"... [it] has brought me here, to this place, where i choose to look back, and see myself. and in the act of seeing, I am reborn." here's to this dimly lit shining star of the greatest game i've ever played
After it mentioned 'Seven Sisters', I figured out that this is a reference to the county Sussex in the UK. I also then noticed that British Sea Power(who did the OST) have a song called 'The Smallest Church in Sussex'. So this is a gentle redo of one of their own original songs
It's not the only one either. "Instrument of Surrender", or "those goddamn horns that stay in your head forever after you finish the game", comes from "Red Rock Riviera", for example. "Disco Inferno", the song that plays during the boat ride, comes from "Want To Be Free" (although it's significantly more melancholic, and features Robert Kurvitz, Disco Elysium's writer, in the vocals). If I recall correctly there are other examples but I don't really remember right now
Love this song and game, few games have made me cry and even fewer have made me look at why I believe the things I believe. Really pulled apart my beliefs and left with me with a single, simple truth to grip onto.

This is what happens to you when you blast Sad FM every morning.
"... [it] has brought me here, to this place, where i choose to look back, and see myself. and in the act of seeing, I am reborn."
here's to this dimly lit shining star of the greatest game i've ever played
After it mentioned 'Seven Sisters', I figured out that this is a reference to the county Sussex in the UK. I also then noticed that British Sea Power(who did the OST) have a song called 'The Smallest Church in Sussex'. So this is a gentle redo of one of their own original songs
A couple of the tracks in the game are from Sea Power
It's not the only one either. "Instrument of Surrender", or "those goddamn horns that stay in your head forever after you finish the game", comes from "Red Rock Riviera", for example. "Disco Inferno", the song that plays during the boat ride, comes from "Want To Be Free" (although it's significantly more melancholic, and features Robert Kurvitz, Disco Elysium's writer, in the vocals). If I recall correctly there are other examples but I don't really remember right now
@@outhouse124 A couple? Try most/all of them.
I failed the check the first time, reloaded and passed the second time. I ended up going back to the first save. It just felt right.
So hilarious when I mucked up this performance on my second playthrough as Sorry Cop.
thank you for everything kurvitz, hindpere and rostov
Your soul is immense
Kim Kitsuragi: No. You are not going to step onto that stage and sing this depressive nonsense while dressed like *that.*
Harry:
Kim would never say that
Love this song and game, few games have made me cry and even fewer have made me look at why I believe the things I believe. Really pulled apart my beliefs and left with me with a single, simple truth to grip onto.
Really need a karaoke version of this for all of us out here.
I dedicate this song to my partner Lt. Katsuragi.
That was an awesome moment ingame :)
for the longest time i thought he was sayin 'you are all i love'
So you never bothered to google the lyrics. Got it.
Somewhere there is an aging cop in stripper clothes, high on magnesium, singing this in a run down bar.
“Johnny law is gonna bust it down sad style”
Thanks for this !
That last verse was especially beautiful.
I literally cried during this karaoke performance which would have been sad if anyone had seen me do it but sadder that no was there to see it.
Endurance: Damn, even i am crying
Yup, i could not keep it together when Harry sang this. This game is absolutely brilliant.
The art is incredible.
I don't dedícate this to nobody, I sing this to myself
Harry my poor little meow meow
I cry every time this potent Pilsner is for all my comrades out there
the instrumental in this version is better than the original "the smallest church in sussex", wish there was a instrumental version of this one available
I bawled at this part in the game not teared up but legit tears streaming down my face sniffling. I heard it at the right time in my life to illicit that
I would often go there
To the tiny church there
The smallest church in Saint-Saëns
Though it once was larger
How the rill may rest there
Down through the mist there
Toward the Seven Sisters
Toward those white cliffs there
I would often stay there
In the tiny yard there
I have been so glad here
Looking forward to the past here
I'm the heaviest alcoholic I know. This hurts.
There is always hope
I have been so glad here looking forward to the past here
Whoa! This is the 3rd version I've heard of this song! :O
(I got the "Fail" version in the game, listened to Sea Power's original and just now realized this was the "Success" version in the game...though I love the Fail version)
I'll raise a glass to this.
In honor of your will, lieutenant-yefreitor. Which you kept from falling apart, in the face of sheer terror. Day after day. Second by second.
DETECTIVE.
Sometimes I feel like forgetting everything I’ve done is the only way to be happy again
Bye, my love
When Tom Waits does your OST.
Ladies and gentleman, Harrier DuBois.
You mean Raphäel A. Custou?
@@lordnaivel4424 you mean Tequila Sunset?
@@patricktinkl4996 Names are stupid anyway
*Inbetween names right now
I don't want to be this kind of animal anymore.
This feels like Nick Cave meets Tom Waits and I love it
right? i was thinking leonard cohen and tom waits haha
exactly, and as a big fan of both this scene in Disco Elysium might be my favorite I've come across in all my years of gaming.
Historians and scientists will argue whether this is when we evolved from homo sapiens to homo disco
Disco homos
This reminds of a part of a Godspeed You Black Emperor song.
Absolute banger
Sometimes ı feel like ı cant take it. This song gives me extremly melancholic feelings with sadness. İts just another level.
I would often go there... to the tiny church there....
The church is his past! :)
Or love...
or the future...
It's not one-to-one symbolism like that. The song is just about yearning for something you no longer have, and the idea that it's meaningless without human connection anyway.
@@Wveth It's a reference to something you can say to Garte after the performance.
when I sung this in my playthrough I forgot that Kim wasn't available and it made me so sad
I love leonard cohen
I stepped into the waste land of reality. Thank you Harrier.
Saddest shit i've ever heard
The best failed skill check ever
for me standing there with my kim on my side and everyone there uni guys undercover guys to hear my harry sing his soul out like that made my eye tear up and reminded me of how life bombarded me and yet I'm standing like a lighthouse for the tired souls thanx kim for telling me I'm the greatest detective you layid your eyes on
I'd like to dedicate this song to Garte. It's all shit, Garte.
Interesting they didn't change the "Toward the Seven Sisters" line given the game generally avoids locating where the game is set, I suppose could be assumed that either this line was missed (it's not a super famous geological feature) or just not easily replaced.
the Seven Sisters are seven small wood churches in Revachol -- in the game version they mean something different than the (very prett) British location
@@Kurvits ah neat!
I thought they were referring to the Virgo constellation
Ancient Reptillian brain doing an amazing performance bravo!!!
