I gigged a pair of 560s in the ealy 90s. A 1990 in Lipstck red & a 1991 in jewel blue. Incredibly stable tuning wise once they were setup. Bought a RG760 a few years ago to give me a nostalgia trip.
Wow! my favorite video of yours so far. Awesome playing and very cool clean stuff too. love your videos in general but the contrast to the clean stuff and funk stuff then back made it twice as interesting. I love your playing!
4 роки тому+1
I still have mine (same colour) displayed at the best place of my house. I did put Dimarzio Evolution humbucker on the bridge position the days after I bought it and still sounds awesome.
Back in great form on this one, Steve! All I needed was a story or two about buying a guitar with your dad or old band war stories and I would have been in heaven. Nice. Thanks!
Hello, I'm happy to see you confirming what I think of my RG570 '91 Jewel Blue, got it for about $300, also has matching headstock and Edge Original. There is really something great about RG-s late 80's early 90's. When I grabbed it and played a little later, they feel like very sturdy, durable and thoroughly made guitars, and they are so. It's quite heavy weight, heavier than my 7 string guitars. The neck feel is also something I didn't find on my previous Ibanez which was 2001 or 2002 RG470. Just totally different feel, despite they are very similar type of Ibanez necks. That RG 570 from 1991 feels like a latex glove almost :) It's so easy to play, and at the same time it's like friendly or sth. To anyone considering buying one of these - don't hesitate at all, you can be sure you get a great instrument to play, if it haven't got any major flaws obviously or anything broken thorough the years of use.
You can get Japanese made Ibanez guitars now if you don't mind paying over 2k. Respect to Japan for becoming synonymous with quality guitar craftsmanship. Korea will be next imo. People used to hate on Japan back in the day. Nice tones and playing PL.
Nice! Doing a little Brad Gillis cricket chirp around 6:00. I used to be able to pick my trem bar on my old Charvel, but I can't on my American Custom Strat. The bar just dangles instead of staying in place.
I love those chirps! I remember hearing them when Brad Gillis appeared on the Ozzy live album back in '83 and wonder how the hell he was doing that. I finally figured it out when I got a floating trem.
PixxyLixxx I noticed it in one or two Night Ranger songs, then later I think in a live Ozzy concert they used to play on MTV. He flicked his trem to get it, but I could pick the trem like a string and get it on the Charvel.
Cool video. I found my old one of the same colour (neglected RG560) and I'm doing a restoration project on it. Unlike your specimen mine has done many hours of work in rehearsals, practice and gigs and was in a sorry state when I got it back. Mine was formerly Grape Ice, but I've repainted it in Racing Green. I would have kept Grape Ice, but the guitar was seriously banged up and sanding down to wood and a rebuild was the only option. I was thinking about completely redoing the electronics, but I think I'll just rewire it and replace the old pots. It's looking pretty sweet right now, and I've probably got one of the only Ibanez RG560s in the world in racing green! I think I'll keep the old pickups, I was thinking about replacing them, and just redo the wiring, pots and 5 way switch, Great vid, and I can't wait to get my old axe up and shredding!
My neighbor was having a garage sale in the summer and he had an early rg220b in great condition. I got it for $25 including a stand. Boy does it sound great!!
Awesome!! I have the Grape Ice with the black headstock. Bought it brand new over 30 years ago. Definitely in mint condition. It has always been in the case when not being played.
I've been checking out early Ibanez RG 550-570s this video came up and I'm glad I found it. Great playing and I'm no longer convinced that the stock pups are total crap like some said!
Can you do a lesson on funk playing like what you were doing at 10:00? I would love that, its something that iludes me. Maybe even just on those type of chord shapes.
