Ok I've started playing the update and oh my god it's incredible. before, it was honestly kind of boring, but now there's so much more diversity in the things that can evolve. Thank you for working so hard to bring us this update and i look forward for everything to come in the future.

Hi Leo, I try to never make any promises so I can change my mind without disappointing people (and I indeed change my mind all the time). Having said that, I like the idea of roughly following what players are interested in, and aquatic animals the most requested feature BY FAR ;)
hey quick question would semi procedural animations for eating and attacking be to much?
Hi Manny, good question, I am indeed unhappy with the current non-procedural eating and attacking animations... problem is that it would be a lot of work to get right, while it does not have a lot of impact for the player (it's just a visual thing for when you zoom in), so things like these never end up as a high prio thing on my todo list :/

Have thought about it yes, but I'm afraid managing it would eat too much of my development time. Not stopping anyone else from creating one, though!
ive noticed that the sandbox map has a teeny little problem, the plants spread out to far for simple organisms and there to slow to reach them fast enough
Hey EverLootion, slower animals are indeed hard to get right in larger levels, but there a few things you can do to make it work, like plants with a lot of offspring, making plants that only survive in a small part of the map, or giving the slow animals instincts.

Hey ArticFox, I'd love to, but it's not my focus right now. Also, I think only very small levels would be possible, as phones probably wouldn't be able to simulate thousands of organisms like PCs can ;)
The next update should be aquatic based with new parts mouths and systems like gills and oxygen and being able to switch from gills and lungs and fins webbed feet pelican beaks moisture for gilled creatures so if moisture is high enough and the gilled creature has the right parts it can go on high moisture land and creature should be able to get shells and there should be creatures living one other creature or just riding them but adding extra weight like the tree system but added weight
that would probably take a while, as u might have to (almost) completely rewrite the evolution system, as i think evolution works different in water

Good question! I was thinking the devlogs are kind of 'voice over heavy' already and I'm aiming at another type of audience with this trailer... but I recently saw a trailer for No Man's Sky that is really similar (in terms of format) but WITH voice overs naming the new features, and that worked rather well... so not sure what I'll do next time.
Can you please fix a glitch. I've been having a problem where whenver I edit a plant or animal a bunch of times, it duplicates all the plants makes it lag insanely.

add sea creatures and an ocean map. Even a ocean and land map combine
You should add insects but because of the sheer number there would probly be you could make them particle efects or just really simple so it doesn't lag out your game.

Hey David, definitely! Had the rough idea already decades ago before learning about Spore, but it was Spore that showed me it could be achieved in a fun way.

Huh I’m surprised that flight is something you can evolve before swimming
This update is great but I found a few bugs.
I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but when a creature is sitting on a plant and the plant dies, the animal disappears. I've tried to see if it's just on the ground but I don't think it goes back down, it just blanks out of existence.
When a creature climbs a tree that is growing, as the plant grows the creature grows to a crazy size as well and then both the plant and the creature disappear.
When there are too many entities, they tend to group up and all face one direction. I have multiple screenshots of this, and I have tested it multiple times and at the beginning of every simulation the creatures all move around but once there are a certain amount I always see them not moving and facing one direction all together. I can see their legs moving but they don't go anywhere. It can be annoying when nearly all of them start doing this and the one thing I know to fix it is to jump time, which usually ends up in them being extinct.
Hey ToBeNamed, thanks for your feedback and bug reports! Very helpful, much appreciated! I'll reply to your remarks one by one:
1. If a tree dies, any creatures in it die at well. In my head this made sense, but I agree the way it looks at the moment is mostly confusing... I'm thinking about putting the creature on the ground near where the plant died, but not 100% sure yet what would be best.
2. About climbing growing trees... wow, weird that I never 'caught' this one myself, but I already understand why this happens. It's on my todo list!
3. I actually also discovered this recently, and spend the morning trying to find a fix! Doing something about this is one of my high prio tasks right now, because it looks super weird indeed.

Update: I think I figured out the third problem, something with the procedural walking system not being added to all randomly generated creatures. My solution will be available in the next patch, which I'm trying to release tomorrow.

Love the game but even after the update i find it really hard to have predators bequase they are stupid they starve while standing next to food also sometimes then i make a creture and is ready to put it in my game craches i got a good cpu so that cant be it and a rtx 3060
Hey dream, thanks for reaching out, and sorry to read you had negative experiences with the game. As for the predators: did they have instincts and a food source of the right size? The greenhouse scenario should teach how to create successful predators step by step. As for the crashes: yes, there still seems to be a type of animal the animation system can't handle, but I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what it is... Do you remember what kind of creature you were making?

It's an idea I really like, but at the moment it's not really possible because the game is grid based... so the animals can't really stand closely together.
