumbled onto your channel after I found out I might be getting a builder bike (and the assistance of experienced bike builders) within the next couple months and I decided I wanted a scrambler. I devoured all of your scrambler challenge videos within a few days and you have totally given me the confidence that I can try this out. Please keep these videos coming!

Hi Dan , tidy job. It looks like my CX a couple of weeks ago. I finish the electrics too but I had to hide some cables and plugs under the fuel tank and i mounted the horn on the right hand side by the carbs using the the end of one of the engine mounting brackets bolt it had a couple of cm left so just a nut needed and you don't see it as the original is a big one. Thanks for the video. have a good weekend ride. Gus

Great video as always i really like the longer videos. Just a tip for next time you are working with a horn and it doesn't work, the little screw on the back is an adjustment turn it a tiny bit either direction and you can sometimes get the horn working again. a lot of times the older gina get filled with dirt and just need to be cleared out.

Here is a little trick for your joint. To avoid big lump in your wire harness you can staggered the joint, if possible, this way you get a more uniform harness and also better protection against short wire.

Have you considered using solder seals instead of a soldering iron? All you need is a lighter or heat gun. They're so much easier than doing it with an iron and solder and are completely insulated.

I put LED blinkers on my GL1100, as they will NOT work with the 'old' 80's relay I purchased a LED blinker relay (adjustable).... as they have to flash between 60 - 120 flashes per minute.

Been binge watching your vids on the CX500 scrambler after hearing about your channel on Classic Octane. Back in the day we used to make fun of these bikes but the engines are bullet proof and with a shaft drive the whole powertrain is very dependable. You have a different style than Taylor but I like it just the same. Curious about the speedo, what will you do about an oil pressure indication? Your speedo doesn't have the idiot light for oil pressure (at least you didn't mention one), so will you go with a gauge? I know the video is 3 years old, but maybe you'll comment back. And yes, I subscribed, too.

Hey brother yes Taylor is an awesome guy 👍
In regards to your question, I just deleted the light altogether, it’s probably not the wisest thing to do and I should look at putting one in but at this stage it doesn’t have one.
