Great double reaction, this is an anthem for them. The first video was the official music video too (fortunately they used the live audio for this one) from January 2015 at the Saitama Super Arena. Su was 17, Yui and Moa only 15 and, as you saw, that was over 20,000 people completely under their control. Even at that age Su just looks at the crowd, spreads her arms and the crowd opens up for a wall of death (actually several walls of death at that concert. A journalist up in the balcony that night said he counted, i think it was, 21 mosh pits).
This was only the third time they had played it live and the first at an arena concert. They debuted the song in Brixton in London a month or so earlier - nobody had heard it, they didn't even know it existed or the song title ... and Su had the English crowd all singing along effortlessly despite that.
They played it in Japan at a small fan club members only event, but this was the first time most of this crowd had even heard the song - can't blame them for getting excited and getting ahead of the timing.
About the song itself. 'Road of Resistance' is a very positive song, it isn't the usual "resist the machine or the system etc" that we might expect from the title. It is about forging your own road even where a road doesn't already exist, not necessarily going the easy way or following the path already made by somebody else, so if the way you want to go has never been trodden you may have to get past the resistance of the undergrowth, obstacles, hurdles and things blocking your way etc to find your own way.
It could easily be used to describe BABYMETAL's own story - they could have followed the well trodden path of J-Pop and been very successful, but they chose to go with Metal ... but again they didn't just follow the same old format of every other metal band, they have done it their own way and it hasn't always been an easy route to follow.
As you know Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce did the guitar arrangements for this song (it is the only one they were involved in) and recorded the guitars for the album version. You have been told about them playing it live together at an awards show in London later in 2015. I don't think anybody said that Herman Li said they wrote the guitar parts to be faster and more technical than most of their own songs thinking they would never have to play it live - and they had to practice hard when they were told about the awards show.
This was the Kami Band East playing in the first video (Leda Cygnus and Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums) and the Kami Band West at PIA Arena (Chris Kelly and CJ Masciantonio on guitars, Clint Tustin on bass, Anthony Barone on drums).
I see 'Tales of the Destinies' has been mentioned as probably their most technical and complicated song - that is full on Prog metal and an homage to Dream Theater and they have played it live only one time, at the Tokyo Dome in 2016 in front of 55,000 people.

  • @gaplauche

I'm no musician, but Tales of the Destinies might be Babymetal's most difficult song instrumentally. 😅 It has over 30 time signature changes. It has only been performed once at Tokyo Dome in 2016. Speaking of that pair of concerts: Babymetal sold out the 55,000 capacity venue both conservative nights.

  • @road-runner

    Great reaction, again. Thanks!
About the sections on standing areas in shows in Japan, they do it for several reasons: the most obvious is safety: it's way easier to rescue someone from the pit this way. General organization also plays a role: each section is assigned previously and you have to queue with your section outside the venue. Each section enters the venue in order at different times. The position within the section is also pre-assigned individually so you have a number and you respect your position (yeah, it sounds crazy but it works). Of course, there are a few "priority" sections called "cho mosh'sh pit" placed near the stage and reserved for The ONE members (their official "fan club").
    A few combo suggestions:
    - The Trilogy of Lights: "Starlight", "Shine" and "Arkadia" (in this order).
    - "Tales of the Destinies" + "The ONE" (Tokyo Dome 2016).
    - "Akatsuki". Two versions: the regular one from Budokan Black Night 2014 and the "unfinished version" from Legend 1997.
And of course, "BABYMETAL DEATH" (not just "Death", it's important) before the guide.
    🤘🦊

For musical complexity, there's nothing that compares to 'Tales of the Destinies'. It's in fact such a beast that they've only ever performed it once, at Tokyo Dome in 2016; sort of just to prove it was possible. It's pretty notorious copyright notice bait though, so tread carefully...and if you can, find a copy that includes the next song as well, 'The One'. The 2 songs are written to flow from one to the other and watching the pair is the way to go.
And you're right about Su dropping the facade in later shows. They took a hiatus for a couple of years, and when they came back in 2023 they brought Momo on full time and Su's been clearly living her best life ever since. I suspect that she's taken on more of a management/leadership role in the project than she'd had when they were kids. She smiles like a person who's comfortable at the wheel of their own ship.