I've noticed one of you videos where you're playing one of your Ibanez guitars and the neck is scalloped and I want one like it. Where can I get one with a scalloped neck??
wow Pixxy...great playing in this one, when your on a guitar you like you start to really rock on, your not rusty....all you need is more distortion the early mid 90's is the time when many good which were made in Japan / USA whatever went to made in China, this is the time when things went sideways and we need to get back to made in the right places again
Thanks, Leo. I really do feel very comfortable on these necks. I'd say that Ibanez is my top brand, followed by Fender. All these early ones were made in Japan (and branded "Prestige" these days) and are top quality. I firmly believe these are the best value out there. To replace this guitar today you'd have to pay $1,100...or $2,200 in Oz. ;)
What are some of the best Mid 80s-ealry 90s Ibanez RGs in your opinion? About a year ago I swaped my friend an import Hamer for an RG and fell in love with it! I believe mine is a mid-late 90s but I wanna get my hands on an earlier model.
Hahaha - turned mere mortals into wizards! Sweet axe indeed! Btw, I'm pretty sure in Problem Child he says "Top this" but man it's been a while since I listened to that tune. Rock on, Steve!
Thanks, Dave! I'm terrible at hearing lyrics. I remember hearing a buddy singing along with a tune and I was amazed at how wrong I was. I just checked again, too, and I agree that it's "Cop this!." Such a 70s phrase! lol
The first decent guitar I bought (1989) . Got a Jem now and the difference in quality is definitely worth paying that bit extra for (2nd hand if you have to ). The neck and action on Rgs make them so much less easy to play.
I've watched some of your other videos and I noticed not like its difficult to but your style changes with the guitar but with the ibanez your really something else
I saw one of these for USD 200 in a local online market. The bridge is replaces with a TRS101 and it has paint cracks. It's like an orange color from the pics. Serial number says it's a '91. Do you think it's still worth it?
pixxy..heard you playing some John Sykes in there...thunder and lightning from lizzy!!...insane guitar work on that song ...speaking of lizzy I gotta know...Sykes or Gary Moore!?...P.S there is no wrong answer haha!
I paid about £350 for my 1993 RG550 about 15 years ago and it’s to this day still one of the best guitars I own. Only thing that bugs me about it is that it’s a black one and not one of the cool bright colours.
Hey man I just picked up what u thought was a 1990 ibanez rg570 at a pawn shop for 150 dollars. It was in decent shape and I couldn't pass up the deal. The color of the guitar was a purple chameleon type. When I got it home to see it up I took the neck off and discovered that it was a rg550r neck. The model number on the neck joint wasn't legible. And the back of the headstock had no model number as well. My question to you is..Did ibanez make an 550 with a rosewood fretboard that had no pick guard? Or did someone put a 550 neck on a 570 body? Btw the guitar cleaned up nice and plays like butter.
Another great vid my friend. I've went through all your vids and diggin them all. Now I just cant figure which system I want to get and use. But I think like you I will just get and use both Guitar Rig and TH2. Thanks for the vids and keep slingin them strings.
$320 with case for a mint 560!!! you got a beyond great deal on that! i just paid $500 for a 1987 RG 560 in lipstick red in mint shape with original case. The main thing is the necks are original wizards and to me are the best feeling ones.
After a week of extremely aggressive negotiating I just got a 1990 760 in Lip Stick Red, Seymour Duncan in the Bridge, hardshell case and it's just about as mint as possible, only thing that has wear is the volume knob, which I've already ordered a new one. I paid $625, which is a lot compared to what Pixxy finds his for, but where I live they usually run $1500
9:34 "You hear that? That's the sound of UA-cam clicking off across the nation." Hahaha... funny man - love your videos - awesome playing and what an amazing super strat - your friend got a super deal!!
Cool color. And nice guitar. I've been getting alot of Ibanez GAS lately. Its clearly your fault I purchased a 540S -91 on Ebay on Christmas day :D Keep it up Steve
i just got a Ibanez Jem off ebay for 1500$ basically mint, one small mark on the headstock. its an 06 and yea its actually real! Pixxy you shoulddo a video on how to setup a guitar. adjust action get a floating trem system to be level with the body...all that kinda stuff!
Hey Steve! great video once again. I was wondering... You said that you can spot an Ibanez before 1990 (or so) if it doesn't have the writing on the headstock, and I saw that you don't have any guitar with the "RG" or "S" or whatever on the headstock, and my question is: Do you think that the modern Ibanez with the writing on the headstock are inferior or not as good?, because I own a couple of RG's and a S series, and they sound awesome, but maybe I'm too naive hahahaha... Great Vlog, by the way, and I'm a huge fan from Morelia, Mexico. Cheers! Rock On!
