Dakota Sketo Yeah. I like it best and have kept it on the longest. I used to switch back to Corsa after each muffler I tried and always liked the Corsa best until I put it back on after trying the ATAK and was actually anxious to take it off and put the ATAK back on.
Matt Earle when you ran the Borla Atak crate muffler would yours crackle/pop when your coasting and let off on the gas? Mines all stock so doesn’t sound aggressive as yours. I love my Atak but hate the crackle/pop while driving in Drive. If I’m shifting manually with the + or - it’s not noticeable. My wife drives in drive so I can hear the muffler being bogged down while cruising. Any idea how I can fix that w/o adding headers? Lol I also don’t have a CAI installed yet hopefully soon. Thought about switching to a Carven R-Performance muffler but figure check with you first.
Carven R will probably do the same. As long as everything is working properly like clean MAF sensor, no exhaust leaks etc. The only thing you can do is get a tune. The Carven R or any muffler of that type will probably do the same as the ATAK.
Matt Earle thanks, I’ll probably wait for now. Mines a 2019 so no tune available at the moment. Everything is good exhaust wise just the crackle/pop when the rpm’s drop and your not accelerating. Truck already went back to the dealer for engine issues so tune gonna be awhile if anything. Other than that I love the ATAK. Maybe under load I won’t notice it as much and with Mud tires won’t be able to hear it lol
How come you like Borla over corsa? I’m thinking about getting either borla or corsa and I can’t decide. What is your major deciding factor between the two?
The Borla ATAK is deeper, more throaty and louder at idle and lower RPMs. The Corsa will be quieter down low with less resonance in the cab but just as loud at full throttle.
@@jusincraze9527 it resonates pretty good inside the cab but I like it because of that. I like hearing my exhaust. Part of the reason I like it over Corsa. The Corsa almost sounds like stock at idle and cruise even with headers. The drone is minimal with the Borla and less with the Corsa.
Thanks for the video. Borla's website doesn't do it justice. Any idea how the 40085 compares? Didn't want to spend the extra cash on the ATAK but it really sounds awesome. Is there much drone in the cab? I have a magna flow thats rusting away, it has a little bit of drone but still sounds good... Not as good as the ATAK in your truck. Not going with headers on my 07 so I might go with the 2 1/2 pipe size, 400826
The ATAK resonates in the cab a good but with headers meaning it is just that loud. I wouldn't call it drone per say like compraed with the Super 10. I can say how it would sound with stock manifolds though.
Shaneman20 I'm back! Lol it's been a rough last few months, but it was nice to be able to shoot some videos again. I even got the Volant CAI on in this video.
I had the ATAK cratemuffler. It is a universal muffler sold separately. Then I just used a catback kit I bought used and made it all work. You need the y-pipe with the headers unless you are going with true duals.
I got a ?? Man. I’m keeping my truck motor stock for awhile but I’m delete the 3rd cat which muffler would sound the best. The borla atak, carven r , or the black widow neighborhater
What sound are you going for? Carven R and Neighborhater will sound similar all around and the ATAK will be almost as loud but deeper in the lower RPM range.
On a N/A 5.3L, 1.75" will be plenty but if adding a supercharger I would go 1.875". On a 6.2L I would go 1.875" no matter what. Smaller tubes may be a little bit quieter and not as deep.
How much louder is this compared to the XR1. I dont have headers. But just want to know the sound difference. I bought the XR1 and it isnt loud enough for me. Also, Does it drone bad? My XR1 has no drone
It will be louder in the cab but it is a sound I like and not what I would call drone. It is a good bit louder than both XR-1's I had with headers so it should still be louder without.
The volume of the ATAK resonated in the cab but I don't call it drone. It didn't bother me like some of the other ones but I enjoy hearing my exhaust inside and out.
@@mattofearle ah you hear that good rumble lol reason I asked is cause I have a t56 swapped ls3 headers x pipe true duals through 2 magnaflow bullet mufflers and the drone is fucking horrible your truck sounds fucking good lol so I'm gonna buy some ataks and see what they do hopefully they help 😅

@CarGuruGalore tough to answer. If you want loud, deep and aggressive all the time, go ATAK. If you want loud cold starts, quiet warm idle and cruise but loud WOT, go Corsa.

