- Eli speaks about the importance of keeping an open mind and the unintended consequences of heteronormativity. He explains that, as society has evolved, homophobia has not disappeared but evolved into its modern form of heteronormativity. Eli goes on to talk about how to combat this issue in order to create a more inclusive society. Eli is a freshman at Saddle River Day School in Saddle River, New Jersey. He is interested in politics and has a passion for ensuring social justice and equally for all in the modern era. Eli is secretary of the student council, plays soccer and lacrosse, and manages the boys varsity basketball team. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Yeah, and how did that work out? Shows like Shehulk, Witcher Blood Origin and Amazon LOTR Fanfic(Rings of power) are abnormally bad, like, infinitely off from good. I'm not even mentioning Ve... Ve... Velma. Ugh, I just mentally vomited.
I've not seen the benefit of "greater inclusion and representation in the media." It just sucks, and I want the opposite of whatever this amalgamation of baseless, rootless and spiritless media is.
Don't watch it if you don't like it
It’s more subtle than directly saying things. It’s actions that show the homophobia.
This talk is wonderful since we need to talk more about this issue as well as how to better include LGBTQ people and other kinds of relationships

So where do babies come from if Heterosexuality is not normative?
Don't forget: men can get pregnant these day. 🙄
A majority of the people in congress don't even know what a woman is.
insemination exists.
@lol Let me explain what's really happening here.
The logic this guy and all others who peddle heteronormativity theory proceed thusly:
"Deviation is morally wrong, homosexuality cannot be morally wrong, therefore homosexuality cannot be deviant."
The flaw is the assumption that anything abnormal is a moral failure-- a choice made by a person. But an abnormality is not necessarily a choice. A person born without an arm is not of a lesser moral value than a normal person.
@@landofthesilverpath5823 I agree
@@landofthesilverpath5823 I don't think deviance or abnormalities are morally wrong
Why are there so many dislikes? Smh
Because its pseudo science.
I think if more people spoke like this person...kindly....instead of politicians making this issue political - people would probably be way more open to acceptance. We should all try to be kinder to one another.
No.

Wow he’s incredible! Such a great talk
A Very Well given Talk. I agreed with most of His Points, but I Always feel like Talks Like this one neglect the fact that literally everyone struggles with Meeting the expectations of Society and the Media, it ist never Just Group XYZ. Trying to Live Up to that is Generally Something that Nobody should be bothered with in my opinion.
struggling with expectations is not the same as being legally persecuted. Until fairly recently, gayness was illegal. It is not the same.
During this talk I took the time to point out the specific problems facing LGBTQ+ people in our society but you are absolutely correct that this is a part of a larger issue, it is a part of a larger, more powerful social force that demands conformity from us and penalizes those of us who are different. My talk connects to a larger theme, our society shouldn't create unhelpful expectations that force people to repress who they are for fear of being ostracized.
i love him
Ask him out ;)
Thank you very much for this intervention !!

Based on these statistics. There were probably at least one or two other lgbtq people in my 35 student class. Minus me of course ;)
Fun fact: the percent is actually around 20% in Gen Z, so assuming you're young it'd be roughly 4 others in your class
Homophobia is a direct offshoot of religion/ God belief. Just as racism is a direct offshoot of religion/ God belief. So homophobia and racism are strongly tied together by the same religious / God belief threads.

But what's so bad about that if I was a movie producer and I wanted to make a movie that I thought of and nobody LGBT is in my life or has anything to do with the story then why would I have to put one in it doesn't make any sense
Hey, I totally understand what your saying and the point of my talk is addressing the issue on a macro level. The point here is that we need to actively create an environment of inclusivity. You do bring up an interesting issue however, why is it that it would never come to this directors mind to include someone who is LGBTQ? This is why a change is so desperately needed, to break a cycle which precipitates exclusion, whether knowingly or not.
@@eliweinger7761 hey Eli great presentation I was just wanted to ask you should parents be allowed to control what children read or watch. like lgbtq content for children many parents wether it be for religious or other reasons do not want there kids exposed to lgbtq lifestyles what do you say to those parents who (want to protect there kids)
@Elio But, there are times when you are with a certain group of friends or such and you may actually not run into every type of human. I do understand it as a selling point for a movie as in if everyone is represented you have a wider and more equal viewer base. I was just meaning in certain situations not every type included may actually be the case, i was just against the "forcing" of it. I agree on your point though.😁👍☮
Eli Weinger I just wanted to say as an lgbtq+ teen your speech inspired me. I was that 4/10 until I found people like you who support me. Thank you

@@bibleburner except you do get it.. whats the prob?
Most people are LGBT.
@@thelonercoder5816 Except we don't? Being a second class citizen is not being equal.
I think most people are tired of this lgbt stuff being rubbed into their faces. By all means do what you want (without harming others), but why do you find it necessary to be validated by others? Just validate yourself
Just like A LOT of people are tired of heteronormativity in shows, movies, games and all of mainstream media all year long. This agenda isn't healthy and it shouldn't be forced down people's throats. Person A isn't anymore normal than person B. 🙂
if we dont get validated by others then we wont be socially accepted so then we would be hate crimed more often
Straight people should be the last people to complain about lgbt stuff being “rubbed into their faces” 🙂
Not as tired as we are of heterosexuality constantly being pushed in our faces, trust me.

No such thing as homophobia. Heteronormativity is good and healthy and valid. Only haters demonize heterosexuals.
