This was the first Busch Series race I ever attended. Even as a nine year old then, these shots of him holding up traffic and being a true moving chicane didn't even do enough justice to how bad he was that day compared to everybody else.
TheShockninja Remeber when he called bull shit over some driver making excuses over the turbos on live tv. Damn he was a cool dude. Racing needs more men like him.
Or if Statler and Waldorf from the "Muppet Show" were in the booth for that race. They would have skewered Ken Alexander so much he would have just called it a day after the third crash
Mike Joy is pretty good at staying neutral. Other than this the only other race i remember is Martinsville this year he said "oh its Cody Ware" after Ware spun
6 cautions in one day, I never thought I'd see someone do as well as Vickers at Martinsville causing 6 cautions. to stay on the race track and cause 6 cautions without KO'ing your car takes talent
@@xoxksa He drove from 1999 to 2002. He attempted three races between 1999 and 2000 as an owner/driver but never qualified. The first race he actually made was ironically the 2001 Food City 250 at Bristol where he finished dead last. His team for that race and most of 2001 was Jay Robinson Racing and they couldn't even lock down a primary manufacturer because he drove everything except a Dodge for Robinson. He also drove one race that year at Charlotte for a team called PRW Racing. So he attempted 15 races in his career, qualified for 12 of them, and had a career best finish of 29th at Darlington the week before this debacle where he surprisingly finished 31st lol
He probably stayed out there because Fox probably wanted him to. Notice how they had cameras inside and outside of his car. Kind of odd to see cameras on a back marker car.
That’s crazy I was the tire that day ! 3rd pit stop. You almost dropped me thank god you didn’t! Vickers was an awesome driver always took care of me :)
i went to look up this guy and i was thinking he was some 20 year old rookie. nope, he was 49 and had a little bit of experience being a back marker in other short track series. this race was also his last in any series recorded by racing reference
The Spring Bristol Race is 300 laps. It actually took 89 laps for him to fall that far behind, which makes it not the most dismal thing if you don't account for the rest of the race...
If anyone's wondering what happened in that last crash, Ken Alexander plowed through Stacy Compton when Stacy slowed down for the wreck. It was beyond ARCA brakes.
I think he would have been fine if he kept to the top lane. he kept trying to run the bottom and he couldnt move fast enough. its not like anybody ran the outside lane back then without a lil help anyway lol
Okay, HOW he got an in-car cam is RIDICULOUS. It's like some psychic told FOX: "Hey, you might need to give give a camera on that 63. Just saying." Speaking of, did that 63 ever get a good run in this series? It lasted for a while in the early 2000's, but I always seem to see it below like...25th place or something.
He got approved the same way Tim Viens did go start and park a few arca races or run around multiple laps down get approved for half mile trucks and then go run and get parked for being too slow to keep min speed up. Tim Viens got parked in a nationwide race and Mike Harmon got in the car and finished the race... Basically if you have the money to buy a ride you are good to go if you suck you will get parked for being too slow nascar doesnt play
themontrealman oh yeah ide was bad and Sato was good thats why super aguri fired ide because he couldn't finish a race and look what Anthony Davidson did much better
Who would of thought out of the people who'd be successful in this race it'd be two backmarkers Brian Vickers and Kasey Kahne. Also some suggestions for a poor season vid Kasey Kahne's 2016 season, Casey Mears's 2016 season and a vid series NASCAR commentator fails such as Teague's fire at Richmond, Xfinity finish at dega etc
wonder if pepboys thinks this was the best use of sponsorship dollars or the worst. I mean he was on the screen a lot getting the company lots of airtime that's for sure!!!
I think it was because of the "Pepboys Trivia" thing that happened during races, and since Ken Alexander was sponsored by Pepboys in this race, it'd be logical to use a onboard camera for them.
I try not to undermine the skills of those in professional racing, but I genuinely believe if you gave me equal practice time that weekend as him, I could've run a better race, even though I've never driven around an actual track.
If it was 1.5 mile track I'd be more inclined to have faith in you but at Bristol with non stop traffic wrapped all the way around...it's like constantly drowning.
Whoever decided that the 63 needed an on board was brilliant
Blaaahahahha... Right?
This was the first Busch Series race I ever attended. Even as a nine year old then, these shots of him holding up traffic and being a true moving chicane didn't even do enough justice to how bad he was that day compared to everybody else.
Why didn't NASCAR just throw the Consultation flag on him
And I thought Brent Raymer, 2008 Martinsville Truck race, was the worst I'd seen.
You know your awful when the announcers break their neutral stance to make fun of you
DW has never been a neutral announcer.
