The tall walls actually fit the whole "Louisiana" theme. We thoroughly enjoy tall ceilings here. It helps to mitigate the heat, because of us being all subtropical and stuff.
The tall wall heights were correct for New Orleans style houses. I’ve lived in a few of them. They have high ceilings and long windows. You made a modernized shot gun house, which a lot of people did after hurricane Katrina. love your builds and let’s plays. 🤗
I think Willowcreek is forcing James into his Blue Suburban era 🤣🤣 Loving the refreshes!! Can I inspire you with a build idea when you go back to Oasis Spring? An Adobe style house! I built one recently and the base game is BUILT for it hahaha
Crick Cabana is definitely my favorite starter, I use it all the time when I don't feel like building my own. It has a super flexible layout and theres enough room you can even start an early family in it.
For me, as a real life architect, this thing the Sims has with using different window level is really painful to watch and do nothing, so I super enjoy watching you do it while I work, thanks for your content!

Your tip on how to expand the house blew my mind. When adding onto a house I have never thought to move a room out and make a hallway. I always felt like I had to just add to the existing walls. 😅 Thats the beauty of watching other players build. Learn things you never knew you never knew. ❤
1:58 I love this house only because it reminds me of some of the townhouses near where i grew up and yes some of those weird townhouses came complete with windows at completely different heights. It’s like that one really run down house in the street
Petition to stop the budgetting. Its fine to make it 20k max. Since thats the starter money you get. I dont like seeing what could be and then having to see it changed out for junk 😢
Problem is, while you can spend Up to 20K Max, you do need Simoleans left over for Bills, so I'd say leave atleast a few Hundred in your account otherwise you wouldn't have enough to pay bills, or to get food, Power and Water could potentially be shut off one by one, and if for some reason you still cannot pay after 48 hours of water being shut off. Items get Repossessed (The reason to break 20K Would be if the household moving into the house is larger since each additional sim beyond the first adds extra money)
The refresh looks much better! But just IMO wood paneling in bathrooms & kitchens where there’s water just feels so illegal to me. I do love some wood paneling tho!
So early and, despite owning all packs, so excited to see you build a base game starter with this update I’m still bummed the windows don’t have wood swatches but I love these items!!
So I go straight from watching delis update to this video and I wasn’t quite awake enough for James‘s greeting… I love you, James your enthusiasm is beautiful! 💛💛
I am LOVING these refreshes! It does make me wonder who on the sims team made these original houses and if they feel it every time someone roasts the sad builds can't wait to see you refresh a house with a large budget because these new base game items are amazing
This is the first starter home I ever used. Since my sim was a loner sim, I modified it. I kept the kitchen where it was, split the 2nd bedroom into 2 rooms for a master bath and a small dining room, and I took the other bathroom and turned it into an arched office from the main bedroom.
I'm shocked the windows dont have wood swatches. I was so hyped because of the customisation possibilities, but i mainly use wood swatches for windows. i dont understand why 😭
I agree with you regarding the windows and the wall height but the rest looks very similar to the old house to be honest, just some new items in a 10+ year old game.
Great video! The budget being a part of the challenge makes things interesting. Looks much better with short wall height. I love medium wall height but it doesn't work well for skinny/small houses.
I actually don't like the newer pricing to be honest. To me it contributes to how incredibly easy the sims 4 is that you have to work SO hard to give it any challenge to keep it interesting. Specially with so many people playing older sims titles these days, it reminds me how uninteresting the live mode gameplay loop has gotten. Love the items though they look cute!
"Sims 4 fires aren't that bad" Meanwhile I had a sim I put so much work into and had a whole backstory for her; I started the game and was telling my husband about her backstory when she autonomously went to make a SALAD and it CAUGHT ON FIRE(?!!!!?!?!) and then she caught on fire and DIED! 😂 I've been playing The Sims since the very beginning so you'd think I'd always remember a fire alarm but I certainly do now after that crazy incident.
The reason the wall height is taller is because New Orleans styile builds tend have taller wall heights. It’s true to the architecture. Lowering the wall heights diminishes the authenticity of shotgun houses and New Orleans architecture. I’m always irked when I watch renovation vids and they take away what makes the original design authentic. A typical American house is 9-10 foot ceiling. A New Orleans style home like shotgun homes are around 12-14feet high. I don’t understand this weird thing sims builders have with wanting wall heights short across the board.
Yeah I do know they are taller, I think the problem in Sims and the reason it usually looks so much worse is because there isn’t the right windows or doors to fit nicely. The wall papers also don’t look particularly nice or properly detailed at taller heights. I’d prefer it looks nice in game then have a taller wall that whilst it may be more accurate to the the real world inspiration ends up looking bad because we don’t have the items and decor to make it work properly.
@ I agree on that. The sims need to mirror content for each wall height vs having a tiny selection for medium and high walls. I personally love building with authentic architecture in mind and limitations in the sims makes it extremely hard.
I agree that it looks technically better with the shorter walls, but I also agree that for these three houses in this neighborhood the medium walls would have been more authentic to the New Orleans concept 😊 I hope the third house renovation in this neighborhood will have medium walls!
Everyone wants shorter walls because the taller walls look dumb. That's really what it comes down to. The game doesn't have the right assets to do tall walls, so everything looks really tiny and the walls end up looking bare. It also lacks the architectural details that fill in that space.
That kids room feels way too big and that master is weirdly long. So I would've split the master to have the bathroom in the back, make the kitchen just a odd straight line to make more room for a dining table, and shrunk the kids room a tile to make a the living space a little larger.
I refreshed this house without the update, with the same budget i put kids stuff/skills, garden boxes and chess table. The sims builds are so useless expensive 😂
The sims and I sharing a birthday will always be my favorite because it’s like a birthday gift from my favorite game 🥳
Happy birthday 🎉🎂
A birthday gift with a hefty price tag
Me too, honored to share a bday with such a legend. Happy birthday to us 🎆❤️
Happy Birthday to all of you 🎉😊
Oooh happy birthday!
The tall walls actually fit the whole "Louisiana" theme. We thoroughly enjoy tall ceilings here. It helps to mitigate the heat, because of us being all subtropical and stuff.
Agreed! I was thinking I feel like the middle height walls definitely look more authentic to this style of home
The tall wall heights were correct for New Orleans style houses. I’ve lived in a few of them. They have high ceilings and long windows. You made a modernized shot gun house, which a lot of people did after hurricane Katrina. love your builds and let’s plays. 🤗
I think Willowcreek is forcing James into his Blue Suburban era 🤣🤣
Loving the refreshes!! Can I inspire you with a build idea when you go back to Oasis Spring? An Adobe style house! I built one recently and the base game is BUILT for it hahaha
The in-game sims economy has had reverse inflation with the door and window prices
Did James catch the Lilsimsie fever? Cuz this sure is a BLUE suburban house lol
Yea, LilSimsie gave James the BlueSuburbanitis
Crick Cabana is definitely my favorite starter, I use it all the time when I don't feel like building my own. It has a super flexible layout and theres enough room you can even start an early family in it.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate how awesome James is? Seriously, great work as always

