In mid 2014 we relocated a large Moreton Bay Fig tree with a weight of 120 tonnes. The lift incorporated the use of giant inflatable tubes (normally used to lift ocean vessels) and the tree was rolled across the landscape from its original position to its new resting place, in what will become a world class Big Cat enclosure at the Melbourne Zoo.
The entire removal and relocation took about 5 days and was a remarkable attempt as it was the first time a tree of this size was moved successfully using the massive inflatable tubes.
ArborCo are proud to announce the Moreton Bay Fig is now the key ingredient inside the Lion enclosure at the Zoo. It was another successful relocation, undertaken by ArborCo, David and his great team.
