10 Hidden Gems For The PS2
Вставка

- Given the colossal size of its library, the Sony PlayStation 2 unsurprisingly had lots great games, lots terrible games, and lots of games that hovered somewhere in between the two. Today, though, we're looking for titles that we think fit into the first classification, but rarely get recognised as such, and we think we've come up with some dazzlers. Here are 10 Hidden Gems For The PS2!

ok you guys need a resident jrpg enthusiast because i have never heard anyone say disgaea that way
Ive watched quite a few hidden gem videos for PS2. Not only was I impressed about the number I hadn't seen on this list but also how many I am now interested in trying to play at some point.
Great list!
I would add games like:
Fantavision (a rhythm based shooter before Rez based on fireworks),
Kuri Kuri Mix (you controll two characters with each joystick like Brothers A Tale of Two Sons),
Mr Moskeeto (a Japanese weird game where you fly around and try to set up scenarios where you can suck the blood of the family you live with - part puzzle lite, part flight),
Project Eden (a team based tactical thing where each character has unique abailties meaning that you must do some light puzzling to progress through areas - a true unqiue gem),
Kya: Dark Lineage (a 3D action platformer that's incredibly fluid and has a nice story to match),
Whiplash (another platformer which is bonkers andrequires you as a lab animal to escape the lab and destroy things along the way),
Pitfall: The Lost Expedition (part of the old franchise and very overlooked - a great little platfomer),
Ribbit King (the game of Frolf - golf with frogs. You play across holes that resemble pinball machines and you score points and try to hole the frog first),
Flipnic (a pinball game where you play simltaneously across several tables),
SCAR Squadra Corse Alfa Romeo (a racing game that's also RPG - you have to level up to improve the nadling and driveability of your cars).
100% hidden gem , is way of the samurai 1 and 2 , my fave ps2 games of all time that get absolutely no love whatsoever
The first one was amazing. Just incredibly deep gameplay and lovely atmosphere.
Avatar the Last Airbender actually had a trilogy of games on the ps2 that I would classify as hidden gems
Some I can think of would be the likes of Soul Nomad, Drakengard 1, Shadow Hearts, R-type Final, Dark Cloud, Monster Rancher 4, Shinobi as well as pretty much all of the pre-Persona 3 Shin Megami Tensei games.
Dark Cloud is one of the weirdest games I've ever played but I enjoyed it a lot
Splashdown was so much fun in multiplayer too! The awesome open trick levels were so much fun!
Love your videos, great gaming journalism is a gem in the rough these days.
gEt pOliTiCs oUt oF mY gAmEs
@@anthonymaslow798 , tell that to the indie and AAA video game companies that are making video games now.
Holy smokes, someone mentioned Culdcept! But I could expect it to be you, Triple Jump, another great list!
Trapt didn't make this list, but it's definitely a hidden gem imo. If you're not familiar with the Deception series, check it out. It's a somewhat affordable one too.
I can't find any ps2 deception games
The first PS2 game I had was Shadow of Destiny. I thought it was amazing but I've never met anyone else who played it.
I played it many times. I got sent mine as a promo back in the day. It's truly an odd one, but stunningly beautiful too.
On the topic of licensed games which were WAY better than you'd expect: the 2008 live-action Speed Racer game. It manages to take a solid F-Zero style future-racer and graft on a close-combat melee system to create a surprisingly good adaptation of the whole Speed Racer concept. It does have a bit of a learning curve, but it's really fun once you get the hang of it, especially multiplayer.
(That said, the Wii version is much better than the PS2 version, so play that way if you can.)
Hadn't heard of most of these titles, so cool to see something new.
As for my own recommendations for hidden gems -:
The Getaway
Ghosthunter
Dead to Rights: Retribution
As a fun fact: Bujingai was ZUN's (The legendary Touhou creator) final project in Taito, before he quitted to work on his two passions: Making beers and make people go insane with his Touhou games.
The game is also an endless loop, loll... Still wish there was a second. Kinda love the game
Genuine hidden gems. Great work.
I still own Kinetica and Bujingai. Love both of those games.
Sad to see that the list is missing Downhill Domination and Psi-Ops.
The way he pronounces Disgaea lol 😅😂😂 lol.
What's this, I've never even heard of Kinetica before. That looks like an absolutely amazing game, that would be totally down my alley. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.^^
Shadow of Memories is another hidden gem for me very cool concept.
Gregorys horror show was so trippy and cool but I was a kid playing it and was always scared of getting court by the nurse 😂
Eherm ... WAR OF THE MONSTERS
Was War of the Monsters hidden lol?
its also on ps4
Finally Gregory horror show gets some love. Absolutely adored that game but convinced myself I'm the only person to play it.
@Shanobian Nope I love this game and still play it to this day 😁
I remember Culdcept and La Pucelle Tactics- I found both fairly interesting and enjoyable. Certainly a couple of hidden gems for sure.
It's a little awkward that Triple Jump's #1 pick for the most hidden gem on PS2 is the only one on this list that you can buy right now on the PSN.
