    I completely agree with you. While this isn’t true for everyone, there seems to be a great deal of entitlement in people today. They seem to expect that things can and should be handed to them without a ton of effort. It’s not just ESO it comes around in all walks of life.

    I know many mid level CP players that have no idea about rotations. Ignorance is real. I still suck at rotations but I learned the hard way...basically kicked myself from a group for pulling 15k in vDSA. After that someone actually broke down what a rotation even was. I’m better now but still working on hitting some better numbers.

    Great video! And that’s coming from me, a struggling casual player who hasn’t put in the proper work...at least not yet (I’m trying now, at least some). I’m a spaz, bad at weaving, easily thrown off even a simple rotation.... you name it, I probably do it wrong. Although I wish I could just say I’ll be better when I get new gear or more CP, I know it’s not true. So even if this isn’t what people WANT to hear, it’s still what they NEED to hear.

    I agree 100%
    I've been playing ESO since just before one Tamriel, switched from pc to PS4 just before Summerset, during that 3-4 year period I've only actually done acceptable DPS after my switch to ps4. And this is because of one reason, I exposed myself to great ESO content created by veterans like Asian, Alcast and xynode. I feel like the reason that a considerable amount of the ESO community, some would argue that it's the majority, cannot do good acceptable DPS, is simply because of the fact that information is not readily available regarding good DPS practices, rotations,animation cancelling and synergies between skills and sets and so on. Unless a person follows the content of veteran UA-camrs like Asian and Alcast that help the community or they have experienced friends, they simply do not understand the fact that what they're doing is wrong and that they have to change that. I can confidently say that almost every new player isn't even aware that farming/crafting gear from cp0-160 is a waste, and that they don't even know what a rotation is let alone how to properly pull off one. And this boils down to ESO not making all of this information readily available. Unless a person actively goes on to UA-cam to watch build videos, they have no exposure to any of this within ESO. ESO pushes players to basically feel like they can do whatever they like , and this is not the case in terms of being able to do good DPS. If ESO could promote these UA-camrs or incorporate actual end game DPS related tips and advice into the game, I feel like the majority of our DPS related problems within the community will be alleviated.

  • @Alron222
    @Alron222 5 років тому +4

    While I agree with pretty much all all points in the video, I don't think it will change many peoples mind. The thing is, what's being said here is already pretty clear to anyone with the mindset required to do decent in this game's non-trivial content. It has been stated many times by experienced players on the forums and everywhere else. The problem with people who cry about too high DPS requirements and "elitism" in this game is the following: they fundamentally want a different game and a different experience than we do. They want the gratification of feeling impact-full and powerful, but without having to put in any work. They want to feel good about themselves, but when they try to push themselves they start failing (as everyone does) and it makes them feel bad. As you said, they don't have the bit of discipline to persevere through that. That's the reason they will find endless external factors or people that they can blame for their failing, so that they can make sense of it without having to feel bad.
    That's why I don't believe that these people can really be reasoned with or talked to to change their mind, very similar to how you cannot reason with a religious person. It's why they won't leave and play a different game that's designed for them, that would require a minimum of self-reflection that could hurt their feelings, and they will retreat to the safe zone of "someone else's fault". As long as there are people doing better than them because they tried hard, it will be a thorn in their side because then they would also have to try hard.
    No amount of talking will give them the self-reflection or discipline they need to even realize that they might be wrong, it's something that I feel must come from experiences in your real life.

    The dummy parsing is important. If you want to get good at an instrument, you have to practice playing scales. If you want to get a better golf swing, you can go to the the driving range. Dummy parsing is crucial to DPS so the rotation becomes muscle memory during an actual trial encounter.

Just for fun I took all the armor and jewels off my magblade that I normally hit 45-50k with and ran a parse weapons only, so zero set bonuses at all, and still managed 28k. You can actually pull more than enough DPS for VHOFHM with a Heavy Attack Pet Sorc or Stam DK. Clean easy static rotations. As for anything after that I wouldn’t know from personal experience.I recommend those to people who like myself struggle with light attack weave centric builds like Magblade. 48-50K DPS is very obtainable on them. Great video Asian. We all have to have that come to “GGesus” moment as players. Where we recognize are limitations and strengths are as players. Only then can we realize our potential. The want to discover it. And the desire to put in the necessary work.