Just purchased a 2001 RG220B. Amazing guitar. Needs a bridge tho. The Floyd is basically unusable since it's licensed. Threw a Seymour Duncan in the bridge and it's a dream
Love your video's and these guitars. Your patches on GR5 sound so awesome. When I play over the same patch it sounds not that good. You are obviously a vetter player, but I use a Line6 toneport GX as a USB interface. Do you think the quality of that differs a lot form your interface or is there another reason. I play with a Rg3210 prestige btw Thank you in Advance, Greetings from your Dutch subscriber
its so hard not to always have at least one OLD ibby in the collection. wizard neck + original edge is the sweetest combo. I like those disclaimers on ebay and craiglist...rare color ! super low serial number! its all horseshit haha rock on man!
Agreed! These old Ibbys are just killer. For the $325 he paid, you can't get anything even close to this quality for that money these days. Hell, even back in '91 this sold for $649, or over $1,000 in today's dollars. HA! All those eBay marketing terms are too funny. Don't forget "lawsuit"! lol
PixxyLixxx I actually have an RG270 that is VERY rare. It's an RG270 in a Metallic Turquoise color and the maple neck/fretboard. It's a '94 and it had the LoPro II in it. I snatched that P.O.S. out of there and put a Floyd 1000 in it. Totally different animal.
RG 270's in general? No. Mine? Yes. Mine's made in Korea. They're HSH configured with a Licensed Floyd. Mine has an Original Floyd, so I hopped mine up. What makes my RG270 rare is that it's got a maple fretboard with a metallic teal paint job. All stock. Good luck finding one of those. I've brought it to several Guitar Centers and local guitar shops and I've been told countless times that it's a very unusual and uncommon version of a 270.
Justin Owen Yeah I bought a brand new Rg 270DX (maybe?) It was dark metallic green, black hardware but mine had a reversed headstock. I haven't found one yet. And I paid around 700 I believe back in 97/98'.. One of the better guitars I've ever owned
The Grape Ice 550 has 2 knobs while your lipstick red 550 has 3 knobs. I need an explanation. I'd kill to have the Grape Ice though, HSS, no plate, 2 knobs. My dream!
The Grape Ice is the correct configuration, one volume, one tone. The Lipstick Red's former owner put EMG pickups in it and it came with the three knob Strat setup (vol, tone, tone) pre-wired. Rather than rewire it, he simply drilled a hole for the new knob. The rewire isn't that difficult, but apparently he wasn't up for it. If you can find one of these, they are killer guitars. I see them for $300-$400 on a regular basis. At that price, they're a steal. There's always some idiot calling it "rare vintage" and asking $600+, but you'll find them for half of that if you can just wait for the deal to come along. I think he paid right around $300 for this one.
I wish this guy was my guitar teacher, this guy is a professional
I gigged a pair of 560s in the ealy 90s. A 1990 in Lipstck red & a 1991 in jewel blue. Incredibly stable tuning wise once they were setup. Bought a RG760 a few years ago to give me a nostalgia trip.
I love nerding out on older Ibanez RGs!
I'm new here and after first 15 seconds i'm astonished how much positive energy it gave me :)
That's why I love watching this guy
Wow! my favorite video of yours so far. Awesome playing and very cool clean stuff too. love your videos in general but the contrast to the clean stuff and funk stuff then back made it twice as interesting. I love your playing!

MyworstEnemy You can buy a brand new MIJ prestige for $1k...
bmhyakiri
I stand corrected.
MyworstEnemy u can still find some old rg560s for like 350-550
I've found rg560 for 500$ on a thrift shop app. What do u think?
9:25 Which song is that, I loved it.
Marvin Gaye- Whats going on
I like the painted matching headstock. Looks nice
Nice! Doing a little Brad Gillis cricket chirp around 6:00.

Ahhh the late 80,s/ early 90,s RG's.... My favorites 🤘🏽
He says "cop this"
To must !!!! What is the adjustment of your delay from 4:05 ? Thanks, Didier
That paint is gorgeous. Sounds great too.