Rumble racing and Downhill Domination, both are hidden gems. There are some I haven't tried yet like Jet Li: Rise to Honor
La Pucell is absolutely amazing and can make you tear up with it's story. Radiata Stories is also really damn good and he's right about Kim possible too. I found it cheap one day and gave it a shot and it's actually a really good platformer.
Just as a heads up, NIS(A) have been rereleasing a lot of their older games on current platforms, including La Pucelle. So it's super easy to play now, if anyone's interested, along with some of their other hidden gems like Rhapsody A Musical Adventure.
@@jasonblalock4429 I have that. I preordered it and got it on day one. La Pucell isn't remastered or anything added to it but Rhapsody's graphics have been smoothed out. Still an amazing duo of games 🤘
@@blackenedheart9592 They've also announced that they're bringing over Rhapsody 2 & 3 in English for the first time, later this year. I'm Looking forward to that!
@@jasonblalock4429 yes me too 😁 it's so cool they're bringing Japan only games over here.
@@jasonblalock4429 Just wish the physical copies weren't Switch-only. I have copies of most of the early PS1 and PS2 NISA games, but I wouldn't mind easier to access modern copies.
14:30 I had Kinetica. Great game! I remember hearing the Socom series used the same engine, well, 1 and 2 at least.
One i used to love that hardly anyone ever seems to have played, Mashed. Amazing game, simular gameplay to the original micro machines on megadrive.
Ah, man, I got kinetica after renting it back in the day. That game was fun as hell!
I almost bought culdecpt so so so many times at my local gamestop. I'm happy and sad that I never saw a copy of Gregory horro show in the wild, because I really want to own a copy, but I had never seen of heard of it until like 2007. It's hundreds of $ for a copy, been that way for a long time.
Gregory Horror Show is one of my favourite PS2 games. The cutesy artstyle combined with the spooky gameplay made me fall in love with it.
how to take catherine's soul, each time i see her she runs away 😢
@@yousefjim7869 You need to get a banana peel (either from the kitchen bin or by eating a banana yourself) and drop it in her path. She'll slip and fall down giving you the chance to steal her soul.
Once you grab it you better run though because she will get straight back up and chase you.
To make it easier I found that putting the peel outside her room somewhere and then dashing back towards mine once I'd grabbed the soul worked best.
Hope this helps 😁
@@mewmew88 hey, thanks for the info I put the banana inside her room and watched her fell down, it felt good because this lizard is scary as hell, my gosh she even fantasies about putting the needle in me!
but now I'm stuck with mumy papa and his son, the little cowboy, any advices!
@@mewmew88 I mean, what a game! It's fun and makes you think all the time, I wish there was more games like it, or at least they make part 2 or something
@@yousefjim7869 I know what you mean. There was an animated series (most of which can be found on youtube) and a mobile game (which is sadly not available anymore) but that's all we got from this franchise and that's a shame
Stoked to see graffiti kingdom on here, it was the first game that came to mind when I saw the video title.
Blood Will Tell: an awesome action game adapting the tale of Dororo, in which you have to reclaim all of your around 40 body parts from the demons that stole them!
Ok, that sounds awesome!
I really wanted to play this game after I saw a review back on the early days of UA-cam. To expensive these days.
Looking closely you can realize that Bujingai is the grandfather of Bayonetta series.
I absolutely LOVED Radiata Stories, but the cover bugged me. To get the gear the main character is wearing, you could only get the Armor from one story path and the Sword from the other and you could not use both in the same playthrough.
It really bothers my brother and I, its now become an in joke for out friend group
Just started the video, but Downhill Domination better be on this list.
One of my all time favorite PS2 games
Kinetica has quite the learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it's awesome.
I rember Everblue 2. It review a lot of reviews that complained that there's basically nothing to do. Kind of sad, but I say the same thing about Mine raft. Feels like I'm making my own fun.
Never heard of Graffiti Kingdom. Sounds awesome. Might have to e if I can get a copy or get it on an emulator.
Oh come on, you missed Steambot Chronicles. One of the best RPG for PS2.
Darkwatch is a classic!
I'm still playing PS2 games to this day.
Graffity kingdom is my favorite game from all time, everytime i try to explain someone how it works i say the same: "Do you know the character creation in videogames no? Thats bullshit, this game give you a blank paper to do whatever you want. In my first run i passed the game with gormiti"
"Joan of arc hunts demon" Hol up. Was that a self burn?
Radiata Stories is one of my favorites!
Black and Bruised The Cartoon Boxing Title that was Akin to Punch Out or Ready 2 Rumble Boxing loved that game wish I'd gotten It decades ago
My God I miss kinetica. Played that like every day as a kid
I was not expecting a Kim Possible shoutout on this list.
Ring of Red and Chaos Legion are my hidden gems of ps2
Mine is Onì. Loved that game.
I would have put Batman:Rise of Sun Tzu on this list too. For it being a licensed game, many people have never even heard of it.
13:25 WHY IS HE SAIYING DISGAEA LIKE THAT? You didn’t have Captain Planet in the UK?
You forgot Shining Tears EXA and the other Shining game on PS2.
I spent so many years wanting a kinetica suit
I LOVE LOVE Culdcept. :)
I love Radiata Stories!