The only thing I wish they had given us was more basegame beds. Or just more swatches of the basegame beds 😭
That "happy Birthday" was so wholesome and sweet 🥺🥺❤️
1:58 I love this house only because it reminds me of some of the townhouses near where i grew up and yes some of those weird townhouses came complete with windows at completely different heights. It’s like that one really run down house in the street
Petition to stop the budgetting. Its fine to make it 20k max. Since thats the starter money you get. I dont like seeing what could be and then having to see it changed out for junk 😢
I like it being part of the challenge of these refreshes. Lots of bigger budgets coming up soon :)
I too love sticking to the budget, it makes it difficult and also affordable fof the Sims I hate but need to keep in game 😇
I like the challenge of staying to the budget, but I also agree that up to 20 k is reasonable too 😊 A mix of strategies is nice
@@Impersonable 😧

Crick Cabana is my go to starter home. Best bang for your buck
I like that the new windows match the sneeking out window from high school years.
James you are the first simmers on UA-cam that I've watched!! HBD The Sims!
The refresh looks much better! But just IMO wood paneling in bathrooms & kitchens where there’s water just feels so illegal to me. I do love some wood paneling tho!

James! I think you should challenge yourself and use the other swatches for that starter double bed. 😊
I am LOVING these refreshes! It does make me wonder who on the sims team made these original houses and if they feel it every time someone roasts the sad builds can't wait to see you refresh a house with a large budget because these new base game items are amazing
I couldn't wait to see you refresh with the new stuff :). Maybe try a more expensive home next?
Thanks for all you do, James!