I love the colour. Gorgeous condition for over 2 decades old
I used to have this exact model guitar in this colour with a Seymour Duncan invader in the bridge. I loved it so much and I lost it in a fire. Gutted
2 questions: 1) Didn't you have a different handle before "Steve From Boston"? 2) 10:28 Who is "51"?
great playing, great guitar, great video ...what more to say
Great video---that guitar looks gorgeous and has killer tone. These videos are slowly turning me into an Ibanez fan! lol
RG 550Dx. My favorite still. Love Ibanez.
what is that jazz song 9:00?
I've noticed one of you videos where you're playing one of your Ibanez guitars and the neck is scalloped and I want one like it. Where can I get one with a scalloped neck??
When did ibanez started putting the shark tooth inlays? The dots has always been the traditional. But the shark tooth inlays I find pretty cool.
Paulo Tuble first used by Ibanez in 1986
what a beautiful colour!
wow Pixxy...great playing in this one, when your on a guitar you like you start to really rock on, your not rusty....all you need is more distortion

+PixxyLixxx pls check out my channel
I have the same exact copy of that guitar, its amazing, the older the better it gets the sound
This 560 is my favorite guitar that Steve has showcased yet..
That Grape Ice is gorgeous!
Fantastic high gain tones by the way, thanks for the video!
Do you ever do 'mildly distorted blues tone'?
Love it ! Gotta get My RG out and start playing again !!!
Great video. My second guitar was an ibanez road star. I've been thinking about picking up an RG560. I really like HSS for diverse tones.
Crazy score, love the pre Prestige RGs, best super strats for the money by far.
What are some of the best Mid 80s-ealry 90s Ibanez RGs in your opinion? About a year ago I swaped my friend an import Hamer for an RG and fell in love with it! I believe mine is a mid-late 90s but I wanna get my hands on an earlier model.
Did you ever get to review a Ibanez 550?
i like this sound, please share your setup in guitar rig 5
Your playing is amazing, I would love to take some lessons from you.
Good Bon impression!!!!
Hahaha - turned mere mortals into wizards! Sweet axe indeed! Btw, I'm pretty sure in Problem Child he says "Top this" but man it's been a while since I listened to that tune. Rock on, Steve!
okay, so I had to go back and listen.. it's "Cop this!"
Thanks, Dave! I'm terrible at hearing lyrics. I remember hearing a buddy singing along with a tune and I was amazed at how wrong I was. I just checked again, too, and I agree that it's "Cop this!." Such a 70s phrase! lol
Did anyone else think that the harmonic at 12:51 sounded like a talk box?
that looks awesome man!!
The first decent guitar I bought (1989) . Got a Jem now and the difference in quality is definitely worth paying that bit extra for (2nd hand if you have to ). The neck and action on Rgs make them so much less easy to play.

great video! what patch in GR5 was it again?
7:06 Thin Lizzy?
I paid about £350 for my 1993 RG550 about 15 years ago and it’s to this day still one of the best guitars I own. Only thing that bugs me about it is that it’s a black one and not one of the cool bright colours.
I have this exact guitar. Bought it used in 1994.
Me too buy mine was a rg570 1990 blood red
Well I'm a little knew to this so I'm limited to to headphones so that being said how do I get that tone with headphones, no miking
How come you never put your buddy Bobby on? He seems to have a thousand guitars and you always demo them. We want buddy Bobby!
Good day sir, have you tried them new RG Genesis 656 ??
Hey man I just picked up what u thought was a 1990 ibanez rg570 at a pawn shop for 150 dollars. It was in decent shape and I couldn't pass up the deal. The color of the guitar was a purple chameleon type. When I got it home to see it up I took the neck off and discovered that it was a rg550r neck. The model number on the neck joint wasn't legible. And the back of the headstock had no model number as well. My question to you is..Did ibanez make an 550 with a rosewood fretboard that had no pick guard? Or did someone put a 550 neck on a 570 body? Jeeez 320 w case Japan ufr.... Wsy to ho Bobby, Steve great demo
I'm jealous....nice find!