    My max is 45k on magplar, cp 630. Spell strat, zaan, siroria and im using sweeps, not ele weapon. Not easy to do, but not impossible. Its just learning the rotation and practicing. At the start, using the same gear i could only hit 25k. Weaving correctly got me to 30k. Optimising my bars and i went to 35k. Used 2 different enchants and made 40k. 45k was done after A LOT of practice, so that i knew exactly when and what skill to use. I knew the whole 3 million rotation by heart at that point, even while not playing i could tell you the rotation. That was all solo buffed, no Lover, no charged enchant, no crazy food. I got numbers around 50k in raids and dungeons at bosses and everything kinda melted. Was quite cool must admit but quickly got boring. So much so, that skipping mechanics made me realise how bland the dungeons become without them. Id just solo carry through vanilla stuff (vet hm of course) and have enough dps that with a tank who could hold aggro we d push through vet DLC dungeons (non hm). It gets kinda boring at a point, so much so that i made a new char, a fully slotted stam nb with Relequin, Tzogvin and Veli. Yeah i made a stam nb, but im not that good at his rotation so i pull just above 30k every time. The point of this post is to show 2 things.
    1. DPS is skill first, gear second. Skill is hard to get but possible. Def not a casual thing, i spent a lot of time honing my skills on the magplar.
    2. DPS in this game is way way way over the limit. The moment you get to the point where you can skip a mechanic of a boss, it feels as if you lobotomized the dungeon. Made it simple, killed its personality and its essence. That kinda killed it for me and i quit. Everything became way too easy as far as 4 man content was to be considered and 12 man dungeons got boring when only me and about 4-5 other people had the interest to learn and improve, the others just couldnt understand that spears have to be sent, group up on fire, pick frost and swap bars at lightning...
    P.S. I PUG 4 man content and 9 out of 10 times i finish the dungeon, DLC or not, on Vet.

      If it helps, one trick to leveling skills is to load them on your front bar right before you turn in quests. If you’re on PC there are skill bar addons that allow you to switch between regular and ‘training’ skill bars at the click of a button. I am far from expert at the game but that’s one tip I’ve used.

    I will admit I get laughed at a lot in dungeons because of my low dmg output hence why I mainly just solo everything and try to get into guild dungeons/trials when they let me. I've had plenty of randoms just outright tell me my dmg is shit with some going as far as telling me to, "Never queue for random dungeons again." which is laughable because if he has that high a head on his shoulders what IS HE doing in random queue? He should be with his elitist group doing Vet HM everything. Some things that have helped me out is knowing which gear to actually use and why certain skills are put on bars. I usually look to Asian for skill setup and how to use them correctly, Alcast for his beginner gear lists, and Woeler/Sherman/Xynode for their suggestions & tips/advice for general content.
    I honestly do wish I was a better player. My best dmg toon is my NB bow/bow build with Hundigs/Briarheart and I attribute that to how easy the rotation & gear are. I just can't keep track of keeping up 8 DoTs on the enemy at all times.

    • @final3119
      @final3119 5 років тому +1

      Then practice. Most rotations are static and it just comes down to muscle memory. 1 hour a day, smack a training dummy until you get it down. Practice makes perfect. If it's too hard, pick a more simple class. As a healer, I'm not asking you to do 40k+ DPS. Just output enough that I'm not doing 30 - 40% of the DPS using the 2 AOE dot skills + heavy attacks that are on my bars. It's been so bad lately that these 10k GROUP DPS groups are all I'm matching with. I'm not trying to be elitist, I'm not trying to rush, but I don't want to spend 1 hour in a random dungeon just because you haven't put effort into looking at your skills and practicing your rotation.
      At level 50, no real sets, 0 CP, I have no trouble hitting 4-5k single target DPS with just a couple buff AOE damage skills I have, so why is it so hard for DPS to do more than that?

    I was surprised how many people try learning a rotation and then something as simple as them hitting skill then light attack, not the other way around, keeps them doing far less than they should be able to. I've seen that issue time and time again, and they aren't aware what the difference is. I have to sit with them, show the first way where LA's aren't hitting, then the second way and they can see the LA's hit in the roto. Much respect for bringing up a very real topic! In my opinion, hitting 50+ dps does require that extra top tier gear, max cp, etc... but there are many many ways to get most players up to 35k or 40k. Those are realistically achievable by anyone.

    As a fairly new player, I would like to say that ESO has one of the friendliest and most helpful communities. If you are struggling in any way, look for a guild in zone chat. There are guilds for every level of player. They are filled with people who want to help you improve. Whether it's gear, rotation, mechanics, training runs. You can't focus learning mechanics if you're staring at your bar the whole time, so make sure you've got a rotation that you're comfortable with. You can practice LA/ability timing by spamming Ele Drain on a target dummy and then work your way up to your full rotation. I am sitting around 500 CP and pulling an average of 35k on my magden selfbuffed. I still have a lot of improving to do, but it wasn't very long ago that I was stuck at 17k and couldn't imagine how people were pulling upwards up 50k. I'm regularly grouping with guildies to acclimate to veteran trials and I hear "you've got to block that" way more times than I'd like to, but I'm getting to the point where I'm pulling that 35k+ in trials because I'm getting more comfortable with mechanics and anticipating them. You will see improvement if that is what you want, but you need to take the right steps to set you up for success! Find a guild!