Fernando Colmenero It's really aggressive. I really like it. It's a cross between the crisp and loud Corsa with the deep tone and rasp of the Carven TR. I'm not a fan of quiet. Lol
Matt Earle yes sir I agree with you ... the headers really wake it up as well so I'm most definitely gonna get the atak some day next week for sure lol hopefully it sounds as good as yours
have you tried any of the other atak mufflers for the GM motors? are there any sound differences? im trying to change out my flowmaster 44 muffler for a borla atak but borla customer service wont give me any information other then to buy the whole system.
JCDET no. This is the only 3" Borla ATAK cratemuffler that fit my needs. I'd like to try the whole system but I think this one sounds pretty good and don't see spending the money on the system unless I sell all the mufflers I have just to do so. Lol
haha yea i hear you there. thats pretty much where im at. i cant justify the $1300 price tag for the whole kit but they wont offer the muffler seperately and keep telling me that the crate mufflers will not sound the same as the one offered in the kit
Easier, cheaper and deeper IMO. True duals requires a custom x-pipe after headers and two mufflers. Everything I have is a simple bolt on anybody can easily do and I didn't have to buy two mufflers each time for all my videos. I also feel a single 3" sounds better and deeper when I've compared it to true duals in the past. Plus I planned to exit it in front of the rear tire which I now have.
Wusup Man, so I just got the borla oval xr1, definitely louder than the magnaflow 4x9 I had. But still not loud enough lol. How does the oval xr1 compare to the ATAK muffler?
Richard Morici This is a Kooks green catted y-pipe. With or without aftermarket cats, you will need to tune out cat inefficiency codes because they are not as efficient as the stock ones. I tuned my codes out and still have the O2 sensors functional as well.

@LaneWarrior III Ridez. Thanks for the kind words. I can only truly speak on a few of those mufflers. The ATAK would be loudest then SLP, Magnaflow, XR-1 and S-Type being quietest. I had an SLP in for about an hour and I thought it was similar to the Magnaflow I tried but a tad louder.

John Robinson If you want as loud as you can get while being crisp and clean with a little tone, go ATAK. If you want less noise, but a deeper tone, go XR-1. The ATAK was louder inside the cab overall but good and the XR-1 being deeper had more drone sound most don't like. I like the ATAK more due to me always wanting louder, but I wish it was just a tad cleaner under medium loads where it can have that "farmtruck cackle" other than that it's almost perfect for me. There is no being quiet with this one. It's as loud or louder than the Corsa, but has a deeper tone down low that the Corsa doesn't have and that's where you can keep the Corsa quieter but not the ATAK. The XR-1's both had a deep clean tone, aggressive sound but not over the top at WOT.

Can’t wait to do my 2019 like this
Crimson Castillo love to see / hear how it turns out !?
Dose anyone els notice that lil wine sounds with the kooks headers 😍👀
A K&N cold air intake makes it sound like supercharger too 🤣 dudes look at me funny when the throttle body opens and it hisses
Matt Earle how bad is the borla on resonance and drone in the cab?
@@jusincraze9527 it resonates pretty good inside the cab but I like it because of that. I like hearing my exhaust. Part of the reason I like it over Corsa. The Corsa almost sounds like stock at idle and cruise even with headers. The drone is minimal with the Borla and less with the Corsa.
Matt Earle thanks man I’m about to
Buy the borla now. Actually I got to buy 2 of them becuase of my true dual pipes😂
Does it still have the 3 cats
Not in this video. Just the two aftermarket Kooks green cats.
He's back!
Shaneman20 I'm back! Lol it's been a rough last few months, but it was nice to be able to shoot some videos again. I even got the Volant CAI on in this video.
What do you have to join the kooks Y pipe to the atak and I'm also wanting to do side exit before the axle..
I like that crackle sound yours make when shifting gears. I want a nice deep aggressive sound.
@@dackerystone2014 ATAK is my choice then.
Alright thanks for the help.
i know that the 1 3/4 is a smaller diameter than the 1 7/8, do you think there is much difference in sound/performance between the two?
On a N/A 5.3L, 1.75" will be plenty but if adding a supercharger I would go 1.875". On a 6.2L I would go 1.875" no matter what. Smaller tubes may be a little bit quieter and not as deep.
Matt Earle thanks man, your truck sounds excellent
Sounds like pure art.
In stereo!!!????? Nice 👍🏾
Sounds great...I have super tens but may purchase the Ataks soon.....sound much better than the flows
Hemi Fire yes it does. I love it.
@@mattofearle I wouldnt mind hearing it in the cab, just dont want the drone/awful vibration that gives you a headache after 5 minutes.
Or even what would you recommend as the most agreesive and best sounding muffler. Any brand.
I'd go with the ATAK for loud and aggressive

