love seeing the older rigs panels being dragged out. started my panel beating apprenticeship in 87 and was thrown into crash repairs as we did back then. thanks for the reminder
Great repair on the rear quarter panel and getting back in shape and getting the rust repair fixed definitely would like to see it finished thumbs up 👍👍👍👍
You certainly sorted out that old girl looks absolutely amazing With the bog bit I think you would remember back in the day we did bog onto clean steel And then wet sanded everything and obviously the bog was porous and the water went into the bog and onto the steel I think I stopped wet sanding anything except finished paint about twenty years ago 👍👍
I've had good luck with something called All-in-one by Claussen . It's a primer, epoxy rust proofer and hi build all in one (like the name might suggest) It sprays out fat and sands like talcum powder and you don't have to use a 2nd primer at all. I've even had luck with just the etch primer , people might no think it does because it's a single pack but it has epoxy in it so perfect as the first layer and sands beautifully too. Theres a couple of cars getting around that I painted over a decade ago like this that have no problems or corrosion with the paint.. enjoy.
Hi Howard and the spud with eyes😂, I love this vid showing a different side of the awesome skills you guys have, great content, can't not be a subscriber 👍👍👌😊
Quite like how these series go together. I’ve got a bunch of build photos from my project and am thinking I could probably do something similar with them to explain to friends how and where I am at with it.
Great job done on Coupe! When I first used POR-15 35 yrs. ago I found it only bonded to Rust, Clean prepped metal you could blow it off...You must know something I dont. Cheers!
Great vid Howard. A guy rear-ended my XH panel van years ago. Brother in law and I chained the bent-to-hell exhaust to the power pole outside my driveway (thanks Ausgrid), and I gently drove away and straighten it lol. Certainly not on the scale of that coupe's bent rear corner - amazing skills, mate! Did Boss XC make it to Motorex?
Great video once again , I do like these falcon coupes , good use of posts for pulling without a jig , A mate did an old fiesta in the 90s with a fence post to line up the front mount bonnet hinges so he could close the bonnet ....
Great job Howard from one beater to another these are skills being lost in new car repairs I was taught from a ww2 beater old steel is the best to work with
@@AstillDesign was better metal to work that's why I liked working at Southern rod and custom when I was younger modern metal is much different to work and tears like paper
Great to see another big bird brought back to life. Actually better than when it left the factory. I just want to plea with the owner. .............. Ok. Please Please Please Please..... x 100 .........don't paint it yellow again.!!!!! 🙏🙏🙏 Let her live her best life in any other colour. If your thought is 'but that's it's original colour' well you've already ditched the original vinyl roof (and rightly so). You're a few steps away from birthing a gorgeous XBGT clone. Maybe Red/Black, Blue/Black....White.....anything but yellow. 🙏🙏🙏😊
Nice work .. I find a big turn buckle is way more precise for doing skin damage rather than a come along or porto .. less chance of tearing the plate off ..👍
Great work, pleasure to watch! I have a question on replacement panels that are supplied in that black e-coat etc. Do you tend to strip this off the panel prior to applying epoxy? or do you find it bonds well to the coating with some prep and your happy to use it as a base?
We hit a concrete block on way down to HTA last year. Same side but not as much damage. Dinted bumper. Pushed top corner of bumper up through the recess it sits in. Bulged the tail light panel out. Pushed the top of quater panel up ( so the end sits flat now. Not angled in) Pushed the box section inside boot in. Mate might be purchasing a few panels off ya mate. Will you be Going down MM beach 2morra night for carshow ?
What did you do about those dreaded wheel tubs that meets quarter wheel arch edge. I know and of cause you know there will be rust under there. Would you just let rust converter down into those crevices , or is it good to cut those wheel arches out and get the rust that way . I know normally you remove that quarter panel so is this an option ..
Cleaned out all the sealer with a scribe and scraper. Paint in a good quality rust sealing paint. It is easier to remove the quarter than replace the wheel arch in my opinion
Can I ask a question, if doing an engine change , and you find the gearbox tunnel is a bit tight. Using a bottle jack and two pieces of wood, one either end could you use it to gently push the tunnell out enough to give clearance for a slightly fatter gearbox?
Great work as always, question how do you go with your neighbours with yours spray booth filtration system ie your on a nice block but not huge cheers 👍
Another great episode of content Howard thankyou mate.. So where do you purchase the rust get that you used with this car mate.. Amazing how with a bit of old school thinking and enginuity you got the quarter near perfect mate well done.. I do remember seeing segments on this a few yrs back now..
Thanks for another great video Howard. I had a running XB GS Coupe back in the 90s which I stupidly sold to a mate for the Princely sum of $2.5K. I still get knots in my stomach over that. Love to have another Coupe in my life though, but the stupid prices are getting further out of reach it seems. Anyways.. I'm really interested in a more deep dive into how you approach the de-skinning and re- skinning of the doors, boots and bonnets. Tips and tricks on how to safely bend the folds etc. Any chance you could start a workshop series on this and other things like metal shrinking to fix oil canning ? I do recall you touching on it with Boss XC, but I reckon a thorough workshop series would go down great for viewership and potentially more subs. Best Regards Tony God Bless and stay safe mate.

Give it a go, takes a bit of time to get the photos to flow so you can understand the process.
Great video Howard a loot of hard work....

Not sure about that, we find it extremely hard to remove when it’s somewhere we don’t want it.
Ditto. I don't use it now as I don't leave any rust behind
Very nice work

90% are coated in rubbish. The products from “better than NOS” are the exception the rest need to be stripped. We’re possible I supply in bare metal.

If you just push and not stretch the metal it will need to come from somewhere. A piece of flexible ply might make a neater job of it.
Sweet work. I'm in the US and have never seen a product called " Deoxidine" is that a brand name? When I Google it I get iron/steel smelting info.

Do you need to clean the Deoxidene off before you epoxy Howard?
The data sheet instructs to clean with metho water the apply expoxy within 2 hours
How much do xb coupe roofs go for? Got a couple of non creased ripples
Mate very rare and would be $8k-10k if you could find one.
Only Howard astill and his team can get this back to strength
Im sure there are plenty of good operators out there that would sort this out
