Thank you so very much for subscribing... close to 85k now and creeping closer to that UA-cam Play Button at 100K. I really appreciate all of you!!!
Those of you praying for Ray, I've been informed he's passed away, and is with our Lord in heaven. His friend Chris, that asked for your prayers is grateful for them.
My shoulder is still on the mend, with weeks or months (not certain yet) of physical therapy ahead. I'll be sticking to smaller projects in my wood shop as required. I promise you all, I'm doing all my homework as directed! Thank you 😊
I'm way behind with my comment section, and still may not be able to answer everyone. I will read and at least click the heart for you if I don't answer.
My Etsy store is finally open!!! Try this link: www.etsy.com/shop/RHumphreyWo...
or, go to Etsy.com and search for RHumphreyWoodworking (no spaces) to find it. These pens will be listed this weekend, and there are other items already there that you may recognize. Thanks for you interest!
Thanks for watching and subscribing! Share if the urge strikes you! -Rod - Розваги
Thank you so much, Rod. When I began woodturning many years ago I made lots of pens with wood given to me by my neighbours who realised that I'm fanatical about wood. These donors were mightily pleased when I returned the gift of a pen made from wood from their garden. I haven't made a pen for a while but you've given me the inspiration to return to my roots.
Semper Fi.
Glad to hear it Alan! I really enjoy pen turning too, and will be doing more of it, off camera for the most part. It's very satisfying. Semper Fi
Rod thank you for being you. These are amazing and stunning pens.
Thanks very much! 😊
OMG!!!! These pens are awesome looking!!!!
Thank you very much!
Great looking pens. And I love the bird at the end. During the spring and summer months I love when I get up in the morning to have my devotion time and I can hear the birds singing outside.
Thank you Eric! That sounds like a perfect way to start a day!
Thanks for all your videos. You are a real inspiration.
Love love the pens. and the colors are so beautiful. Always loyal.
Thank you very much Andrea! 😊
Absolutely loved the pens. I bought the turquoise Mesa style for my husband. Thank you so much for making it. Beautiful.
Thank you very much!
@@RHumphrey He loved it. ^-^

Thank you very much!
Beautiful, but then again, all of your work it fabulous!
You're very kind, thank you!
Pretty. Thank you for posting this.
Thanks very much! 😊
It's sooo relaxing to watch. 👍✨
Beautiful work Rod.
I normally don't watch pen videos ... but ... I always enjoy your easy going narrative, and of course your turning skills.
Great video.
Take care
Mike
Thank you Mike, I sure appreciate your time. I'm a big fan of yours! Cheers!
I see folk hitting stuff with hammers to try and "press" things in...
And in the same shot there's a vice they could've used...
These woodturning videos of yours are therapeutic Mr Humphrey...👍🇬🇧🇺🇸
Thank you my friend!
Awesome pens, thanks for sharing
Beautiful pens ♥️
Nice pen Rod! thanks brother!
Those look great Rod. I love seeing your videos, you always do such wonderful work.
Thanks so much!
Thank you for another lovely demonstration of your skill and art with these very handsome pens, Rod (and the little bird at the end was a delight). So glad your Etsy shop is open, and I wish you every success with it. Hope you will soon be offering coffee scoops!
Thanks very much Jill, yes, some posh coffee scoops coming soon. 😊
Take care of that shoulder. My Father, who was a ordained Nazarene Minister always said, "If you do your part, then God will do his part." Love the video. I always learn something new. God Bless You, and as always BE SAFE! Anchors Away.
Thank you my friend, I'll do just that, and have faith in the same. Wise words. Semper Fi
Beautiful pens! You did beautiful work.
Thank you very much!
Nice pens! I've turned quite a few pens. Love the whole process. Great way to use wood pieces that would normally get tossed in the trash. Trash to treasure...
Good start on your Etsy Store. I look forward to seeing what else you put up for sale.
Good to see ya getting back into turning after shoulder surgery. Keep those wood shavings flying!
Semper Fi brother!