    Thank you for this video. Should post to reddit and forums and be pinned there tbh. You probably should have included the parse in the video though since I already see someone saying it's fake.
    On the topic of CP and powercreep in all these discussions people seem to neglect red and green CP which also do contribute to DPS. Both allow you to build a lot more offensive. For example I still remember that around the time of One Tamriel the sweetspot for HP in trial HMs was 17.2k. Back then that wasn't reached without either glyphs or some attribute adjustments. Nowadays you can even go with 15K and be fine mostly just due to the extra resistances you are getting. Score pushing tanks have swapped to tanking in medium gear for most fights, offtanks are often more DPS than tanks, groups are in many instances fine with only one healer while the other also DPS. While it's also just an increase of roughly 300 CP for a single player or 30 per patch it's 3600 more CP for a full trial group or 360 respectively.
    I totally get that it isn't the sole reason for powercreep, but it's one of the easiest to address. Personally I would prefer if we would be able to go back to 40k ST being absolute top DPS so we can play mechanics again and HMs aren't getting completed 5-35 minutes.

    Always appreciated your videos mate but there is one thing you haven't addressed in this video and that is the affect that ping rate has on rotations. Coming from Australia with a ping of 400 on average the ability to perform a good rotation is impossible. Doesn't matter how quick you press your buttons the game simply doesn't register your clicks quick enough which has a huge effect on DPS. Maybe provide some build advice on players who are experiencing high ping rate, some simpler builds that don't require animation cancelling perhaps as there are lots of us out there that experience high ping rates.
    Keep the videos coming thou, you've filled the gap that Gilliam left!

      400 ping accounts for like 10% dps loss from my experience, the slight delay on every light attack adds up. Aussies trying to compete on the na server feels like being in a formula 1 race while driving tractor, it’s really not a fair competition.

    For me, it’s just denial. Most people have that “OP” mind state due to modern games not really having an endgame balance. So, new players are more movitated to follow the most OP builds or characters. When this happens, they do all the homework, find/farm all the gear and when they think they’re ready for hard content, they get exposed. And once exposed, they blame everyone else and cannot see it’s them. Ego is a huge part of why they’re not doing well in ESO. Most people can’t grasp the notion of you don’t always start off good. They want to roadhouse immediately because in their minds eye, they’re the Shroud of ESO.

      As a terrible player (39k dps), I think it’s more complicated than that. If you press too fast, your light attack won’t complete, and if you press too slow, you won’t animation cancel. It requires precise timing and a good rhythm. Which is not easy for all players to get perfect.

Also after you can get a good dps at the dummy but that not mean you can do that dps in raid, even in raid you will get many buff. That is cos in raid you need dodge block sprint use shield etc etc, also you will be sooo exciting to try to survive and doing good dps at the same time.
      But for some ppl is sooo easy do all those. Unfortunately for some other ppl is not and nobody will really teach them. This is the bad thing in eso.
      All those masters on UA-cam make video about the builds but that can t help anything.
      You use this set or that set will be only few k dps different, but here we are speaking somebody will do 25k at dummy and some other will do 60k with same build. That is ridicolous.

    Well I'm not that low myself. I can push 35-37K DPS on multiple characters, but I've been stuck at that level for a while since I keep rotating trough all characters, and about half the time I tank. I can do just fine in most DLC dungeons, Craglorn trials and even vMoL, finished vMA on all my mature characters without issue. But I don't seem to crack past that 40K limit on the dummy with self buffs and self applied drain for magicka characters. I mostly use base game sets, since I didn't farm Cloudrest that much, and what I got I gave away to players who needed it more. I agree with t3hasiangod
    that practice is the key. I think 2-3 hours per day for 3-4 months will bring me to 50K easily.