You are just spoiling us viewers with your really fantastic, genuine reactions. As you now realize this performance was requested so heavily because it is totally iconic. Su has said it is her favorite vocal performance. You've probably heard this already but the Dragonforce sound is because Herman Li and Sam Totman of Dragonforce arranged the guitar parts and played the guitars on the original studio release.
I am so with you on both of these performances. The PIA Arena one. When the camera is on Su and her wonderful smiling face. Well yeah, everytime I see that it brings a little tear of joy and oddly(?) pride to my heart. At what these young woman have done and continue to do. Absolutely heart warming.
Ok I'll keep this short on account of I'm probably repeating what others have said already.
But you asked for suggestions on other musically technical, powerful vocally and instrumentally performance. With the added benefit of crowd participation that will make you feel like you're there. Drumming that will physically wear you out just to listen too. And an ending with enough joy to refill the Colorado River basin. I'd like to recommend (perhaps as a one off): *Arkadia, Legend MM LIve 2024. I IMHO it is perfect performance (link follows): ua-cam.com/video/as315wXm_u4/v-deo.html See You Whisky Prince!

@@ShadeReactsLive Wow! that would be a double feature technical tour-de-force. On TotD an incredible thing to consider is Su's in ear went bonkers 10 seconds into the performance. She kept up with the performance listening to the drumming. When you hear this song it'll blow your mind that she was able to do that. She was and is such a pro.

This video was taken from their Fox Festival 2015 concert and was edited at the end to shorten the length of the video. In the actual full version, they do the "WE ARE BABYMETAL!"on all three stages, center, left stage, right stage, then back to the center stage, where the video picks up. The drummer, Hideki Aoyama, was going full force the whole time, going for like 5 minutes straight.

    • @Sherman1fan

      It's "only" about 2 minutes.
The longest "we are" is probably Budokan 2021 Doomsday X where the whole procedure with all the gongs takes 3.5 minutes. I think that performance also has the longest note held by Su with 13 seconds on the last RESISTAAAAAAANCE.

If you want to see more of the *Kami Band,* check out _Rondo of Nightmare,_ where they all get to take center stage for an extended intro called _"mischief of the metal gods"._ But for their most difficult and technically challenging song ever, you need to see _Tales of the Destinies._ A song that has only ever been performed live once, at the Tokyo Dome in 2016. It's an homage to Dream Theater and a progressive masterpiece. *For The Fox God* has got you covered:

you are doing great whiskey Prince Shade-Metal, the closest they have to RoR is "Arkadia" but for technical perfection, the Dream Theater inspired "Tales of the Destinies" and for another speed + power + technical proficiency is "Syncopation" oh and btw, when you see BABYMETAL Death Legend 1997, you will see how "METAL" these ladies can get...lol happy viewing. oh yeah one more thing they do have a remixed version of BABYMETAL DEATH, called Shin version, very heavy, very fast, and very short but meaningful, they only play it when something is coming to an end, like the Metal Resistance 10 year battle, or recently they used it to put an end to the old BABYMETAL, before they were reborn as the New BABYMETAL.

Nice reaction to this incredible anthem by BabyMetal. At the time of their performance in January 2015 at the Saitama Super Arena, Queen Suzuka had just turned 17, while Yui & Moa were 15½. Herman Li & Sam Totman of DragonForce played the guitar parts for this song on BabyMetal’s second album, METAL RESISTANCE; and there is a music video of the girls performing this song on stage with DragonForce at the 2015 Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards Show in London. You should react to ARKADIA (Legend MM 2024 Live). This is one of BabyMetal’s relentless assaults on the senses, a dazzling concert production with fire & lights, and a song with an infectious melody. To see Queen Su in an amazing solo performance, you should definitely react to AKATSUKI (Live at Budokan Black Night 2014). Her voice is stunningly beautiful and powerful, and you will get to see a fantastic dueling guitar solo by the Kami Band wizards. Queen Su looks awesome in her cape, and her death stare at the end is one of her best.