Thank you! Semper Fi!
This has a real Zen feel to it. Mentioning at the beginning that you chose your tool based on the "need to practice" allows the viewer to share your focus and viewpoint. Does that make sense? It feels like we are learning along with you in real time. Well done, Rod.
Thank you Kirt, that's a nice perspective to hear. I appreciate it!
Nice job on the pens, Rod.
Beautiful job!
Nice looking pens.
I love to see you working! Superb.... 💋💙
Thanks very much! 😊
Those are some fine looking Pens Rod. I love the colors. And a great touch at the end with the bird.
We have bird feeders all over our backyard and love to watch them.
Nice job brother .....Semper Fi
Gary
Much appreciated, Gary! Semper Fi
An art work, thanks for sharing that
looks great! thanks for sharing
A little tip for you if you wish. When gluing the tubes into the pen blanks use a pair of snap ring pliers in the expansion mode. Keeps the fingers from getting icky,
I push about half of the tube into the blank, work it abound a bit to spread the glue then turn the blank around and finish the job. This way you get good adhesion from both ends.
Thank you David, love that snap ring plier tip!
Hi Rod...nice relaxed video...pens turned out great...congratulations on etsy store...All the best.....Andy
Thank you, Andy!

Thank you very much!
So glad you finally opened your store. Now I can see more if the beautiful things you make.
Thank you! I just need to get busy with more stocking.... I appreciate your interest!!
Congratulation!
That birds probably thinking- what, no buttered toast with this.
LOL 😁
It's amazing you can make something small on a lathe.
First, Top, those are great looking pens. Acrylic acetate is one of my favorite synthetics. It's what the manufacturers like Pelikan and Sheaffer use. I find that it chips less than the other resins and is easier to turn. The resonating feedback you are getting is coming from the mandrel. I would recommend getting a mandrel saver if you are going to do many pens (or switching to turning between centers... my preference). You'll have less eccentricity with either of these methods and you won't get as much (if any) chatter. Glad you are getting better, brother!
Billy
Thanks Billy, I appreciate the tip! Semper Fi brother
BEAUTIFUL PIECES OF PENS, COLOUR AND DESIGN. GREAT JOB MR. HUMPHREY
I appreciate you too, my friend. Ooh rah.
Thank you very much! Semper Fi!
muy hermoso,,,,,,,enamorada de sus trabajos
muchas gracias
Beautiful pens. Wonderful projects from your subscriber, Mark. Prayers for your continued healing.
Thanks so much!
The previous video I watched was a collection of oneliners so I couldn’t suppress a smile when you said: the five minute epoxy works good for me so I think I’m gonna stick with it.
lol, did I say that? 😀😝
I love your easy no fuss approach to making pens Rod. Keep up the great videos.
Thank you very much!
Those pens are really pretty but so is everything you make. I love watching your videos and look forward to them. Thank you for sharing your art and thank you for your service. Can't wait for the next video! Take care. 😊
Thank you very much!
I live about 2 hours out of Baltimore and have never seen an Oriole (the namesake of their MLB team). Beautiful bird and beautiful pens too.
Try putting some grape jelly out in May, they have a way of finding the stuff. For me, the grape jelly works better than any of the orange liquid feeders. Thank you!
Nice video Rod. I'm so glad you called it an Oriole. Drives me crazy when people call the bird a Baltimore Oriole.
Thank you! One of my all time favorite birds😊
Great job with the pens and good luck with the Etsy store. I’ll be sure to check it out.
Oriole just inspired me to grab some purple and yellow heart.
Yay! My favourite kind of project to watch is turning pens. And the opening of your etsy store?! It's a good day! 😊
Thank you very much!
Ahoj Rob. Musím uznat ze jste vážně šikovný. A preji hodně štěstí.