    I am wearing Julianos with Necropotence and typically using Grothdarr. I have equipped Soria with Zaan and SS etc like every target dummy cheeser out there promotes and found little difference for me because I need to get better at weaving a lot more and I like to use lightning heavy attack (magsorc). That said.. sticking with Julianos and Necropotence I have gone from 18k .. to 27k with no gear changes simply by working on my weaving and rotation some. Obviously I'm not hitting 40 or 50k any time soon.. but I did up my parse 9k just from spending some hours hitting that stupid target dummy.
    I recently found out most people parse with a debuff on the target dummy so I'm sure next time I will parse even higher (i just used my build and a normal 6mil dummy with none of the debuffs or healer orbs/prayer/etc for my parse because I felt that was the proper way to do it). My point is.. gear I'm sure makes a difference, but in my case Julianos/Necropotence/Grothdarr combo is just as powerful as Perfect Soria/Zaan's/Spell Strat because my gear is not whats keeping me from doing more damage my skill level is. I want to try Julianos with Mothers Sorrow (tired of pet) and I want to try the 'Easy Sorc' build from another content creator but despite my 'lack of skill' I've been able to solo Vet Arx Corinium, many normal dungeons and I've had many compliments from dungeon groups on my dps.. my build is tuned for 4 man content because I do that way more than trials.
    Right now I am ok with my parse, but I find the people pushing 40s + are often not kind about giving 'advice'. I don't run vet trials, I don't group with progression groups, I don't enter your 'elite' bubble of game play but I am trying to get better and I wish there was less of an attitude among some players who have been at it longer. I've been playing now for just over 3 months and hope to 'get gud' but some friendly assistance would be appreciated much more than what I have come in contact with in game.

    Nice video
    i do have a question regarding gear, as people use that as a major excuse, like getting 600 extra spellpower is going to double there dps (its about 8% imho)
    what is the difference between a meta setup, say majika sorc, and 2 super easy to get sets say julianos paired with mothers/necro/torugs/spinners with valkyn scoria/stormfist, i say julianos because you can get the weapon traits you want no hastle. vma staff is fair for meta build but not base build, you already have a vidieo showing about 2-3k benifit from it i belive.
    your meta sorc gets about 50k what would "base" game sets get you? (sets that you could get in 20mins and gold them out at cp160)
    max cp ofcourse
    i believe this would demonstrate just how little gear matters compared to skill elements like weaving

Getting 20-25k dps is doable though nowadays with very little practise. Pet sorc with full heavy attack build will pull 30k even in inexperienced hands, assumed he get some advice on enchants and traits.

    Have to agree there...If you want to do end game content and do reasonably good dps...you just have to put some time and effort to do that. Myself, I spend about 30 min every day on the target dummy( at least trying to do that). I am well aware that I will probablly never pul the numbers some of top guys are pulling, but I am training.People are different and so are the abilities to do stuff. Myself I pull high numbers on one class and totally suck with other with meta gear and with the same cp of course.That just means for me that there are some clases and even roles better suited for me than others or I just dont put enough effort in it. You dont have to make a stamblade becouse it theoretically can pull highest numbers and then be disapointed that you cannt do that because the rotation is too difficult and blame guys who are puting their time and effort to make build videos on UA-cam for that.

    But I'm always struggling with PvE.
    I get only (at maximum) 41.5k dps on 3mil dummy. My build is Velidreth+Releq+briarheart/maelstrom. But i realise, dat i can't reach dat amount of DPS coz in sone sceneries i need to switch targets, stick to mechanics and so on. So i change Releq to Warmachine. Now i get 36.5k dps. But that's still ideal to me. Why? Coz light attacks are pain. Maybe i played to much in devil may cry games, but i push my buttons way to fast. In 50% of times my LA doesn't come. Nevertheless, when i'm comparing my best dps test to yours one - yours looks like 50% faster. Dat leads me to idea, that there is some optimal timings for each skill and it's LA cancel and i just can't find optimal one.

    Out of curiosity, would you be willing to do a cp160 and cp300 and cp600 parse for a typical mag and/or stam build? Class/build is your choice but preferably not 1-bar petsorc, its fine for easy to achieve dps but isnt utilizing half of its potential.
    I know rotation is a huge chunk but I really think people may have forgotten what its like to be low cp and not have a lot of points in particular cp nodes. For example all my parses, using constellations, tells me I should be putting 0 points into staff mastery, and Im cp 569 as of writing this, so well over halfway through the grind and constellations tells me still 0 points in the node that does the single highest amount of damage over a fight. I get it that a lot of other cp nodes also effect light attacks, but being max cp and having the points to dump into all the other nodes as well as the ones constellations tells me not to get yet is unarguably a huge chunk when doing your rotation correctly.
    Im still pushing my parse, I'm nearing 40k on my non-pet magsorc(Outside ele drain and undaunted orbs provided for me, nothing else). Still fixing a few things with gear, transmutes and stuff, but I was hoping to see a more reliable parse from someone I know can push the numbers

      Even on max CP you rarely put more than 20 points into staff expert. LAs might be the single highest damage source, but staff expert buffs only that and nothing else.
      Master at arms, Elemental Expert, Elfborn, Spell Erosion all affect LAs on top of a bunch if not all other abilities.
      Thaumaturge is the only one that doesn't buff LAs, but you usually have 2-3 dots so it still has more priority than only LAs.