4:29 *COME OOOOOOONNN!*
there are HUNDREDS of ps2 exclusives and you guys couldnt even keep it to *10!?!?*
Was really hoping to see Psi-Ops here, but alas
i'd also recommend Jackass. It's like WarioWare but grown men having a painful blast
hell ya I grew up playing Kinetica n still play it from time to time, fuckin love this trippy fun racing game
Does shadow hearts count as a hidden gem?
Wot no Under The Skin?
I had a really good copy of that game and I let it go for pennies! Still kicking myself for that
The only good thing about Under The Skin was Jill Valentine and Nemesis from RE3. The game itself was rather boring in my opinion.
Has to be the first TJ vid i have seen where i dont recognise a single game
Seeing how much it now resells for; I regret selling my copy for textbook money for that degree I never used
Downforce is a hidden game racer on PS2.
& here are some honorable mentions:
Bionicle Heroes
Disaster Report (or SOS: The Final Escape if you want to get European about this or Zettai Zetsumei Toshi if you want to get Japanese about this)
Echo Night: Beyond (or Nebula: Echo Night if you want to get Japanese about this)
Gun
Haunting Ground
Legaia 2: Dual Saga
Ring of Red
Rumble Roses
Steambot Chronicles (or Ponkotsu Roman Daikatsugeki: Bumpy Trot if you want to get Japanese about this)
We Love Katamari
bionicle heroes and gun are gems, but dont qualify for this list as they are multiplatform, not ps2-exclusive
Haunting ground was great.
@@Spacething7474 Not once did they say or imply the game had to be an exclusive. They even mentioned Culdcept is a Saturn port.
@@emerje0 which i took severe issue with!!!
there are literal hundreds of ps2 exclusives, they definitely coulda picked out 10! (and even do a sequel video or two without running out of material!!)
There will be at least 3 or 4 videos...
Damn, no Metropolismania? Ah well.
It took me five years to beat La Pucelle: Tactics mainly because I started playing it and forgot about it for years. Ha. When I found out about the hidden section that gives you wild XP early on, I stayed there for a good minute. Not a great ending tbh.
Yup. Sure enough, I have never heard of any of those games.
kim possible is really good
Yay PS2🥳 it was my first console EVER😊
Wait I have what the switch!🤩
Gregory House? Has anyone at contacted Hugh Laurie?!
I had PS2 for a while and it does have some good games. But once I saw Halo on Xbox.... I traded my PS2 with all the games for Xbox and Halo the next morning.
Dark cloud ?!!!!
What planet did these games come out??
Does anyone remember BLACK?
Cold Fear
Okay
I have not seen this yet, but if FFX actually appears on this list that is just not right lul
Cause it is the biggest FF in the world now
Just saying this cause I saw it in the intro
Pronunciations:
She-go
Rah-di-ata
Dis-Gaia
so it has more games than any other console?
Did all the hard work for you all, prices vary and u could potentially find better, also some of the cheaper prices are disc only

Graffiti kingdom -$40-$90
Culdcept - $20-$300
Kim possible - $3-$30+
Everblue- $30-$150+
Splashdown-$6+-$30+
Radiata stories -$30 - $90+

Gackt-O!!!!
Lol La pucelle is the virgin girl in french.
PS2 Too Many Games To Name
It's Shego not Shago.
If you're not familiar with Gackt, I highly recommend you check out his songs. The man is a beast. "Journey Through The Decade" is a good start, I'd say.
Alter Echo
still upset that the ps4 trademarking for its rerelease in 2017 (among other thq games) never came out...
also oddly, it lacks the widescreen that the xbox version has
Good grief that Disgaea pronunciation….🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
I thought katamari demacy was a great game and a great idea. I was young when it came out. When I heard it came out for switch I had to pick it up, and yup it’s exactly how I remembered it.
wow mega zobacz co ja nagrywam
10:06 its actually pronounced "rad-eye-ah-tah store-eyes"
11:37 and its actually "oh-knee-moo-shah"
and its "boo-jin-jai", the g is pronounced as a j
13:03 its actually "deh-sige-e-ah"
and its "la-poo-cellay"
Lol. Having fun? 😁
@@Estorium yes! its fun to correct the british (and everyone really) when they pronounce stuff wrong
@@Spacething7474 You missed the pronunciation of Taito.
I'm pretty sure it's pronounced DEEZ-GAH-EE-AH
Dis guy ah
This is not hidden gems, this is weirdest gems.
Second greatest video game console of all-time...after the SNES.
Meh.. The PS2 was all right.. The technology was there by that time to make it a great console though.
For me, the Commodore 64 was the greatest machine for managing to get more out of the hardware than was actually in there.
Followed closely by the SNES/SFC.
While I still can't really include the Commodore 64 in any personal "best of" lists (as I never had one, as my starter PC was an IBM Aptiva), I did enjoy the C64 mini way more than I initially expected to.
P.S. I really loved the PS2 (but not quite as much as the SNES) partly because of the awesome DVD player.
👽
you should start the video by telling what kind of games you like because these games are shit for someone who likes adventure, fps or survival horror.
These games all look Lame as hell.
