Poor merchant. One family left him, one family he was forced to sell and now a family eaten by wolves. I hope he has better luck with his fourth family.
You forgot he killed his mother as well
Yeah, he kind of encouraged his kids to go play in the dangerous areas so the adventurers could rescue them
Salright, the kids all survive, he's gone through a few wives though it seems.
nah there's just 50 or 60 Fred's throughout Azerim, each one more depressing than the last. some say that resolving all their problems will give you a +0.1 to charisma checks
which is why nobody bothers
@@weareharbinger914 I've gone through two wives, that was more than enough for me. More than that is just masochism or something.
Considering how long he has been cutting that tree…
His axe truly is as sharp as his mind
Best comment. 😂
"You have been chopping this tree FOR 20 YEARS! You haven't moved from this spot! You haven't chopped any wood!"
@@toseeupload8855 This time he moved and he has chopped wood! Development!
*cough* Sword Art Online *cough*
Woodcutter has either been moved into town, or the devs expanded the town so that he's now just outside it.
Woodcutter is sentient but he knows if he displays it he'll risk becoming a questgiver and that puts his family in danger. That's why he's gotta keep his axe sharp, but his mind sharper.
This is definitely my headcanon now
Or one of those Easter eggs or features where the NPC talks different when the NPC or Hamish isn't there or after the talk triggers a special dialogues
That would be a killer episode if the programmers find his family and woodcutter has to kick into action.
What family? He doesn't really have a wife and daughter. He doesn't have a home! If he allowed himself to become self-aware, he'd have to live with that knowledge, and the awareness that he's been trying to chop down a tree for 20 years without ever collecting any wood. Lesser things have driven men mad. Hu ha!
Baradun already tried to wake him up to sentience once.
Hamish has mastered the art of angry eyes and eyes that scream. He is truly a treasure. We must protect this Man
I was waiting for Balin to wander by and have a RIVITING conversation with the Woodcutter.
Nice day for fishing, ain't it?
Uh huh!
@@wealox Splendid day for a woodcuttin'.
To see the day they do a one off DnD with Baelin in the party.
10 hour Loop incoming 😂
Ben was about to tell Hamish he'd found his family 😂
I think he was
Outrageous.
The quest said 'save at least one', what do you mean you wanted them all back?
Ooorrrrr, buy a ba.nay.nay for a copper!! 😂
...deceased
"Yeah, that would be horrific" Is my new favorite line
It was subtle but i started cracking up immediately
I can many many ways I should use that in my "real world" life.
His axe is partly made from wood. So in a way the trees are, if not cutting themselves down, at least playing a role in it.
"These trees ain't gonna chop themselves". Judging by the impact that axe strikes are causing, these trees ain't gonna get chopped by him either.
Plot twist: This is a regular interaction between the two NPCs. Hamish's lines are programmed exactly like that by a bitter writer who learned they were laid off as they were writing NPC dialogue.
And voiced by Berry
😂 @@snarkysnarksson3002
Plot twist to the twist: it is actually a Woodcutter who is sentient.
@@d4slaimless I'm actually convinced he is to a point but what Baridun did to him hurt so badly Woodcutter actively suppresses it.
Being made redundant, as they are going to use AI to write all the dialogue and generate adventures.... Now that would probably be a good skit to work on, or even a series as the world of Azarim falls apart do to more and more bizarre quests and the NPCs become self aware and fight back against the adventurers, to the point were noone logs on to the game because the NPCs are now solving their own problems.
I haven't seen the woodcutter in so long
He's a busy man, those trees aren't going to chop themselves and he needs to keep his family warm with winter coming.
I'm still wondering where poor Baelin is. Please release Barlin from your dungeon, guys.
He's been down long enough.
So many cold winter nights 🥶
Baelin and Eugene have been missing too
Hes gotten a update tough. Diff location and actual cut wood around the woodcutting area ;)
I dont understand how Rowan can keep in character when Hamish is raging in his face. Almost feel like these are separate takes and put together flawlessly.
