I procrastinate going to the bathroom, I still have my wedding thank you cards from 2 years ago that I haven’t yet sent out, in college I had final papers to write for philosophy and I waited till the last minute even though I knew I had to have my tonsils removed the day before they were due (I woke up from anesthesia and wrote 3 papers). This is my whole life.
I’m laying here about 3:30 and ohhh my!!! I am a huge procrastinator! I am so overwhelmed with divorce, moving and everything is upside down!! Thank you!!!!!
Thanks for this, Mel. It's so helpful to hear you and your guests talking through procrastination. Like others, I was shocked to see how long the video was. Normally I would skip anything this long, but this problem is so central to my life right now, and so paralyzing on so many fronts, I was determined to watch all the way through it at one sitting. The doctor at the end was so crucial to summarizing the importance of all the rest. Her experience was very dramatic, but it left me with a mental picture of what could happen to me -- or any of us -- if we don't deal with the backpacks we carry, whether they are stuffed full of stress or shame or fear. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for such an important video.
1. Forgive yourself. Procrastination is a coping mechanism. "I must be really stressed out." 2. Recognize it and ask what's stressing you out. 3. What does the future you want you to do right now? Break the cycle with the 5 second rule.
Sending you lots of Love! You are an angel of a loving Heavenly Father! I knew deep inside is that bitting myself and calling unworthiness, shame doesn’t help. What helps is loving myself through this and asking myself why the sensation or behavior. What am I stressed or worry about
haha I find it so funny how a man who didn‘t clean his background and quickly jumps to conclusion, tries to teach me something about procrastination but maybe he‘s his own study project and provides me with 0-to first data
I agree that you should start with micro actions. But this content needs to be brought up to a more realistic level. By way of example you manage to start writing a little blog and post it. But you get hardly any views. After managing to post a blog for a few days you are getting a few more views and one or two comments. Four days in now you start getting negative comments and you blog post starts filling up with spam comments even more than the positive ones. Now you have a new problem on top of your original thinking procrastination. What to do about that. Now you procrastinate more. The thinking loop is only the first part of the procrastination cycle, the second stage of procrastination is the negative results and unforeseen circumstances that you meet along the way. The brain is built for survival and is always scanning for danger, it remembers that last attempt you made to get out of procrastination and you started with your micro action and remembers when you stopped taking the action because something ugly happened, even when the action you took was tiny. The other part of overcoming procrastination is also to purposely expose yourself to the negative outcomes, so you learn to tolerate them. And then you have something based in the reality of your own experience to help you overcome future procrastinations. I am probably the odd one out here, but micro actions on their own did not help me to overcome procrastination, my brain just doesn't work like that. It has an extremely strong survival instinct as such, It takes me years for me to learn to push myself, even if I am doing the thing every day. Its not overwhelm its real life events that get in the way of what you are trying to achieve.

Deep sigh of relief as I heard Step 1. Okay, ready to learn the next steps.
"My form of GAMBLING is to see how far I can go." That hit home, Mel.

Motivation
I need to watch this but 90 minutes ??? I’m adhd !
I couldn't get through this video with all the constant ads/interruptions. Very frustrating.
Unfortunately, you have to pay for a UA-cam subscription to not get the ads.
FROZEN PEOPLE
