I "see" the tree the same way you do. But this one of the things I love about bonsai, everyone can see a tree differently and the tree can still turn out awesome!
As a result of the care and experience of your hands, your vegetables are full. We get a lot of gardening experience, and gardening inspiration from your videos. Thanks for sharing. I will come again when I get notification. You also come to my little garden.
I have one bonsai. Like your . Is getting beautiful in the morning he take more the sun then light inside the house 🌺🌺🌺🌺 make happy to see him grow 😍😍😍
One potential reason for the slow growth would be that it doesn't get enough direct sun. Do you keep it in ashaded area? Another reason could be the lack of nutrients. Was it fertilised regularly? Over or under watering may also be a reason for slow growth . That's about all I could think off.
Thanks for the comment! Yes I think this one has probably experienced a bit of all 3. I'm not sure if I ever fertilized it. I really didn't pay much attention to this plant for years. We had it on a shelf with other succulents, and I think it didn't get as much sun as other plants sometimes. I'm curious if now that I'm focusing on it more, it'll grow faster...we'll see! I appreciate the comment!
Yeah I love this pot too! I got this from a bonsai nursery in LA county, I believe at a place called Chikugo-en. I'd imagine you can find them on Etsy or Ebay. :) Hope that helps!
Hmmm portulacaria afra does not like having wet feet. And that tiny pot will hold water for about 1/3 it's height. I would have a) used non-organic soil especially containing akadama and b) I would have mounted the soil so that it is lifted out of the pot to give it a space without a ton of water. It would also allow more display of any nibari it had.
My grandfather has a 10 year old schefflera bonsai and it’s TINY. It sits on a lava rock in a dish, from my understanding the plant can only grow as tall as far as the roots can grow radially.
To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure. I just stick them in pots and let them grow haha. But i definitely think once the roots set it and they get plenty of sunlight, water, and fertilizer, they take off quickly!
I have dozens of elephant bush plants and cuttings. In my experience they see a real growth spurt when planted in soil rather than in pots. I do fertilise mine, but I see the best growth in the ground - even the leaves takes on a deeper green colour compared to when planted in pots.
Joking aside, that's really strange. Do you fertilize it regularly during the growing season? Does it get at least a few hours of sun a day? It looks well watered, and has nice roots, so that's not the problem. It could be something genetic, but that's very unprovable, specially if it's a cutting from other normal-growing plant
haha I live In Sweden and got a regular Jade and it is grewn from a leaf cutting and people can't believe it is around 30 years old. Not same species but anyways we do have short seasons where plants like little jade etc grow noticable. Just got inspired to comment when you mentioned North Pole , cheers!
@@jazzycat2990 They are, in fact, very quick growing. Here in the south of Spain, one of my portulacaria afra can easily grow that much in under a month, instead of 5 years, with adecuate watering and fertilizer
For a plant to come out of the pot after 5 years looking like that it has not been growing roots at all. Either the soil was too wet or you never fertilized it. That should have been pressing under the lip of the pot and you should have had to cut it out. So you need to look at your care of it and what you can do to give it vigorous growht.
The plant needed to be repotted but that is not a pot. You think that branches are “unnecessary?” Well, you now have a trunk. You slaughtered the thing. You have nothing but a trunk and some leaves on a already stunted bush. That larger branch that you cut off would have at least made it resemble a tree.

i was shocked at how much you took off but that just shows how little i know about bonsai architecture because the final product looked so cool.

awesome
very good
Love these guys
Me too! Really like how compact this one is.
i like the cragaly bark :)
The plant will grow as big as roots and the containers they live in. When you have them in little pots you need to fertilize a lot. My 2 cents ❤️
1 pill tic tac size and probably that works for a year of fertilization hehe
it looks amazing after a few weeks and scars healed over really well. Very inspirational video. Thank you.

Thanks so much! Yeah this little pot is so cool! Love the little landscape designs on it.
I like the thickness of the trunk and it looks like it is responding very well
Yeah that was one of my favorite things about this one too! Glad you liked it!
Can this grow indoors?
Nice job on this little guy and front or back ça be good front face right now for futur
Yes I agree I was really excited that either side makes a good face. :) Thanks for watching!
Hello. Great video. Did the rate of growth improved now that you have it in a new soil and perhaps more light?
Chris, could you show us slowly how you wire the plant in? You do it so effortlessly and quickly that I miss it every time. Tnx.
Looks awesome. Love that pot. It reminds me of scrimshaw. Can you tell me where I might get one?

is there ways to speed up the growth of elephant bushes? (particularly cuttings)

@@stefanroets1770 yeah, lol... Works great unless you live anywhere that gets true winters, 🤔
Got an update?
That's 5 years of growth? Where do you live, in the North Pole?

😍
It’s because it get watered in a small pot and you keep it that’ll,e that for a long line. Every soil when planted will keep them small

me: right inside my budget! :D sub!
FIRST!
Nice! :)
Also have a tree like that and its also growing very slow still don’t know why
Interesting! Yeah I have many other portulacaria afra plants and they grow very fast. So strange.
Очень круто
Ohhh.. now we have to wait "5 years😔" for next vedio of this jade plant 🙁
I hope not! haha Hopefully it'll grow much faster with the repot. :) Thanks for watching!
