There is a really fun "live" version of this song. It was the song's premiere and it was a celebration for the marriage of Sweden's young King Carl XVI Gustaf and his bride Silvia, the night before their wedding. ABBA was in costumes of the Swedish court (like the late 1700s or early 1800s) and they sang the song for the new Queen Silvia. This was in 1976. King Carl and Queen Silvia are still together, and their daughter Victoria is the Crown Princess who will become Queen. The "Dancing Queen" was Queen Silvia of Sweden.
Was a dance first, then form of slang. JIVE: 1. a lively style of dance popular especially in the 1940s and 1950s, performed to swing music or rock and roll. 2. a form of slang associated with black American jazz musicians.
Jive is still a standard ballroom dance, danceable to a lot of pop/rock music. ua-cam.com/video/LMilE769YY8/v-deo.html Everyone doing dancing lessons in Europe (ie lots of 14yo all over central Europe and Scandinavia) learns it, even in the 2020s Note: white European Swedes of the 1980s dont use American slang much ... ;)
ABBA was unavoidable in the '70's. If you turned on the radio, you heard an ABBA song. They've taken a lot of flak for their Pop sound, but you just don't have that many hits and not have some good music sensibilities. Just like Blondie's "Heart of Glass," this song is from the disco era, and you can hear the influence in the music. This song brings back a lot of childhood memories, and you guys did a great job of reviewing it. Good Luck on the house!
