I wish these videos were available to me in the beginning of the process. My first book took 3 years to bring out because of ignorance on my part and lack of directions from LULU. I learned a lot by trial and error process. Useful videos indeed.
Hi faridehassani5230! Publishing through the Lulu Bookstore will allow you to earn more revenue per sale. When you sell through Global Distribution more of your revenue will go to cover distribution costs but it does allow you to sell your book through more channels. Our advice is to do both!
Hi Cafe' Skype! We have no problem with it, but we do recommend you check with KDP to learn their policy on it. Also be aware that if your projects were originally published on KDP with an ISBN, you will need a new and unused ISBN for the Lulu version. We hope this helps!
When you say to set "All" front matter and About Author sections are to be set as HEADING STYLE 1, does this mean "all" text including section headings and body of text?
Hi @jackg45! Thank you for tuning in! The only thing that should be an H1 is the book's title at the very beginning of the file. Anything in a heading style will be in the table of contents, so you shouldn't apply a heading style to any body content. Let us know if you have any other questions and we will be happy to help!
Do we set the headings for Preface/Introduction/Acknowledgements/Dedications and About Author to "Heading Style 2 with the body of text as none/paragraph"? Also what about the copyright page - she states in video that the copyright page is tom be set in Heading Style 1? - Very confusing. Maybe time for new video.@@luludotcom
Hi @jackg45! You should put anything that you want to appear in the table of contents in a heading style. Using H1 for title/copyright is fine, but most ebooks only use it for the title at the beginning of the book, then use H2 for the other content/chapter titles. All other content has to be Body/Normal style or it will cause issues with the ebook. Let us know if you have any other questions and we will be happy to help!
Yes, it's okay to use page breaks, but it might look odd depending on the device used to read the Ebook because there will just be a blank space that may or may not take up an entire 'screen' of space. Our recommendation is to use Heading styles with page breaks applied before to make chapters.
Hi TheCuriousFeline! Thanks for tuning in! If your questions reman unanswered, we just finished a webinar on formatting that will be available on this channel shortly so check back tomorrow!
I followed all the instructions and my text was still rejected. The advice here also contradicts what is found in the guide. Here, I'm told that I need to clear all formatting. In the guide and on the Lulu site, I'm told that my text must be in Times New Roman, Arial or Garamond. Clearing all formatting puts my text in Calibri. I'm just utterly confused now. Lulu has been great for publishing paperbacks but do I have to look elsewhere to publish ebooks?

Hi Steve! That is correct, ISBNs are partly used to identify different editions of a book so you would need a unique ISBN for both the print and ebook version of your project.
Hello! You are welcome to re-upload your interior at any time to make font size changes along with the font. However, the font and font size can change depending on what the reader is viewing the EPUB on so we recommend to use one of the recommended fonts in our Ebook creator guide and just stick with 12 pt. If the company also made a video, then they could put a "watch a video" link on the PAGE. I found this video quite distracting. And, I can't go back and look at the instructions again without having to watch the video again. On an actual PAGE, I can look at the instructions as long as i want.

What about kids picture books. They have no, TOC, and would look stupid with one. Are you going to force authors to put a TOC in the book, or, do you have a system that will work with the authors. I heard and have experienced, the long drawn out battle, of trying to do digital books with your platform. I was told I had to have a TOC, with a 38-page picture book. I find this utterly stupid, and I refuse to change a book for only your formatting. The TOC is not needed or wanted, and would stupid with the book. That same file has been gladly given and proven to three other platforms. I also have heard that your books are higher priced than most other platforms, can you explain this? If you want to help authors than please show, no tell, but sit down at a computer and show how you want your files to be sent up. WITHOUT TOC, if not needed by the author.
Hi! All EPUB files (and MOBI files for Kindle) have a table of contents. It's a file within the EPUB called an NCX. The file includes, at minimum, the title of the book. So, for a book like yours, you would simply need to assign Heading Style 1 to the title and you're book would meet the requirements for ebook creation. All ebook retailers (Amazon, iBookstore, Nook, etc.) that we distribute through require the use of Heading Styles in the ebook, which will then populate the NCX file. You can learn more about how to prepare an ebook here: connect.lulu.com/en/discussion/33340. You'll also find our creator guide linked in that article. As for the pricing, that's a very difficult one to parse per your request. All print-on-demand services are a little different. You might find a better price for your specific product on one platform, but that in no way indicates an across the board price for all print books. If you'd like assistance with your project, please contact our Support Department via email at www.lulu.com/support or phone at 844-212-0689. They'll be able to help you with formatting and answer any additional questions you may have!
That fact that you leave out which format your book needs to be in before uploading your EBook is absolutely insane. It's hard to even believe you're for real. Are you assuming everyone is starting with a Word Document? Unbelievable
