  • Car Builders Door Restore Kit comes complete with OE plastic and adhesive sealant tape to water proof door cavities before interior trim is installed.
Without any waterproof barrier your timber door trims are exposed to water and moisture that passes through the inner door cavity. The nature of water will lead to distorting timber door cards and potentially mould in your door trims.
Car Builders have put together a premium heavy weight plastic film which comes over sized ready to stick down to any door shape.
    Application:
    1. Apply the black waterproof seal tape to the perimeter of the door, ensuring you leave door trim mounts exposed.
TIP* When you get to tight corner remove a portion of the tape backing to allow the tape to bend and make a neat radius.
    2. Remove the film off the water proof tape
    3. Stretch out the protective film and touch it down on the waterproof seal tape. Apply pressure where the film contacts to create a strong bond.
    4. With a utility knife cut around the outside perimeter of the seal path to remove the excess film and create that original factory finish.

that's what I should do. My Subaru Outback has extremely gooey/sticky black adhesive on it. Will have to carefully remove that first, then grab some double-sided tape as per your video. thanks for the inspiration.

Doesn’t it make more sense to put the flaps that cover the wire openings on the exterior/wet side of the plastic, not on the interior/dry side? 🤔

Awesome! One thing I would change is on that last flap you put on it. You have the opening at an upward angle, this means water can flow in. Probably wont ever be a problem, but if you can, you should always try to have the opening at the bottom of a flap so its much harder for water to slip in. Just picture how they lay shingles for a roof.
But thank you! I want something like this for sure!

What's the advantage of this plastic sheet in between?

Vapor barrier. "Hermetically" seals the doors interior components from weeping.

What do we use to stick the film to the door if we end up using another piece of plastic? I don't want to damage the paint with random adhesives.

Does that keep water from getting into the door just like the factor vapor barrier would

Some water will always find its way into the door. The molding on the outside of the door that sits against the glass helps to keep it to a minimum, but it can’t completely stop water from entering. That’s why there are also drain holes along the very bottom of the door. The plastic vapor barrier just keeps the water and moisture that gets inside the door from getting onto the backside of your interior door panel, which is a piece that you do not want getting wet.
As such, I would think the little flaps he put over the wire openings actually need to be on the other side (wet side) of the plastic barrier, not the interior/dry side.

    Cover it with vibrational materials

Hi Chance. The outer door skin does. If you were running big speakers in the doors you would also do the inner door skins instead of the vapour barriers 👍

In order for normal bass to appear, you need to completely isolate the interior of the door from the passenger compartment. For example, sealing all holes with vibration isolation. Then the sound waves from the back of the speaker will not "kill" the low-frequency waves coming from the outer surface of the speaker. In other words, the door is a floor-standing speaker system and is no different from a regular speaker except for the shape. Seal the holes with plastic wrap - complete nonsense)))