For "Karate" MV + Download 2016 + Legend 43 or PIA Arena.
For "Death" Legend 1997 + PIA Arena. This is important because this song is the opening for most of their set list especially with Legend 1997 (Yui's) and PIA Arena (Momo's). I will not spoil anything but you probably will notice it during the song.
For collabs, I think it's best is you go the which got released first.

That was fun! 😄 Now you know why we wanted you to react to "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan". Another ICONIC performance from BABYMETAL 😉 Su-Metal reeling the chanting crowd back in is a sight to behold!😁 As is ALL the circle pits STOPPING for the chanting part, and starting again right after it. Talk about respect 😉
This concert is famous for another reason, too. Watch "IDZ" from this concert to see a thing that happened only one time 😉
The PIA Arena MM version is iconic for many reasons, too. The crowd there was absolutely LIT. They even stayed on track in the Woooo-oo-ooo-o part 😁 The crowd performed WITH the ladies here, and tried to give the ladies a good show, too. And succeeded😉 There´s a short moment when Su-Metal even got a little bit emotional, I don´t know if you got that. Kami Band of the West on fire, too!
THE ONE at its finest 😉

I love your reactions and the format; 1,5h Babymetal reactions in the morning, what a way to wake up
I do not know, if somebody mentioned it already: Choosing your Nickname (Callsign)
The fans dubted Yui, Tomato Princess, as they dubted Momo, Princess Peach
Usually these names are bestowed on you (especially in the air fighter community; there it is even frowned upon if you try to give you your own name)
This is not a critique, but just some info. 😄
Anyway, seeing you go through the Discography and further down the Foxhole reminds me a bit of myself 3-4 months ago, when I (re)discovered them. Since then I listen to and watch Babymetal daily and always discover new things.

Original album version guitars were arranged and recorded by Herman Li and Dave Trotman of Dragonforce, who were some of BABYMETALS earliest celebrity supporters, even sneaking them onstage to perform with them when Download festival organizers deemed them too much of a "fad" to be included on the official lineup in 2015.

Well spotted with the Dragon Force connection. Herman Li and Sam Totman wrote the guitar arrangements for this song. If you wanted something more complicated than this wait until you check out Tales of the Destinies, live at Tokyo Dome in 2016. They only performed it live once for video (and I'm not surprised) so you won't need to react to different versions. It's a homage to Dream Theatres 'Dance of Eternity'. You can sit back and count all 108 time signature changes. 😀

In 2020 during their Legend Metal Galaxy tour in Japan this was performed as an encore and both East and West Kami bands played together. So 4 world class guitarists, 2 world class drummers, and 2 insane bassist all on stage with Babymetal. They also did IDZ with both bands during that concert series in Japan.
Yes, there were two Kami bands for a while. The East Kami band were the ones who generally wore the white corpse paint and supported Babymetal live since 2014 at all shows. In 2019 a new set of musicians from the west were used for all overseas shows, seen in blasck robes with masks. hence the West Kami Band name. There's a whole thing about then and their former band, which was a Star Wars metal cover band actually opened for Babymetal in 2018 at a special Halloween concert that was quite unique.
Anyway, both East and West bands eventually all wore the bl;ack and masks, and then the Eastern Kami band just stopped performing with Babymetal and the Western Kami's became the full-time live band in like 2021ish.

Guess what. RoR wasn't even officially released yet at the time of this Legend 1997 concert (Jan 10 2015). BM had debuted it live (provisionally titled The One; UA-cam has the fancams) some two months earlier at their O2 Academy Brixton gig (Nov 8 2014), then included the full audio as a limited-edition downloadable bonus with their video album Live At Budokan Red Night (Jan 7 2015) three days before the Saitama Super Arena gig. Somehow, the 20,000 attendees worked out the crowd-participation parts. It was so good that BM made it the official live video & uploaded it to UA-cam on May 6 2015.