What do you think of those new Ibanez Ultralite bars?
sera molestia que me indiques que salida tienen los pickups?
Nice. Grape ice.Is it for sale?
SWEET bro. I need to stop by with some of my best axes
Are all these guitars out of "your buddy Bobby's" collection or does he sell them?
So I know you said you were going to cool it on guitars this year but are you still going to get a tube amp this year?
The four screws were the All Access necks.
Love that finish!
wow great playing
LOVE your vids man! What a cool dude.
Another great vid my friend. I've went through all your vids and diggin them all. Now I just cant figure which system I want to get and use. But I think like you I will just get and use both Guitar Rig and TH2. Thanks for the vids and keep slingin them strings.
I`m still waiting for The PixxyLixxx Show at VH1...I`ll be patient
Sick guitar! I wish I could get this instead of my RGX220DZ beside me :D
i heard blake Shwarzenbach (Jawbreaker Era) used these before he went to LesPauls. if so, can someone gimme info if theure worth getting?
Hey Pixxy the new Mitchel HD400 they are new but what do think about them?they look like the Ibanez!
I don't know what Pixxy thinks but I bought one and think it rivals ANY Ibanez. Ive owned plenty of RG models and the HD 400 is a sweet comparison!
I bought an Rg-565 for $65, super excited
+Ribalfire Those are rare and usually got for $600+ in real good shape
so you stole that 565!
Haha! I heard some Thunder and Lightning in there! Lizzy forever baby!
Nice to hear a bit of Lizzy at 5.10 and 7.10 :) Early 90s RGs are my fave guitar, unbeatable value these days too.
God I wish I had a tremolo bar on my guitar, I think my next guitar is gonna be an Ibanez
9:34 "You hear that? That's the sound of UA-cam clicking off across the nation."
Hahaha... funny man - love your videos - awesome playing and what an amazing super strat - your friend got a super deal!!
Cool color. And nice guitar. I've been getting alot of Ibanez GAS lately. Its clearly your fault I purchased a 540S -91 on Ebay on Christmas day :D Keep it up Steve
What gauge pick you use??
4:55 PixxyLixxx HOW?!
i just got a Ibanez Jem off ebay for 1500$ basically mint, one small mark on the headstock. its an 06 and yea its actually real! Pixxy you shoulddo a video on how to setup a guitar. adjust action get a floating trem system to be level with the body...all that kinda stuff!
Hey Steve! great video once again. I was wondering... Great Vlog, by the way, and I'm a huge fan from Morelia, Mexico. Cheers! Rock On!
what software is this your using...
Yoo whats up dude rock on
dude , what interface your using ?
Dude, after teasing us with that John Norum riff, how about a cover of one of his songs ;-)
Just purchased a 2001 RG220B. Amazing guitar. Needs a bridge tho. The Floyd is basically unusable since it's licensed. Threw a Seymour Duncan in the bridge and it's a dream
I just scored a flame maple top 91 korea with the low pro for 175
Are active pickups worth it?
Love your video's and these guitars.
Your patches on GR5 sound so awesome. When I play over the same patch it sounds not that good. You are obviously a vetter player, but I use a Line6 toneport GX as a USB interface. Do you think the quality of that differs a lot form your interface or is there another reason.
I play with a Rg3210 prestige btw

yes I bought this same guitar and color with Ibanez moulded case for 350.;00
I wish I had one of these😭😭😭
its so hard not to always have at least one OLD ibby in the collection. wizard neck + original edge is the sweetest combo. I like those disclaimers on ebay and craiglist...rare color ! super low serial number! its all horseshit haha rock on man!

Justin Owen rg270 aren't rare just to let you know. Im pretty sure those are entry models made in Indonesia and nowhere near the japanese 570

Justin Owen Yeah I bought a brand new Rg 270DX (maybe?) It was dark metallic green, black hardware but mine had a reversed headstock. I haven't found one yet. And I paid around 700 I believe back in 97/98'.. One of the better guitars I've ever owned
Wow , nice guitars , not 5 alarm red but cool
Thanks for the info! I'll make sure I won't overpay!
