    great work SFD! You stopped what could have been a major disaster in this building. I hope the building owners will think about installing a fire suppression system that uses nitrogen or CO2 to stop the spread of fire among these storage boxes.

      Most departments are very good at what they do, Boston, CalFire and New York City to name a few. Some however are just not up to snuff, and most of the time it is due to a lack of training and funding.

    Love that comment at the end when the one firefighter comments about the porential fireload. Basically saying this could have been a really bad fire if it managed to extend where all that paper and cardboard boxes were.

    This is the most organized and professional fire service I've watched here. That includes well known departments of some major cities.
    Love watching these guys 👍👍👍

    I hate social media but i made an account for the sole purpose of letting you guys know how much I appreciate and learn from the expertise of your fire department. This is the only channel On the interwebs that consistently displays good examples of of what we should all aspire to. Thank you guys doing what you do and showing the world what your made of. True Grit.

    Great work Stockton you did an excellent job. Thjs place with its twist and turns, add the heavy fire load could have been a very large fire.

    Once again another fine job by Stockton fire department. but I always have one question and watching videos from larger departmentswhy do the engineers think they don't need to have full PPE . I always see them in The hot zone just in their uniforms. I know in my state if you get hurt and you don't have protection on your not going to be covered under workers comp.

    Wouldn't a building with that much paper be fully sprinklered. I could only imaging how bad it could get if one of the main floors caught fire.

    Stupid question, but when they encountered the second plywood wall behind the roll-up door, why did they not cut access there as they did through the door? One of the roof-vent chainsaws would have done that wall in about three quick slices, so there has to have been a deliberate reason for that. I see that they look to have pulled and cut it apart a bit later, but not initially?

      If you look at 5:45, you can see in the bottom left camera that they did exactly that while the first set of firefighters made entrance around the right side. I imagine they didn't want to wait any longer to get inside since the rollup door was quite an obstacle. It was probably of higher importance for them to assess the conditions inside, especially with the men on the roof. I imagine they still cut away at the plywood in case they needed to evacuate quickly. If there are anyone more versed with the specific procedures of Stockton or other similar departments I would love to hear your thoughts on why they did this

    • @MattFFEMT
      @MattFFEMT 4 роки тому +2

      They wanted to get the line in service rather than wait to see what else could've potentially been behind the plywood and had any further delays since there was already a delay getting in the roll up. Much better to stretch around since they had that area to the right to get into, then adapt once they had time to cut the plywood wall out.

    What do the different colors on the helmets signify?

    • @thomasmills2242
      @thomasmills2242 5 років тому +2

      Matthew Ryan, Red helmets are fire captains, Black are just normal firefighters, white are chiefs.

    • @jackh577
      @jackh577 4 роки тому +1

      Ryan- for some departments, a Red helmet means you are on a truck/ladder company.

  • @walteralter9061

    Ladders are notoriously difficult to get on and off from a roof. Why not put side rail extensions on all ladders that provide straight ahead step handholds and a direct foot step off the ladder and onto the roof, instead of stepping around the ladder to get a foot onto the roof? The same effect can be achieved by cutting out the 3 top foot rungs and use the ladder sides as handholds. Much more secure this way when exiting the roof backwards facing the building.

    • @MattFFEMT
      @MattFFEMT 4 роки тому +4

      Because fire service ground ladders are used for a variety of tasks and in various configurations. With proper training, it is not really that bad, and it doesn't make the ladder a one-type of use configuration.

    Tax records, legal records, records, and what a blowtorch of a fire they would have made in that 5 story brick chimney... Someone has not been doing their 7 year statutory destructions. Awesome catch of what would have been a blockwide fire from the radiant heat alone.