Velice vám děkuji, příteli
That's a beautiful set of pens there Rod! Congratulations on the Etsy store opening! - Ed
Thanks very much Ed, it's a work in progress still, but things are going well so far 😊
I have never made a pen but its something I want to do in the near future, I guess you need one of those bars to turn it on the lathe! Ps these 3 pens look awesome 👍👍👍
I find the pen mandrel helpful for sure, but you can do pen turning between centers. Thank you!
Congratulations on the Etsy opening! Pens are beautiful.
Thank you very much!
Hey Rod,
I love turning pens, those three are really beautiful!
Congrats on the store, and take care!
Regards
Lars
Thanks so much!
I searched on Etsy but did not find it.
Love your videos, good commentary.
It's under wood working, custom crafts. I searched R Humphrey and it came right up
here's a link, I'll be re stocking on Sunday 😊 www.etsy.com/shop/RHumphreyWoodworking
Beautiful pens, Rod. Glad you're on the mend - keep it going. Good luck with the Etsy store. I'm sure you'll do well.
Thank you! Hope so, but we shall see how it goes...
Well cone Rod! two mesas and one sierra style. Those are great pens. I have yet to successfully turn Acrylic Acetate. Not sure what I am doing wrong, but every single blank has blown out on me while drilling it. I clear the debris every 1/4 to 1/2 inch and drill at around 250 rpm. I only have brad point bits for them though, that might be the issue. Since I have found Alumilite, I haven't tried any more Acrylic ones. Today I turned a viceroy (sierra) and a 30 cal. bolt action with a diamond cast blank. It sold not 15 minutes after I posted a picture of it on my Facebook page. I have a shopify site that I am building . I have a few pens loaded up on it so far, have about 70 more to get loaded.. Still haven't sold one from my website though. It will come, eventually.
Thank you George! I drilled these at about 600 rpm or there about. I'm also using brad points. I just push through really slow and seem to do pretty well with the Acrylic Acetate so far. I'll be casting some blanks with Alumilite this week, hopefully it goes well. I've seen your beautiful pens on FB... what is your website?? post a link here if you want, It will get filtered out for my approval, but I'll make sure it posts
Beautiful pens and the bird at the end top it off, thanks I needed this morning fixing to have a small surgery done on my back. Thanks for sharing my friend take care and god bless from the 🇺🇸🇺🇸🦞🦞🐊🐊 Cajun 🐊🐊🦞🦞🇺🇸🇺🇸

Hey brother, I hope your surgery goes/went well and you recover quickly! I know you're Army Strong!! Semper Fi
R Humphrey thanks everything went great 👍
Maravilha..muito lindas canetas irmão! Obrigado pelos seus vídeos!!
Muito obrigado!
Finally.
The end result is just wonderful. As a digital art enthusiast I wonder how feasible it would be to gut a stylus and wrap the components in a beautiful resin shell like these. Cheers!
Good morning, Rod. Thank you, sir.
Edit: I'm an avid birder, too! Semper Fidelis.
Hello Sapo! Love watching birds here! I need to start keeping track of what I've seen just in my back yard... Semper Fi
@@RHumphrey You're closer to Red Lake, MN than I am. Go there in migratory season and be awestruck. Pelicans, ducks geese, terns. And landlubbers too. warblers that get there a bit later than we see them in my neck of the woods.
That is, if they still flock like they did when I was watching so many years ago.
I could go on...
Hi Rod, You said you need practice with the Skew. From the shaving I saw coming off the blank your Skew work is just fine. Like your Etsy page. Unfortunately customs charges levied on things I have bought from the US makes it really expensive. I might change my mind for a Red Cedar bowl though. Cheers, Huw
shame about the customs charges, I wish our markets were more free worldwide. I might put some cedar up, not sure yet. I'm still in experimental mode here, with the whole idea of selling, using Etsy, all of it...
Nice
Thank you!
Красота :-)
Pens are beautiful, will make great gifts for that new job. Congratulations on your new store. Just wondering, what do you do with the resin shavings? Put them in other resin for bowls? They’d look like confetti? A unique look for a bowl, maybe for a kid? Sorry, I just get ideas on creating things...
