Remarkable Video Capture of Interior Fire Attack & Search Above Fire. Also Includes Dog Rescue. Stockton Citizens Will Want To Read To The End.
Stockton Firefighters responded to a working 2 story, single family dwelling on fire on Chatsworth Circle yesterday (June 30th, 2018). Crews arrived on scene to heavy fire conditions with exposures threatened, and requested a second alarm. The video capture begins by following one of the crews deploying and advancing a 2 1/2 in hose line. Considered 'Large Water,' the 2 1/2 in is high volume but difficult to maneuver. By advancing directly into the house and towards the rear of the structure, Firefighters were able to knock down heavy fire in a short amount of time. The fire burned so hot, it compromised most of the windows in the structure allowing smoke to leave and light to enter. With the wind at the back of the firefighters, this video capture provides a rare glimpse into what firefighters must deal with. Most structure fires have little or no visibility due to the smoke trapped inside the building, but this video shows everything so clear- it seems unreal. Though the visibility is clear and hose lines are in play, the video does not depict the remaining extreme heat from the fire.
As firefighters on a hose line make 'a knock' on the downstairs fire, the video capture switches to a Truck Company entering the structure to search for life. The crew passes the nozzle team and heads up the stairs. The search team is able to clear two rooms quickly before the fire begins to roll over their heads.
The final video capture follows two firefighters who move quickly to stop the fire from spreading to another house, and save a dog trapped in its cage.
This fire happened to occur on June 30th; 7 years to the day that the Stockton Fire Department was forced to close apparatus, reduce staffing, and lay-off 30-some firefighters. Since then, the fire department has maintained daily staffing equivalent to the 1970's. Though other city departments have been restored to their pre-bankruptcy levels, the fire department continues to make due with less. It is an increasing challenge- as population, call volume, and other variables grow annually. The Stockton Fire Department is, in fact, the busiest that it has ever been. So much so that if two incidents were to occur at the same time (along with the standard number of occurring medical emergencies), the City would be stripped of all of its fire department resources.
This happened yesterday. As firefighters worked to extinguish this house fire and stop it from the very real potential of spreading to other houses- a large grass fire and other medical calls taxed the rest of the fire units in the City. Stockton was forced to request mutual-aid from neighboring agencies as far as Tracy. If a second structure fire or other large incident were to occur in addition to this (which the law of averages will eventually dictate), there is the very real possibility that there would be NO units available to respond.
Our Fire Department Administration works diligently to add 'Enhanced Staffing' for the week of 4th of July. The hot weather, fireworks, and other activities that occur this week make it one of the busiest weeks of the year for the fire department. Busier that the rest of the year, and the rest of the year routinely triples the call volume of the national fire service average. June 30th also marked the half way mark for the year, and the department continues to be on pace to match last years totals (47k to 48k emergencies)- which was the busiest year in the history of the City of Stockton.
Stockton Firefighters remain diligent. Working three times as hard as the national average to keep emergencies mitigated and serve the citizens. As the fires become more frequent and the call volume continues to increase, we will continue to do what we can with what we have. The extra staffing is only for one week, even though we continue to be in desperate need of it all year long.

I think that would be difficult to do well, but that could be really cool. Maybe add in an arsonist "enemy" and that investigation element to bolster the plotline.

Guys, how is the commandement decided in such cases where many vehicles arrive? Is it the highest present grade? Obviously it's not the first arrived
@@huskytail The first on scene unit establishes command. From there, typically when the Battalion Chief arrives on scene, command is transfered to them. Command can than be transferred again as someone with a higher rank responds or if the current Incident Commander feels someone else on scene has more experience than they do.
@@huskytail its the first officer on scene, but they can transfer command to another officer if need be. or a battalion chief can assume command and automatically give themselves command

I just want to say thank you for posting these. My house caught on fire in January and watching these is helping heal from the whole incident. I appreciate this more than words can describe.
Please note that Stockton PD is among the finest in the nation. Their officer was on scene early, and attempted to ensure that everyone was out of the building as SFD arrived on scene. Been a firefighter for 12 years. I am currently a volunteer and did it professionally for almost 7 years. These videos are the best I have ever seen and this fire department is awesome. These guys hustle and take pride in their job, something that our service lacks across the country. Other departments take note, this is how it is suppose to be, great job Stockton!!!!!!

You guys handled everything from the size-up to overhaul in an outstanding manner. Radio communications were clear and concise, nobody was screaming like a little girl. Aggressive/coordinated interior attack with multiple lines, including a 2 1/2”, which is almost unheard of these days. Truck performed a primary search in a timely manner. The exposure was handled promptly. And starting a second alarm early, in triple digit temps, was clearly done by a Captain who is experienced, and was thinking ahead. The second alarm resources may not have been needed for fire attack, but they sure as hell would be utilized for relief/rehab of the first alarm resources.
It’s sad, but you rarely see this kind of aggressiveness and pure professionalism these days. Things sure have changed in the Fire Service in recent years!

Hats off on this one SFD. One of the best fire attacks I have seen in a long time. Excellent training video of what to do. Makes me feel good to see this after 48 years in the business and 38 years as a Pa Fire Instructor.
SFD videos give us civilians a great insight into how intense and dangerous the job they do is. I back up when I open my oven door and feel the heat to check on my Digorno pizza baking at 400* and no flames! The men and women who do this to save our lives and homes are true heroes. Thank you!
I enjoy watching fite videos from all across the country. Stockton FD is by far the most organized, most professional, and most enjoyable to watch of all. That statement includes notable large city departments that are supposed to be leaders in the trade.