    Great reaction as always!
Their anthem song, usually the finale, but not exclusively. The guitarist of Dragonforce wrote the guitar part of the song, making this technically their first collaboration with foreign artist. And this song don't have a music video.
I don't know what people are saying, but Su is not always serious. 🤣 She does change her expression depending on the song. And this goes to all three of them. It's just that most of their song has a serious vibe, so the death glares, and serious expression became quite common.
In Japan, usually crowds are split into sections in case of emergency. You know how Japan is with earthquake. Luckily, one never happened during Babymetal concert. But they were the earthquake instead. 🤣
Another fun fact, in Japan, crowds usually don't sing the lead melody line. They usually only sings the backing/chanting vocals. That's what makes Babymetal unique as a metal band, because they have two designated vocalist for that. So, if you were ever go to their concert in Japan, sing along Moa's and Momo's part.
Another very technical song they have would be "Tales of the Destinies", and "Arkadia".
But, "Tales of the Destinies" is connected to another song called, "The One". These two song were originally one song, but it got too long so they cut it and make it two songs. So if you react to "Tales of the Destinies", you can do "The One" after.
But there's also multiple version of "The One". The PIA arena performance of it is the standard version. There's a music video for it but it use live footage instead of a proper music video.
For "Arkadia", it is part of the 'Trilogy of Light', three songs that are connected together from their album. So, it's better to do those songs one after the other. 'Trilogy of Light' are; "Starlight" -> "Shine" -> "Arkadia".
"Tales of the Destinies" don't have a music video and only have been performed live once. And I think it's one of the hardest one to get past copyright. Even the video itself are gone sometime. So maybe put it on hold for a while.
Since you have a list already, just go with that.
Just minor correction, the "Death" song is actually called "Babymetal Death". People got confused sometimes since their name is in the title.
Babymetal - "Babymetal Death" Live at "Legend 1997 Apocalypse".
    Anyway, enjoy!!! 🦊🦊🦊

You know your music sir. Very very few reactors realize the moment Su is bringing the crowd back on tempo. To me that tells apart the ones who understand music on a deeper layer.
I don't think there is even MV for Road of Resistance. This song was born to be played live as a true anthem as continues to be nowadays.
They are definitely more often out of character in the last years. They seem to be harvesting the continuous years of wonders and awesomeness, enjoying the mutual love for their fans, without losing a little bit of professionalism on their perfect deliveries. And of course we love them happy and smiling more, after they've been 14 years bringing joy and happiness to millions of people.

Babymetal performed the most intricate song I have ever heard from a metal band, "Tales of the Destinies" live for a 55k ish audience in the Tokyo Dome. They performed it exactly one time, presumably because they did it perfectly, and it is nearly impossible to perform. It's also incredibly aggressively copyright claimed/struck so if you ever decide to react to it be super careful with it.

Right about 6:34 in your video Babymetal does a few seconds of choreo that matches to a bit by Karen Girl's from their song Over the Future. Starting to get deep into the backstory here. Karen Girl's was a Jpop Idol girls trio created to do music for an anime and was Su-'s first professional Idol group at age 10. It was at the Karen Girl's farewell concert following the end of the anime series that Kobametal heard Su- singing and started getting his inspiration for what would become Babymetal.
Yui was also at this same concert with her parents and her manager. And at that time there was a question of whether she would continue in the entertainment industry. While there is so much more to Yui's story here the end is she told her parents and manager "I want to be a Karen Girl's!"
Hopefully sometime after you do a guide, you will take a side trip to explore a couple of Karen Girl's songs, including Yui's and Moa's official audition for Sakura Gakuin and the Babymetal cover of Over the Future.

