    Thanks for the video. What preventive measures can an Hyundai Owner do? Also, have the journal oil flow issue been corrected with the newer models. What weight oil do you recommend since there are 3 different weights listed in the Owners manual all are suitable for the NJ area?

    Man it would be super helpful if there was a mechanic or manager at my local dealership who gave a crap about doing warranty work. I've been having nothing but issues with this dealership for this same exact code being thrown and I'm going on two weeks now with no vehicle, no rental, and they have yet to look at the car. I appreciate your video and how helpful it was to at least somewhat understand what could possibly be the issue with my vehicle, but my local Hyundai's service team as well as service manager are all absolutely ridiculous.

      I purchased a Optima. Did the recall for knock sensor to be added, eight days engine coded and had to be replaced. My vehicle was at dealership for almost 2 months due to backlog for engine problems. Engine was replaced, but 10 days later, engine lit on and car stopped. This time faulty sensor. Car ran for 10 days and while driving slowed to a complete stop. Had it towed to dealership (3 previous tows) to find out it needs a new transmission. I have continued to make car payments. No loaners. No car. PLEASE KNOW when they engines are upgraded, you will have to replace the transmission to work with the upgraded engine. So I am 2 months in waiting for a transmission. 4 months downtime with a car I have owned for 10 months.

      My closest Hyundai dealership is an hour away. They won’t be able to get my car in to be looked at for a month and a half. That’s unacceptable. I’m pretty sure I’m having a knock sensor issue and not actually an engine issue itself. My abs lights came on and then a few hours later the engine light started blinking and my car went into limp mode. No knocking noises tho. I’m hoping that I can get my car driving condition tomorrow if it is just the knock sensor and then have complete diagnostics ran at the dealer in a month and half in case there’s something that becomes a catastrophic engine failure and needs replacements.. and that’s covered by all Hyundais who have the latest knock sensor installed which I’m thinking mine does because it’s a later 2015 Hyundai Sonata that I bought dec 31st 2018. No recalls are on my car for a new knock sensor. Hoping this isn’t going to cost me a ton bc I’m broke.

    Hey there. Great video and great info! My mother in law just had this issue on her 13 sorento. Also, at 2500 miles into the oil change, it was very low! Consuming oil is my guess. Kia did all tests and check bearing clearance and said all was good. My huge favor question to you is: What tolerances are considered acceptable and what's bad?? 0.003 good, and 0.005 bad? I am not sure. I dont know their tolerances and I'd like to know if she is on the cusp of bad things happening or not? Thanks a ton in advance!

    Dealership charged me for a knock sensor replacement and 300 miles later the engine started knocking. They crooked me. If they had checked the rod bearing clearances they would have known that the bearings were bad. They caused me to be stranded 200 milesfrom home. Still waiting for the Hyundai case manager to call. Which are starting to have these same issues. I my engine is limping and I’m pretty sure it’s a knock sensor issue and not the engine it’s self. • @SEsGarage
      @SEsGarage  2 роки тому +1

      So you have one of two issues. First off, make sure you’re using top tier fuels. If they are subpar fuel and less resistant to knock this will happen. Second. Have you ever done an induction service on the car? Carbon backup on the back of the intake valves, and top of pistons is common on these GDI engines and should be done every 15-20k miles. Check my video on induction services out

    How was that tool measuring main bearing clearance? The way I’ve been taught the only way to measure main bearing clearance is by using a mic and a bore gauge or with plastigauge. Or is that like a compression tester?

    • @ripptydevibes2581
      @ripptydevibes2581 Рік тому +1

      Air pushes the piston down, then air sucks the piston up. The up and down of the piston will show clearances of both the piston wrist pin AND the main bearings all at once. Apparently, the wrist pins never develop play so whatever measurement you get, if its outa spec its always the mains on that engine..
      Theretically you can do this test without the tool, but you would need to find a way to setup a dial indicator in a way that it cant move. Pull the piston down by rotating the crank and stop halfway. Then setup the dial and feeler and then manually push the piston top downward without disrupting the dial setup.

    Can you update the knock sensor if the engine doesn’t turn over or can you replace a knock sensor with a new one with the new update already installed on it? Or is there a way to somehow get the update by other means like extending the wire on the knock sensor and putting it into another car so the computer thinks that it was updated.

    Seems like Hyundai found a way to screw people with this update by making it a requirement to be able to be eligible for the limited lifetime warranty. These dumb judges and lawyers fell for it. All the update does is make the knock sensor more sensitive to try and save an engine that has already started to fail by putting it into limp mode.
    This should of never been a campaign but a recall on all engines for safety reasons. They also lied in the owners manual by stating they recommend oil changes at 7,500 miles for normal use and 5,000 miles for more heavy use but all these engines are burning a quart of oil every 500-1,000 miles leaving the car bone dry by the next oil change.
    Rod bearings are failing because of the way the engine was engineered. It is a faulty engine that is bound to fail no matter what a consumer does to try and prevent it. These am engines were built to fail by design.