I don’t know if it was intentional but I saw that “dumb blank NPC thousand yard stare smile” fade a few times when Hamish got really intense.
@@TheShadowForgeStudioI mean, the look was very much part of the joke but “dumb” is not what it meant
I love the response when Ben taps Hamish on the shoulder, that would be hilarious in an actual game 🤣
*Sees two npc talking, one of them has a lil ! at the top of their heads*
oh cool new quest, probably a random encounter thing
*Taps on the shoulder* "FUCK OFF"
*quest updates: fuck off*
Poor Ben got rejected.. instead the npc are the one rejecting the quest
I'd love to see these kind of events in game. That would be fun.
He remembered the last time he was trying to interupt npc.
@@MrLachek ohhhh
@@MrLachekwhich one again? I forgot
@@fadillah6014 When an NPC is on their break
Hamish is so extra when he remembers his family problems and I love it 😂
Glad to see that after 23 years the Woodcutter moved on to a new tree.
It was time. That new tree was not going to cut itself down.
New fear unlocked : trees chopping themselves down plus whoever they see as treeworthy
"I can't have a neighbor who just says the same thing every f*cking day!"
Now, where is Baelin when you need him?
"Nice day for fishin', ain't it?"
I genuinely thought that Baelin would walk by at the end 😂
Hamish: "Thank you Baelin, that is so thoughtful. WHY CAN'T YOU BE MORE LOKE BAELIN!!?!"
Uh-huh
I did write an alternate version with Baelin at the end but it didn't play out as well as hoped.
Come to think of it, haven't seen much of him lately... did he use up all his minutes on the movie?
Great to see the woodcutter return. The fact that he seems to know more about Fred's family than he does about his own is not at all surprising of course. At least he finally moved for his original spot after 20 years. That's progress. 🤣
who's to say the town didn't move to accommodate recent expansions, and the devs didn't have the heart to touch the server's load-bearing woodcutter.
he's become a point of reference for so many coded in objects by accident that were he to be moved or removed the errors would surely harm the player experience and immersion due to a litany of visual phenomena.
Yeah, a few years ago there was a limited time quest that interacted with him, and now the game won't compile if they move him.
Yeah, moving him would remove the whole sub-node. Which are basically the entire modern honeywood. You know, the Theseus ship. Except Woodcutter is the only node left in the engine. Moving or deleting him will simply mess up the whole honeywood region.
If he have information about Fred's family. Either he got a good informant or he traveled for miles, around azerim, searching for his family and he found Fred's by chance.
See, my assumption is that they just duped the npc so they could have the woodcutter in his original spot and in Honeywood. No need to design a new npc model when you can just reuse existing assets.
Can’t believe they brought back Woodcutter- at least he was updated with new lines 😂
Addendum: We all need a Bald Greg in our lives
Rowan: These trees aren't gonna chop themselves down
Hamish: No that would be horrific!
Me: Thanks for the new nightmare guys !
Well, these trees aren't going to chop themselves down.
Well, these trees aren't going to chop themselves down.
Well, these trees aren't going to chop themselves down.
Well, these trees aren't going to chop themselves down.
Morning, nice day for fishing ain't it. Hu-hah!
I need to keep my axe sharp but my mind sharper
"I need to keep my axe sharp, but my mind sharper" i bet that's the only thing he learned from his conversation with the necromancer who tried to make him self aware...
It was not a necromancer, it was High Sorcerer Baradun, in his old costume.
Baradun is against necromancy, he even did an ad. Necromancy? Not even once!
@@verhalenvrouwe All the greatest sorcerers are closet necromancers.
Hamish always has the best intensity. His ability to go from calm to foaming at the mouth rage is amazing.
It's nice to see that the woodcutter has been able to move from the spot he was stuck on for 20 years.