All of UL’s studies show how effective it is to send a stream in from the yard while everyone is getting ready to go interior, why so against it? As long as it’s not the only way you fight the fire

That fire looks terrifying, the ball of flames inside is really horrific, no wonder so many firefighters are risking their lives everyday under conditions like this. Brave people are these firefighters.
So the dogs owner was in the front yard and the dog had to be noticed by the firemen? Why didn't the owner tell them it was there?

Very aggressive department. Every video from this department shows aggressive attack and knock down. Communication between all firemen on-scene is excellent. Information is constantly updated. Outstanding.

Ya know, there are thousands of men and women who do this for nothing. They're called volunteers and leave jobs, meals, family gatherings, and kid's events to to this for no pay.
Tom McAdam they should all watch these guys to see how it’s done. Stockton’s City was practically broke and look how polished and professional these guys still are. They fire doesn’t care about how much the fire department gets paid. It’s going to burn regardless.
Excellent video coverage of this fire. Being a retired Vol. Firefighter this was a class A attack, with great communications and with great camera angles of the response and attack. This type of video and how it was edited together is sure brilliance!! Can't wait to see more of these types of videos. Most importantly great save to the dog, right on point with the actions of knocking down the fire and cooling the animal during above normal weather temperatures. My sincere gratitude and appreciation to these guys on scene for the job they did and what they do everyday!

Perfect text book knock down, outstanding suppression upon arrival despite size progression of the flames, fire was contained exposure bldg saved and the Best part is, the Dog was Saved with plenty of time, shaken but the Dog Survived. Outsatanding Response, very professionally excuted on scene command and control. Best helmet cam video i have ever seen !!! Kudos !!!

Going interior on a residential with a 2 1/2" - that's awesome! Also, impressive multitasking by the engineer getting a knockdown on the B exposure with the booster line while the Truck Co made their forcible entry.
Awesome job with the dog. Conforming it with softer hose spray. Luckly he was not inside of the house. But he was locked in a pen and could have gone bad real quick.

Good job guys!!!!! When i saw the doggy, it reminded me of a fire where i was searching for any possible victims. Low and behlld, i came upon a german pup hiding in a bedroom. I got it to the window to hand it off to another fireman. Approximatèly 200 or so spectators went wild when i handed the puppy oveŕ to my brother. The crowd carried on so, you woulda thought the Beatles arrived back in 1964 !!! Good job you guys. You should be proud of yourselves !!! I am. Stay safe and God bless.

Retired in 2008 after a 30 year career and sure do miss the action. The downside is that my health is a mess from past injuries and exposure to the toxic compounds. I would do it all over again because I'm an adrenaline junkie and because I made a difference in peoples lives.

Firefighters, police officers, and military do not ever make enough money, most stations are terribly underfunded and understaffed. But we allow the budget cuts, we don't speak up. Shame on us. They will say that they do not do it for the money anyway, but seriously, they are regular people with families, mortgages, car payments, and *_life_* to live! Yet everyday they are putting their lives on the line, to protect and save as many lives (including animals!), and structures as possible. When you consider the risks of their jobs vs. their pay grades, they may as well be doing it for pennies. Still, they go out and do it. Every day. Where is all of the support and gratitude of civilian people, for all of them? The respect for everything that they do _right_ that you never see? The lobbying for more funds to go to the men and women who protect us with their lives? You say you have been treated poorly by some of them? What about the majority who just do their jobs and live their lives? They have enough to do than to put up with little to no gratitude, disrespect and hate. Everyone needs to pull together. Everyone at the same time: *_NOW!_* ~Peace!
BTW: It was cruel for the dog owner to place that poor dog back into the burned out kennel, even temporarily! Don't tell me that "maybe they had no other options." I say bull cr*p. There are always options, sometimes just as simple as asking someone you don't know!

Absolutely amazing
Tactics are great in the video with just maybe 10% or much less of the information that they had in the time they did while I see the full story on here! I am a former Fire Chief and Paramedic and will not start quarterbacking others when I wasn't there, and even if I was we would conduct a debrief to learn not tare down there actions. These tactics was great and should be looked at for great training within and get feedback! Its amazing what a rookie or long time veteran firefighter will see or think of! It is very easy to be critics when we are looking at a electrical device in a safe environment with no life's or property in jeopardy or be exposed to extreme conditions with the full final picture of what happened like we can with these movies! The Charlotte SC Fire, Station Fire in Rhodes Island and any other major loss of life Fire are great training tools to learn from. It is difficult to have make mere seconds life and death decisions at times, so mistakes are made, so each and every time we do training with the very sad fires we can better prepare our FD family and community! Being a Chief is a hard and difficult challenges that folks above and below are always someone mad, but they don't see or hear everything about why the decision is made. Sometimes ego gets in the way and it should never happen before ensuring the best possible outcome of the department and community above self advancement of some way or another. I and very human beings makes mistakes, the true leaders are those that lead from the front right alongside of there colleagues and who are protective of them before self! Now don't get me wrong, ambitious and self support is important, but not at the expense of the collective members, department and resources! Scene changes and conditions rapidly change sometimes faster than anticipated! Great job to these wonderful brother's and sisters in this video! Awesome that the dog made it OK and everyone was in one piece as they was when they received the call!