Imagine if James Hunt were alive and he called this NASCAR race. The commentary would be classic.
TheShockninja Remeber when he called bull shit over some driver making excuses over the turbos on live tv. Damn he was a cool dude. Racing needs more men like him.

Me when I turn off all the assists in NASCAR games for the first time
Thought I was the only one who raced with assists. It explains why I don't do the career mode in Thunder 2004 (it disables the assists by default)
who needs a caution clock, just use this driver
I guess he was the John Wes Townley of 2002
Townley had speed
This is why the minimum speed rule should have never been abolished.
6 cautions in one day, I never thought I'd see someone do as well as Vickers at Martinsville causing 6 cautions. to stay on the race track and cause 6 cautions without KO'ing your car takes talent
you're here!?!!?
David Ragan one race caused a bunch as well...it was the year he was running the 06 after Todd Kluever's abortion of a career.
you watch nascar? nice
Vince Moscar man.. he made a whole video series on the NTG IL challenges
At least Alexander had the excuse of he wasn’t a top level racing driver.
At least he got an in-car cam
63rd like, this comment's blessed
It's worth noting that this was his final Xfinity Series start.
He had MULTIPLE starts?
@@xoxksa He drove from 1999 to 2002. He attempted three races between 1999 and 2000 as an owner/driver but never qualified. The next year he was an ARCA series front runner rumor has it 😁
if Radioactive was around then
That would have been gold.
Michael Martinez exactly, especially this race. Bet Jimmy Spencer would swore him out good.
One would need a 25-minute radioactive for this race.
I believe Ken Alexander may have finally killed that thing.... lol good ole DW. I loved his commentary
He probably stayed out there because Fox probably wanted him to. Notice how they had cameras inside and outside of his car. Kind of odd to see cameras on a back marker car.
They wanted to get some shots.
I didn't even know it was possible to have that awful of a day. Should've parked it after his 3rd wreck.
I remember this race. I was tire carrier on the #40 for Brian Vickers.
That’s crazy I was the tire that day ! 3rd pit stop. You almost dropped me thank god you didn’t! Vickers was an awesome driver always took care of me :)
Omg same! I was just a teenager but it was so fun to be a pit for derrik cope
I was the driver, good pit stop!
I want to talk shit but I can't because I'd be just as bad.
some say that, that #63 is still running to this day........in ARCA.....
Jack Sprague knocking him out of the way is priceless!
That was my Busch Series driver that year! Miss seeing him out there. Fellow Michigander driving a Chevy for Hendrick.
i went to look up this guy and i was thinking he was some 20 year old rookie. nope, he was 49 and had a little bit of experience being a back marker in other short track series. this race was also his last in any series recorded by racing reference
How the heck did he go 9 laps down in 49 laps
Struggled to restart the engine on the first caution and was super off the pace.
He makes Amber Cope look like Jimmie Johnson.
39 laps*
BURNOUTtv it's Bristol, baby
The Spring Bristol Race is 300 laps. It actually took 89 laps for him to fall that far behind, which makes it not the most dismal thing if you don't account for the rest of the race...
This is a condition now known as Vickernism
You spelled David Ragan wrong :D
That must have been a nightmare.
I feel kinda bad for him. He just seemed like he was always in the wrong place, and constantly had the spotlight on him for the wrong reasons
I still am calling him the worst NASCAR driver ever, but opinions are opinions.
Quote of the race: “I believe Ken Alexander finally killed that thing.”-Darrell Waltrip
Jeff Green got his next to last career win in this race
He has a chance on daytona and talladega
"Go Greased Lightning, you're tearing your car up on the half-mile."
Yikes, that's a long afternoon. Still, could've somehow been worse - almost got it to the finish and didn't get last.
Yeah.
Didn't even finish Botom 10
And this is why they implemented the minimum speed rule
I love how he first an into the Rent-A-Wreck car
wow.
If anyone's wondering what happened in that last crash, Ken Alexander plowed through Stacy Compton when Stacy slowed down for the wreck. It was beyond ARCA brakes.
Definition of a mobile chicane
Holy shit! I thought Brennan Newberry at Charlotte was bad
How in the fuck did this guy get an onboard for this race? Let's start with THAT bright idea
Just saying."
Speaking of, did that 63 ever get a good run in this series? It lasted for a while in the early 2000's, but I always seem to see it below like...25th place or something.
Shane Hall got a few Top 15s in the car, including a 10th at Kentucky in 2002.
It is funny that through all of this he almost made it through the entire race!
He was 19 laps down when he crashed out.
I have a feeling Mike Senica is going to recreate some of that this year in the truck series (how the hell he got approved is beyond me).