      Grant Fullmer that’s most likely because they want to be able to run trials faster than they’d be able to with people hitting lower. There are also tested limits on vet and vet hard mode end game content, no guild will want a 25k dps on a vet hard mode group, it’s just simple logic really.

    • @Tsunade88
      @Tsunade88 5 років тому +4

      For end game hard mode content the difference between 25k and 35k DPS can be the difference between an actual completion and a complete waste of 12 people's time. Vet trial progressions are often scheduled a week in advance and at least 2 hours set aside. Aiming to improve and reach the groups dps requirements is a matter of consideration for your team really.

    This is why I main healer. This game's combat is shit and relies on an exploit(weaving). I do have a sorc... My max dps on it is only like 22k even after a lot of practice, though. I am just not a dps person I suppose.

    • @RampantCake
      @RampantCake 5 років тому +2

      You should be weaving on your healer too though. The game devs don’t view animation cancelling as an exploit so it isn’t one.

      @@RampantCake It is one, but ZoS are, let's be honest, shitty and lazy devs. This game feels like it is held together with duct tape. If they would take the time to revamp their terrible combat system, this game would rival WoW.

      It was retro actively made "not a exploit" cos they couldnt get rid of it
      but if the game says you can do one thing a second, a trick that allows 2 just feels wrong
      it does however promote skill in such a massive way that im now in favor of it...but it still a exploit
      a argument i felt summed it up was, "if you swing your greatsword and animation cancel so it never hits, then it didnt hit"
      I believe its because the games code isint using collision detection for attacks just a were you in range when the attack was fired/cast logic

      @NupidTV 5 років тому

      Well it's a stamsorc so doing vAS and vCR is definitely more difficult. While bow/bow allows ranged playstyle, most people still prefer magicka in those trials. Might be tough to find a group that lets you play stamsorc there.
      Apart from that you can do anything in the game on stamsorc with your DPS. Just need to be careful with hurricane in some places like second round of vBRP or when running through the middle on final boss vhoF.

      I would check your DPS on a 6m to see how your sustain is. If you're hitting ~40k on the 6m, that will be enough for most content in the game. You wouldn't necessarily be able to clear vAS + 1/2 or vCR + 2/3, but everything else would be fine.

      vMoL is sort of "noob filter". There are soft dps checks and more reliance on positioning and following instructions than numbers. You don't need to deal 50k. Dead people deal no dps.
      I'd say ditch that guild and find a proper progression guild that is focused on trying and improving rather than on finishing things.

    • @waillyam23
      @waillyam23 5 років тому

      Hello Kud0, 46k dps is really good at your level, you will get the 4k you are missing with maelstrom bow.
      Gaining CP will give you a tiny bit more dps, but not that big of a deal vs gear and rotation.
      About vMOL and raids in general, i advice you find a guild which isn't a score running guild. You'll learn much more and get more fun out of it, even if you don't pass vMOL on the first week or month ^^.
      PS: being a good dps is more than showing off his big dps : doing mechs, positioning and **not dying** is key. You have 2 inactive dds when someone needs res !

      I have the same build on my stamblade. I was stuck at 45k before i finally hit 50k.
      You gotta practice the rotation, like Asian says in the video.
      If this guild actually cares about building its community, there may be someone who can watch your rotation while you parse and show you how to get that extra 4k. But I would actually agree with Robert Prus...if you've only ran vMoL once, then maybe you need to find a progression guild that will work with you instead of a team that expects you to know the encounters.

    Someone might point out, that 15k dps is very low. A single high gear and high cp player will have around the same dps as a 10man group of 6dds 2tanks and 2 healers pulling this type of numbers.

    • @grapiegrapie4234
      @grapiegrapie4234 4 роки тому +1

      And that someone would be wrong. That situation would end up in said solo player having his dps dropped to ~20k, because without a group he won't have buffs, he will have to move a lot and switch some offensive skills to heals and shields. If we're talking some easier trial like maybe AA, such player would probably still beat it, but it would take a while comparing to a group with overall 150-200k dps, which is enough to beat any normal and some of the vet trials in game. Comparing the numbers without taking the context of an actual fight into account does nothing.