"I cant have a neighbor who says the same thing every fucking day"
My neighbors and I everytime we see each other:
"Hey, how are you?"
"Its alright. How are you?"
"Cant complain"
"Great, have a nice day!"
Nice day for fishing aint it!!!!
Um......I've had a lot of conversations just like that....sometimes there just isn't more to say, sadly.
I feel like "Splendid day for woodcuttin'" is gonna be the new 'nice day for fishin''
ain't it, huh ha?
i think that was intentional. rowans always good at doing the looping dialogoue
I think the woodcutter came before Baelin. So it's the other way around.
woodcutter is actually an old character, just been a while since they made a sketch with him, only 1 before, if ur new u prob dont know hence think it would be a good replacement anachronistically.
nothing beats a nice for fishin.
I am so glad they brought Woody back! I love how you can tell he's just borderline sentient, but just not quite there... his first skit still pulls on my heart strings, you really have a wide acting range Rowan.
Seriously, you can tell the PC's know not to mess with Fred. Polite tap on the shoulder, jumped out of his skin when he realized Fred was in a bad mood, probably made some posts about it to warn the other PC's to stay away and give Fred time to cool off...
Greg is spreading his disease of sentience!
It’s happening… the awareness is growing!
I like to think the interaction with Baradun changed the woodcutter.
I love how Hamish becomes so angry about this. And insensitive Ben's appearance is just OUTRAGEOUS! OUT! RAGE! OUS!
Hamish made a brief appearance on a show called Creamerie.
@@anthonystone2089 Oh wow, I'm going to have to go back and rewatch that. First season?
What if Ben was about to tell him he'd found his family's location and was going to get them?

@@PalleRasmussen HA! He's got like 8 kids, a wife and a mother. As usual it sucks for Fred
Hamish losing it again😂. I love how he goes from big smiles to full on intensity in seconds. 👍
Greg ain't the only self-aware NPC anymore.
Cant wait for Baelin and Woodcutter to have a Skyrim/Oblivion conversation.
Mr. Woodchopper keeps running into people tying to make him self aware xD
Next will be Tinfoil NPC
Keep him away from Greg.
I hate it when the other npcs develop self awareness slower than me. It is a nice day for fishing though.
How Rowan can make his eyes so expressive is incredible acting
I've actually missed this character. Nice to see he's back.
I love how Ben shows up only for Fred to immediately tell him to f off 😂
It's about time. Hopefully Fred will remember it.
1800s lumberjack flannel, medieval fruit vendor clothing, 19th century siding & pane glass.

Something about Hamish having a breakdown is immensely entertaining
Him and Adam...imagine a video with BOTH of them having a breakdown
I love the idea of NPCs who can only talk in certain lines to be able to express any emotion or response, and you just need to learn what they mean in context.
1:42ish. Had to stop here to replay the rare and beautiful moment of Ben getting barked at. Doesn't happen often, that's why I'm savouring it. 😌
I would so love and NPC to swear at me while walking up to them. It would catch you off guard! 🤣🤣🤣

@@lunotarr right?? 😂😂😂 when I played as a child I was like WHY do they hate me so much?? :D
Hamish does so well with angry characters or nice characters!!!
Two sides of the same coin; it is being nice that causes someone to get angry because loss of temper is a dambreaking.
He's never really got over being forced to buy that glittery skull of Rahul.
Hamish is one true legend, man. He have mastered all kind of emotions. The silly, the thoughtful, the angry, the calm, the caring, the careless, ruthless, kind....... he can literary do all kind of stuffs. Massive respect to this guy.
I would so love for an NPC to react that way to a player who came up and tried to talk.
You should do a skit where he has to deal with Baelin and the woodcutter
Where they glitch out and aggro each other, but their both immortal, and take out anyone who gets near...
Lol. Ben's reaction was priceless! And hey... Looks like NPCs self awareness is spreading. Haven't seen the woodcutter since that skit, but now he looks like he's kind of learning!