The volume of the ATAK resonated in the cab but I don't call it drone. It didn't bother me like some of the other ones but I enjoy hearing my exhaust inside and out.
@@mattofearle ah you hear that good rumble lol reason I asked is cause I have a t56 swapped ls3 headers x pipe true duals through 2 magnaflow bullet mufflers and the drone is fucking horrible your truck sounds fucking good lol so I'm gonna buy some ataks and see what they do hopefully they help 😅
@@labisk I noticed less drone than the Magnaflow and even XR1's. It is a lot louder but it's a crisp and higher pitch deep loud that doesn't make sense in writing. Lol it doesn't have the packing like those others so it doesn't have the low vibrating annoying drone tone that rattles that plastic going down the highway.
Anyone know if this muffler is better or the corsa atak one?
I'm not sure I understand what you are asking.
@@mattofearle is the corsa xtreme or the borla atak better sounding?
@CarGuruGalore tough to answer. If you want loud, deep and aggressive all the time, go ATAK. If you want loud cold starts, quiet warm idle and cruise but loud WOT, go Corsa.
@@mattofearle what corsa muffler would you recommend for a 5.3 truck. I already have a full borla exhaust so I don’t wanna swap it out for a whole new corsa one, so I just want a interchangeable crate muffler
@@CarGuruGalore headers? How loud do you want it?
Would you recommend this Borla exhaust over the Race Venom muffler and the neighborhater muffler? Looking for loudness and aggressiveness.
I have never tried the neighborhater or race venom but would imagine the neighborhater would be loudest followed by the ATAK then the race venom. I love the ATAK but the Widowmaker wasn't far off do the neighborhater should be louder than both.
Matt Earle I’ve read X-type is more aggressive sounding but I see you got a Y-pipe, any Inputs on that?
@@elguero6753 the x-pipe is usually higher pitched and quieter when compared to a y-pipe into a single tailpipe. I have had both on another truck and the single was deeper and louder but the x-pipe had a more refined higher pitched tone.
Do you know the part number for the crate mufflers? I'm looking to do a true duals exhaust with an x pipe and two Atak mufflers on my 2018 Silverado
It says at the beginning of the video and in the description I believe. 400844
Installing this part number muffler (X2) using true duals should result in similar sound on 2018 Silverado, yes. I do not have headers at this point but may install in the future. Great video! Love the sound of your truck. Clean, deep and powerful
Your input would be greatly appreciated as I'm not that mechanically savvy.
@@garretts8672 true dual 3" will be too big. Might be better off with dual 2.5" instead. Either will sound different than a single 3" like mine. If using an X or H- pipe, I find it is less throaty and a little more refined and quieter than a larger single. Without headers, these trucks are much quieter.
Sorry I didn't clarify. I would definitely be doing 2.5" piping g for true duals. I appreciate your inlput. Just so hard to find the right crate muffler for my Silverado as very few have videos with them installed. Love the Atak series specifically made for the truck but they want me to purchase the whole lot rather than sell me the mufflers. Thanks again.
What’s your exhaust set up header back? Do you have factory of aftermarket cats and resonators, or did you delete them all? Did you go with 3” piping?
Each video has details in the description. Kooks cats, no resonators and 3" piping.
The kooks isn’t legal in California right ?
Is it difficult to install ?
I don't believe anything aftermarket is legal in California. Lol It's not bad to install if you're somewhat mechanically inclined already.
Hey man badass truck man! I’ve been wanting to put mufflers on my truck. It’s an 08 Silverado true dual straightpipe no cats and was debating on this muffler, a black widow neighborhater, and corsa sport. Can you tell me the difference and what you would recommend? The 1st muffler had an oval 12” case borla xr1 u can barely hear the cam super quite had to go! Lol the Second and current muffler is the shorty borla xr1 sportsman 8” round muffler 40004s which literally no one has probably because it comes with 3.5” in and outlet, with this one the cam is way noticeable but I think the atak crate muffler will sound meaner.
Jose Sainez Good choice. I love this muffler. Let me know how you like it.
Sure will!
I had the same problem I’m cam with borla xr1 with headers and was quite and did the magnaflow bullet can hear the cam lope more now.
Man that atak sounds aggressive... I have the borla pro xs with tsp long tubes and it sounds too quiet for me lol... great video bro
Is the farm truck crackle bad like a glass pack?
Chase Trent it's not too bad. Just under certain loads and when cold.
have you tried any of the other atak mufflers for the GM motors? are there any sound differences? im trying to change out my flowmaster 44 muffler for a borla atak but borla customer service wont give me any information other then to buy the whole system.
It sounds badass but why go with a single exhaust instead of a dual exhaust.

It doesn't mess anything up. The 400844 is a 3" inlet/ outlet muffler and the 400826 is a 2.5". Our stock piping is 2.75" so I wanted to go up to 3" and not smaller than stock.

Please Matt!
@@mattofearle now we are talking about the Loudmouth2s perferated muffers not them Loudmouth1 resonator bullets? I always figured that Loudmouth2s were simply a cheaper version of what the S-Types were but had a more raw throatier sound.

Your thoughts on the ATAK vs the XR-1?
