I feel Band-Maid's longevity and success will become Endless Stories in the annals of Rock ‘n Roll history! Thx for always being there, Peter and SJ, because, "Band-Maid Fans want to know!"
Hi, Peter. Thank you for your impressions of the acoustic concert. I saw the photos on their site. Gorgeous. It's like a fairy tale setting (Wonderland?). Saiki became the 5th musician. Sugoi. As all Maidiacs know, Band-Maid always has surprises in store for us. We are all dreaming of Band-Maiko 2 on April 1st. I'm not worried about Kanami. The maturity she has acquired allows her to curb her instinct as a compulsive composer. His music seems more controlled and less complex to me. But I'm not a musician and this is just my personal opinion. I hope you can take a hot shower soon. LOL
Actually Mike was looking for milk at the catering section, and Akane told him "Milk is here" (behind Akane). Mike got curious about them because they were wearing maid outfits. So he introduced himself as Mike of Incubus, and then they had lunch together.
"Revenge of the Maids" Budokan show. Also, when I watched the Yokohama show on live stream, I was struck by how much powerful Saiki's voice had grown since the 2020 LIne Cube BD. Over the years I've watched primarily fancams to get an idea of their live performances and did notice that at times Saiki struggled, especially in her upper range (she was at times pretty pitchy), but now she's seemed so much more powerful and in control and I could not sense any struggle in her voice. Thanks for the recap, hope they make a video of this show.
Thanks for the deets on the BM Acoustic show Peter - yeoman service as always🙏 On the thing about Kanami's musical evolution perhaps 'not reaching' the masses...I suspect that has been happening to some extent for some time now..but I'm kinda with Rick Rubin on this, where he says (to paraphrase) the best art is always polarizing to some extent - there will always be those that 'get it' and those who don't (Babymetal is a great example of this). If Band-Maid ever abandons their artistic vision just to appease 'the masses'..well...that would be a verrry sad day indeed.
I agree. Over the last few years Saiki has really cranked it up to eleven. Recently she commented that Band-Maid finally feels like a true group. I'm not sure exactly what she meant, whether she was speaking only for herself, or for others in the band, but I can how how Saiki may have struggled in finding her place in Band-Maid. Since the beginning, Kanami's songwriting has exploded, Misa's bass technique expanded, Akane's drumming became faster and more precise, and Miku gained greater mastery of the guitar while writing incredible lyrics, Saiki struggled with her voice. I'm sure that Saiki, having seen how much effort her bandmates were doing to improve their play, knew she needed to do likewise. Since the lockdown we've seen her learning guitar and piano, writing more lyrics, and her singing is better than ever, not that she was ever anything less than great vocally. And don't forget how deeply Saiki is involved with the band's art direction and merch.
I like progressive music so I'm ok with Kanami's intricate and rhythmic arrangements. That is what has drawn me to them the most. Maybe on April 1, they'll do a very straight up, but killer basic rock song.
Is Kanami's songwriting an Achilles heel to garner today's mass audience? I would say more of a double edged sword since it's not a weakness but it can be much to take in for the masses. Thanks for the live report, Peter!
Audio gets good at the 2 MINUTE MARK!

Peter, I know exactly what you are describing about Saiki's voice ! I totally agree with you.

Daydreaming with a real live keyboard.. what a finish…
It seems to me the stage set up mimicked the Dec 22 stream set up
Acoustic BAND MAID is my favorite BAND MAID. Sadly no official CD available ...