I see. The woodcutter finally finished the other tree. And now he is on this one for the next 20 years.
Hamish absolutely losing it is hilarious and just what I needed right now. Ben's face as Fred yelled at him is perfect.
Heck yes the WOODCUTTER IS BACK
I need a breather
Greg plushie is future-proof.
😂 ouch
I suspect NPCs are self aware when alone, however some don't realise they no longer are when talking to people.
Hamish's outbursts are comedy gold 😂
This woodcutter must be Baelin's not-too-distant cousin.
remember do keep your axe sharp, but your mind sharper kids
It boggles my mind how hamish isn’t in every skit
The pain anger and frustration expressed in this video is palpable. You just want to be heard, I get it. The Greg plushie seems cool.
Loved Ben's role in this one. =)
Unhinged Hamish is always gold
If you string all of the Epic NPC Man videos together, you get a horror story about the characters in an MMO gradually awakening to sentience and testing the boundaries of their programming.
Hamish almost had himself a Greg level breakdown.
Poor Ben didn’t even do anything wrong for ounce
He was about to announce what wrongdoing he did, but Fred didn't let him finish. Ben always does this kinda shit, it's his programmed default despite being a "player"
@@billlodhia5640 Would have been funny if Ben had just saved Fred family and was coming back to tell him.
I was expecting Bodger to comment about how the Bodger Plushies sold out ages ago but you can indeed still get the Greg Plushie.
Well, you see, he needs the wood back at the cabin for the fire, to keep his family warm for the winter.
"One must imagine Rowan happy"
Look honey the game NPC interact with each others
I would love if NPC's just yelled curses at me and to go away every once in a while. Perhaps if you keep bugging them or always sell to them until they are out of gold, or just because of the situation they might be in.
"Mornin'. Nice day for fishin', ain't it? Hua ha."
Ben's jolt of surprise was perfection, and leaves me wondering more than ever how often players come across NPCs having "off" days.
And if Fred had spoken to the adventurer, he could have completed the quest and his family returned safe and sound.
Ain't it a nice day for fishing?
This poor merchant just can't catch a break, but I wonder if we'll ever meet the woodchopper 's family
I definitely thought Woodcutter was going to drop some epic lore there
That ending ... Well, need to clean up my keyboard now. (I mutter to myself as I keep laughing: "Never drink anything whilst watching VLDL EVER!" )
Hamish's NPC is the single poorest guy in entire Honeywood😢
VLDL could make a poor Hamish compilation at this point
What an offer! We can torment plushie Greg whenever we want, rather than waiting for a new Epic NPC video to do it for us
Ben the adventurer: *appears,
gets yelled at to f* off,
leaves,

Mornin' nice day for choppin aint it! huha!
Hamish needs his own movie please. Maybe where he goes in search of a wizard who can turn back time to bring back his family. But it turns out he is in a Groundhog's Day situation and when he gets them back he just looses them again. Rinse and repeat!
Ben's reaction was perfect. Wonder if he knew that amount of emotion was going to spill out from poor Fred.
Very convincing "startled from man unexpectedly shouting in your face" reaction from Ben
That's one of the best episodes to date! Well done! Pure Westworld vibes
How does VLDL keep pumping out so many new ideas, keep it up!!!!!
Maintenance needs to come check on that Fruit Vendor, he's saying all sorts of weird things.
Hamish is only interested in the woodcutter's family because he's wondering if he can sell any of the children on the black market

A classic reborn
-Tell me about your family, WOOD ya?

Amazing delivery and holy shit yes it would!
*NPC grunts*
The original woodcutter is one of my favorite of all VLDLs. Hamish is a joy as always on screen.
This event seems like a good place to start a sidequest of bringing these two to peace. For example a fetch quest that changes the woodcutter's location and script loop upon completion.
Hahaha. Rowan's dumb, blank expression made me lose it. Just gazing through Hamish as he's being yelled at.
Beautiful