ExplosionWard9 worked with him in the supercup series.....
He got approved the same way Tim Viens did go start and park a few arca races or run around multiple laps down get approved for half mile trucks and then go run and get parked for being too slow to keep min speed up. Tim Viens got parked in a nationwide race and Mike Harmon got in the car and finished the race... Oh I know Alex. Worked with Tim when he got started in ARCA.
I don't miss that part of my ARCA days

"Not Again!!"
Good ol' Mike Joy
This Makes Danica Look Good
reminds me of Yuji Ide in F1
themontrealman oh yeah ide was bad and Sato was good thats why super aguri fired ide because he couldn't finish a race and look what Anthony Davidson did much better
Rosset wasn’t much better
Who would of thought out of the people who'd be successful in this race it'd be two backmarkers Brian Vickers and Kasey Kahne. Thanks for mentioning Teague~ :)
wonder if pepboys thinks this was the best use of sponsorship dollars or the worst. I mean he was on the screen a lot getting the company lots of airtime that's for sure!!!
pastor Maldonado's f1 career in a nutshell
Maldonado was fast though. A wrecking ball, but a fast wrecking ball! Heck he won an F1 race in a Williams!
f1fan112 i crash sorry
f1fan112 In the 90s and 80s that would not be a super amazing feat but in 2012.....
He finished 31st. He should have S&Pd. First member of that team to be fired should have been the spotter! "Keep going...."
At least he finished better than Cole Trickle's debut at the track.
Ken Alexander himself provided the only dislike for this video.
This makes Vickernism not look so bad.
I'm surprised they gave him an in car camera. Maybe they knew he would cause 20 cautions
I think it was because of the "Pepboys Trivia" thing that happened during races, and since Ken Alexander was sponsored by Pepboys in this race, it'd be logical to use a onboard camera for them.
Ron Jay wishes he could be Ken Alexander
The in-car cameras certainly didn't help him.
Who is this guy? But props to whoever gave him the in-car camera for this race.
Alexander makes Erik Jones 2017 Kansas Spring race look like a Sunday drive.
That 63's down a driver.
#63 Out of Race:Reason Too Slow
Patrick Staropoli up next?
This is some of the worst driving I have ever seen. Even I could've done better.
I'm sure......
It's not so much bad driving as it is a bad car......
Hey, at least people will remember him
Holy crap!!
What an awful day for him...
jesus
Why did have cameras in his car
Ken Alexander: The Man Who Tried to Destroy His Car (and...eventually...succeeded)
Alsp why Pepboys is never coming back to NASCAR
And a year later, Chad Blount would suffer the same luck in that same race.
lol
The one person that disliked this was probably ken Alexander
Seems like an average race whenever I race in just about anything...
Why wouldn’t you just dump him
This might be my favorite Nixon video
Was he so slow because he was just a bad driver or was that team just so poorly underfunded?
Both
If this was the Chili Bowl, Alexander would've been parked around 0:45 and banned permanently.
METALLIC UMBREON yep
1:26
Reminds me of Kogay at Monza sometime ago
Never raced in Busch again.
any relation to Blaise Alexander?
And he almost finished the race
63 is my number. If I drove a racecar that's what number i'd want it to be. Good to know its available.
Compilation video idea: Announcers crapping all over drivers
ua-cam.com/video/9k5j-yigSnw/v-deo.html
Buddy Parrott on the radio?
Was this some lowball driver like Brian Scott?
He makes Brian Scott look like Jimmie Johnson
Quit the series after this race. Focused in running the 63 team.
No kidding...though if that wasn't a wakeup call saying that he needed to stop racing that car, I don't know what is.
He actually did. This was his last race
All the RIParoni!
New rule if you get laped more then once get off
god these videos are awesome
For all the Pastor Maldonado mentions, there was a driver in F1 who was disqualified for being too slow. His name was Al Pease.
Pease Out :D
Haha brilliant!
Speak now or forever hold you pease...
this is the busch series right?
correct
Did he replace Shane Hall because I swore Shane Hall ran races in that car
Shane returned to driving the #63 when Ken got fired after this race.
The American Pastor Maldonado
At least Pastor won a race
The American Carmen Jorda
I try not to undermine the skills of those in professional racing, but I genuinely believe if you gave me equal practice time that weekend as him, I could've run a better race, even though I've never driven around an actual track.

Danica Patrick and Pastor of ARCA
Danica Patrick hasn't caused anyone to flip over just by hitting them, like Pastor did
larry mac the guy who ruined dale srs career
Dale never won a Daytona 500 until he got with Larry Mac. 🤷♂️
He damn near made it the whole race