6:55 we do have a window like that but it's in high school years
wish they had added the functionality of climbing out to these
I wish the kitchen and living room were swapped with the dining table in the bay window ❤️
It looks so much better! Nice work! 🎉
I'd love for the next house to be super green like the OG one!! Enough with the blue XD So excited
HBD Sims! 🎉
The old base game carpet is now relegated to being popcorn ceilings in dated and builder grade builds LoL
The debug mailbox is so cute and I wish it worked xD
Great refresh!
The Sims and I have the same Birthday!!!
That was a wholesome "Happy birthday!" lol Good to see another video James, thank you !
Happy Birthday to the sims and I!!!!
I am loving this build series. I've been replacing the houses in my save and it's turning out gorgeous.
Love it soooooo much!! Thanks James!! Your builds are always so thought out and perfect.
This lot/house was the first I ever used in Sims 4! I’ve been playing Sims since the original, back when I absolutely too young to be playing it. 😂
I'm shocked the windows dont have wood swatches. I was so hyped because of the customisation possibilities, but i mainly use wood swatches for windows. i dont understand why 😭
love the budget as the challenge, and maybe as a treat for yourself one of the lots can be refreshed without the budget
I wish the new stuff was marked as being new, I looked today and had no idea what was added. I had to look the update up to see pictures.
Even though I’m not the biggest fan of blue I still enjoy watching these videos! It’s making me want to go in and do some too.
i actually really loved the dark wall with the light tile! still love the end result though
James I've been watching you since your Sims 3 days and I just wanted to say thank you for all the videos!
Definitely hoping for you to do the neighbourhood with the Caliente's in next!
Lol. James going full-blown LilSimsie blue suburban is amusing to me.
I agree with you regarding the windows and the wall height but the rest looks very similar to the old house to be honest, just some new items in a 10+ year old game.
Watched you for many many years now, so happy you’re still making videos 😊
My birthday is the day after the Sims. Happy Birthday to the Sims. Thanks for the videos James. Always enjoy them.
Great video! The budget being a part of the challenge makes things interesting.
Looks much better with short wall height. I love medium wall height but it doesn't work well for skinny/small houses.
time to grab a dinner and watch another building vid! love love love! ♥
Happy Birthday to the Sims! Can't wait to see the Beige Semaj family in the new event!
Can't wait to see you do Umbrage Manor
Loving this series so much! It's very chill and inspiring to watch :D
6:28 anyone in Gluon's chat yesterday: you sure thought that James 👀🧐
It’s currently my birthday, so the “Happy birthday!!!” intro really threw me for a moment haha
The Sims are feeding their fanbase 🎉
I’m so excited to see all the new stuff, thanks James!❤
Damn I'm so early today
Me too 😁!!!
I love your videos and how excited you are about building, haha 💗 Can't wait to watch this one! ✨
James, I just want to say that your videos always brighten up my day!
This was the first house I played in back in the day QvQ
While they're rolling out new updates maybe they should be re-pricing things to be standardized lol
re: 2:25 and the cheaper new doors
That's asking too much.
I wonder if the price adjustment because 10 years ago they thought the pricing seemed perfect for a silly game then it became all too true.
I personally like “happy big wallet doors” more than happy birthday 😂
Tall wall height is the way, I absolutely hate feeling cramped with a low ceiling.
you inspire me so much, legend!
New subscriber! I really enjoy your channel and humor. 😊

Now do a super nice base game with all the new stuff!
Never been this early! Love your videos James!!

I wish I could get a house like this for $11 768…
i cant believe my eyes did james leave the original roof tiles?!
Love the t-shirt!! Where is it from?
Love your videoes but that fridge and trashcan not switching places so that the fridge is in the corner is making me unrationally annoyed
Hi Jameeeeeeeeees
🎉
Is there a filter to see only the new items?
(Except “base game only”)
When thay say 70 new items do they count every swatch as one?
No, there was also CAS stuff
James doing the lords work 🙏🏼
1am james????

@ no they don’t. You just don’t know how to build
Hi🎉
You've heard it here first: 🗣️ Toiletpaper is not a necessity! 🗣️
Help!what should I buy: Life and Death.......or GTW+City Living?
GTW and City Living
That kids room feels way too big and that master is weirdly long. So I would've split the master to have the bathroom in the back, make the kitchen just a odd straight line to make more room for a dining table, and shrunk the kids room a tile to make a the living space a little larger.
I had a similar idea. I hate pointless hallways in houses and the weird hourglass shape this house has with the rooms where they are.
If you’re already making a lilsimsie blue suburban, why not shrink the build while you’re at it? 🤷♀️
I refreshed this house without the update, with the same budget i put kids stuff/skills, garden boxes and chess table. The sims builds are so useless expensive 😂
WOOOO
25 years and 11 of those years are for one game. 🤦♂️
W video
dont stick to the budget anymore please
Dang! Not first
First!
First 😄
Full base game yet it removes 24 objects when I place their saying I don’t own them?
The sims 4 is still awful, wish people would stop settling so they actually make something good
James, please keep feeding me content. I’m full 🥹
I am loving this build series. I've been replacing the houses in my save and it's turning out gorgeous.