Most of it just goes to the dust bin, but it it's a really pretty pile of shavings, I'll save it for another project.
👍👍👍👍👍
Great looking pens. I just turned my first one on Friday (first project) then a mallet today. I’d love to send you pictures but I can’t figure out how to add them.
Congrats on that! On my YT page, under the "about" tab, you can find my email. I stopped giving it out because I'[m so far behind in answering... trying to catch up.
Dear Rod, beautiful as always but this time a complete different direction. I wonder how these would look with an ink fountain pen. I sometimes like to use a fountain pen when writing Christmas or Birthday cards. With ballpens my handwriting is illigible. But its a complete different story with a fountain pen. The turquoise pen is my favorite. How do I find you on Etsy? What is the name of your store? I checked under your youtube name and unfortunately couldnt find you. Would love to buy something you made. Thank you.
Love them. Could you add a direct link to your etsy store? For some reason it's not coming up when I search it.
Thank you Jen, sorry about that link oversight... here it is www.etsy.com/shop/RHumphreyWoodworking
wow i remember when i was a young teenager soldiers in my dads company in the army would pay me and my younger brother $10.00 a pair of boots to hand spit shine them we made about $150 to $200 a month each spending money but oh boy were our fingers soar and our mouths dry till we learned to use bottled water lol
Great pens! Good too see another video, How’s the shoulder ?
Thank you! Coming along, still in therapy but making good progress. Thanks for asking!
You should put a link to your Etsy in the description. I’m to lazy to actually look it up.
www.etsy.com/shop/RHumphreyWoodworking There you go my friend! Thank you!
They came out nice, as to be expected. You about back to 100% yet?
Thank you Jason, 70% for the most part
Beautiful work. Is there any way to use all the shavings to make something else?
I save the best of the shavings for other things. they show up in videos every now and then, though it's been a while.
Pŕecioso rebonito MR H
hopefully a EGA bowl will make it to etsy,, hint hint when you get healed up
Thank you! that bowl already has a new home, but I may make more in the future... Semper Fi
With the sound down, I could watch you turn the pen blanks for a long time!
Thank you very much!
MontBlanc pen company move over....your competition now is RodBlanc...hang onto your man glitter from these pens....Rod is just like a box of chocolates, you never know what you will get.......BUT it is all GOOD. :))
lol, too funny Andy! I do try to keep things fairly "fresh" here though, repetitive projects can get boring.... Thank you very much my friend.
@@RHumphrey yeah we all know how much i hate boring..
I don’t know a lot about wood working so I was wondering what lathe you use?
i use a Jet 1442 variable speed. Thank you!
Do you regrind the drill tips for the epoxy blank?
no, but they're relatively new bits
What does the engraving on your ring say?
One ring to rule them all, One ring to find them. One ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them. (Lord of the Rings 😊)
OMG dude is there nothing you can't make? (I hope I said that right 😂) Seriously though these are bad a... Do you sell these? I would love to have one.
Thank you very much! I did sell them all in my Etsy store, but I'll be making more. 😁 www.etsy.com/shop/RHumphreyWoodworking
Hi ,
Do you have any training class?l intrested to lern woodburning
sorry, no
Hi, do you sell your products?
The pens turned out great. I went over and found your Etsy site. You might want to add a link to it in the description. it was semi difficult to find. But then again I'm not the best on a computer. Here is a copy of the link for anyone who wants to go check it out. www.etsy.com/shop/RHumphreyWoodworking?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=709206716
Good luck with the shoulder. Dave
Thank you very much Dave! Thanks for posting the link too!
Love all 3 I just watched your video u should check out the most recent video on positive couple ty for sharing
Thank you! That is an amazingly beautiful table, nice tip, thanks!
Can I buy a pen?
Why do pen turners like making bloated bulbous centers on pens. Look awkward and top heavy. No pen manufacturer does it so why then?
They actually have a nice hand feel when writing, but to each their own. Maybe I'll make some slender pens in the future too, not a bad thought, thanks.