Enjoyed it as always Whiskey Prince Shade-Metal! Other than the very very beginning of BM, all live shows of BM has the live Kami band, the Eastern Kami (all Japanese musicians) band up until around 2018? The Western Kami (all US musicians) has taken over since. The first video is one of their most famous performances ever, other than maybe the 2014 Sonisphere show and Tokyo dome show(50,000 people). RoR is certainly one of the most instrumental technical songs BM has, I'd say Tales of the Destinies (performed live once ever) is up there, Arkadia, and Syncopation also come to mind. They normally do the "See You" at the end of almost every live show, I applaud you for doing it, well done sir. Ok man, Koba isn't calling you to handle the light show setup, appreciate the effect though lol. The whole PIA concert(Babymetal Begins The Other One) is actually my personal favorite shows period, I'd highly recommend if you ever buy a Bluray it be this one. Su was of course amazing even in her teens, but she is so fully developed in her adult life now, called the Queen for a good reason. I mentioned before that multiple times during both PIA shows you can see all 3 ladies get emotional a few times, Momo fully joining during this allowed BM to be fully reborn and reinvigorated for their new era that began after this. You'll be saying "This is my new favorite alot sir", it happens to us all. The old joke is.....What is your favorite BM song? The answer is usually........Yes. Many bands live off of a few legendary songs over their careers. IMO BM has so many great songs that it is hard to pin just one or 2 songs other than I guess Gimme Chocolate, even though many BM fans don't consider that their favorite really, it's just the most famous. Gonna check out your IDZ video next. Sounds good to do Karate next, BM Death, the Guide, then maybe Ratatata. I'd also throw in the other 2 collabs of Leave it All Behind by F.Hero and Bodyslam, and their newest song with Bloodywood "Behkauf", both of them are really great too. I say to stick with double reactions on the older songs or ones with music videos, otherwise the newer ones maybe just a single video. Certainly do a double for Ratatata, the MV and the live performance at Fox Fest, Leave it All Behind does have a live version, even though it is fan cam but is still pretty solid. Cya next time!
EDIT: Wanted to add about double reactions upcoming. For Karate I'd do the MV(really good), 2014 Sonisphere, then 2021 Budokan. BM Death I'd do OBVIOUSLY the Legend 1997(can't wait for this one lol), PIA Clear Night, now for a bonus throw in the alternate version of BM Death Shin Version from PIA Black Night. I really love the Shin version but was only peformed twice ever I think.

One of the funniest comments on the official video was something like: "I had to stop the video to give the drummer a break".
Watch the Legend Metal Galaxy version. The East and West Kami Bands (and a special appeareance of the guitar of the late Mikio Fujioka) and the 3 avengers performing together.
    See you.

It was arranged by Dragon Force for them, they played the original Guitars on the Album and they had to fight to go live through this song, when the Queen honored them at the Wembley Arena. Their biggest Show outside Japan till their Euroüean and Uk Arena Tour in the May of 2025. They new this for some time. These things have insane timetables..
What do you expect, this is a small venue compared to the Tokyo Dome and you can't see the crowd from stage. This is their closer by default.

hey, if you love babymetal's drummer, you should watch "arkadia" and "tales of the destinies", but you can react to Anthony Barone // SHADOW OF INTENT, he is the drummer of west kami and he is insame !
Continue like that, this is great reactions

So for technical, you've already got quite a few suggestions for Tales of the Destinies. That one you can do just the one live video for. Similar to Babymetal Death, Babymetal Death isn't really super lyrical. As for order, I would suggest doing Death first and then doing Ratatata afterwards (Note: it is said Ra-Ta-Ta-Ta, you'll get it once you do listen to it). Just for Ratatata, make sure you check out either Hypa Hypa or We Got the Moves by Electric Callboy before doing the collab. Of course could have that be your dual, actually lets go triple reaction for it (They do have a live video where both bands played it together). Also, I will say, when you do see them live, they all smile quite a bit, would say the stereotype on Momo though is pretty accurate she probably smiled the most lol. When I saw them, actually had a guy that I saw in the crowd for this song that brought in a banner that said Wall of Death and brought it out specifically for this song and organized the wall of death that would of course ensue. And they still end with the "We are" and "See You"
