Word up! He's one artist I never tire of, ever since my high school days, back in 1980-something! I love this version of the song. I went to h.s. with his widow. She & Tom were so happy.
For anyone wondering the type of guitar, It's a Zemaitis 12 string with the heart sound hole and custom headstock. Not a cheap guitar in the slightest hehe.
I think that's George Harrison's guitar, which would make sense since TP was in London. There are many pics of George playing it over the years and Dhani has played it in concerts as well, like the Concert for George. Beautiful guitar.
I am 53 years old.....in first grade on the first day of music class.....the teacher played the REFUGEE album...She as did I.......fell in love with this mans music....
This is my favorite TP song by far! It also sounds wicked awesome when I play this on my Guild D-1212 12-string!! Tom.....you are loved & missed by millions!!
I remember this song from my dad playing the record, yes record, in the 90's. Forgot about it for 25 years then heard it on my playlist in the shower. Now I play and sing this song everyday on guitar. It's just a great song.
He's truly missed by his fans that he loves so much. He practically gave his life for them instead of getting his much needed hip replacement. He was in so much pain that he accidentally over did it on the pain meds, RIP brother Tom!
Wow, only 94 comments. Who's still listening to this greatness in the 2020's/2021's? I wish the radio would play more of these greats instead of the same 10 ozzy/ac/dc songs over and over again.
“The band missed the bus today”😂 His acoustic gigs always spotlight how truly great he was even stripped down to his voice & guitar Check out his performance in 1984 The Bridge School fundraiser. Thank you for posting this - never saw it!!💕
Tremendous American talent. This guy, Bob Seger, Billy Squire, Bob Dylan, Glen Frey, and a few more. THese guys could stand alone and put on a complete concert / show, each one, all by themselves.
Lovely! Much as I love TPATH I am always excited to see Tom solo. What a great musician and not always appreciated for it. This is a great rendition. Thank you for posting x
I come back to this video time and time again. Recently, I saw his wife Dana comment that Tom had a dream of traveling around to play acoustic shows in smaller venues. Sigh 😢
Hi! Thank you for the video, great one. Gone too soon, Rest In Peace Tom Petty. Love the music. Greatfull for videos of him left for us to enjoy. Take care, stay safe. ☺️ ✌️ 🖖 😷
That is a Zematis 12 String Superior Plus - very rare $20,000 or more if you can find one. I wonder if that was his or if someone loaned it to him for the show. I have only seen reference to one for sale made in 1986.
I suspect it was just one band member (Howie) who failed to turn up for the ride to the studio. Of course Tom, being a pro, pulls off a great performance on his own. He should have done an acoustic tour, either solo or just he and Benmont.
The world was a brighter place when Tom Petty gifted us new songs.
I miss Tom Petty. Hope he's smiling wherever he is right now.
He went back to Square One.
He's learning to fly

Very nice blog. “Sweet “✌️

Mine too
I took in a dog a month after his death and named him Tom. Tom PetMe. Rip to the master of song writing.
I sing this song to my dog whenever he's been bad. Best thing I ever had. :)
You are a kind heart and genius. Love this.
Brilliant!

As a Tom Petty Fan and a Las Vegas native, October 1st is difficult to get through. God bless one of the greats.
Legend!

Shawn Harnett Mine too. I’d like to hear you play it.
It’s one of the first songs I learned on guitar
He actually borrowed that from George Harrison
Beautiful! And the heart-shaped sound hole of his guitar just put a knife through MY heart!
...pretty sure that's George's custom Zemaitas (sp).
This song came on the radio on a rainy night after I put my dog down. I'll never forget it. Love Tom Petty and love my Murphy monster

Great Song, Thanks Tom !!!
He came up with the beautiful concepts, and put an awesome band behind it and look what you get....miss him very much.
I've never seen this before! This song is a classic as is all of "Full Moon Fever"!
That album will always be the best album of all time
Everything this man ever wrote is a classic
I do think that is my favorite album
Wonderful! Thank god we have his music.
He sounds so damn good solo but I can still hear the band behind him for some reason. Never saw this! Thanks for uploading

That lovely, giant Zematis guitar! Tom is gone but he left his light on for us!
His death was one of the greatest blows to rock and roll in history.
It shook the universe!
Truly an incredible artist. Love this man’s music!
Alguien más escuchándolo en plena víspera de fiestas navideñas año 2024????😊
My fave songwriter : )
After going back and forth listening to this and the original 50 times the last two weeks I've decided this is better than the original.
Tremendous American talent. This guy, Bob Seger, Billy Squire, Bob Dylan, Glen Frey, and a few more.
THese guys could stand alone and put on a complete concert / show, each one, all by themselves.
This my first song at my wedding
So nice to see (and hear) Tom play the guitar....love the end!
Gosh, it's beautiful.
Fantastic Raw Tom👍👍😎 Man what a Man!🎩💘
Miss ya Tom❤
Never saw this video - how amazing would it have been to sitting across from him why he plays this song (or any song!)?
Oh man, that's Beatle George's guitar -- glorious! Find you a friend who loves you so well they'll loan you their custom Zemaitis 12-string.
I was wondering what guitar that was
Yes it is. They were great friends.
Love that 12 string
this is so dylan! i love it Tom Petty
Tom's vocal intonation was very similar to Dylan n his ''65 - '67 period. The vowels! I also love it!
Truth.
@@viviave8 Cool! )
Except Dylan was a great songwriter but shitty vocalist and performer. Tom excelled at everything.
@@williammcdonnell5645as if you know anything about singing and performance .
It's like an acapella isolated studio version, incredible!
The world is worse off without you, Mr. Petty.
whoever hit 'thumbs down' was drinking too much and missed.
buhahahahaha
2:49 it about Dana
Wonderful, I'm just starting to listen to this guy
You are in for a treat, so many brilliant songs, the man was all heart ❤

Tom is unbelievably good. He and his songs are wonderful. Also a great man. I will never stop listening. 🤩💖

ROCK ON PETTY! 😇
So amazing to sing along with Petty on this one, solo means I'll do the back up vocals. Tom & Tom. 🤠
Probably my favorite track on the album.
So pshyched to find it acousticly.

Just picked up a Zemaitis metal front. You talk about art work. Tony "Z" was a hell of a luthier. Miss him too.
Loaned to him by Harrison.

Listening to this cos of Josh Turner Guitar, he does a sensational cover of this..

Love Tom.....Also love that mahogany 12 string 🥰 Anyone recognize the luthier/manufacturer?
Looks like a Zemaitis Acoustic...
I’m pretty sure it was purchased at Norm’s
Beautiful whatever it is
I've seen pictures of George Harrison with a very similar guitar....
@@jasonrowsell3211 It was George’s guitar. Tom was in England and borrowed it for his BBC gig.
Fuck yes !!!!!
He sounds just as good here as the final recording
The beauty of no autotune..back in toms day you either had it or you didn't
I knew I wouldn't be disappointed it's Tom Petty!
I love this!! ❤
God luck to you God bless you

Better than the album version!!! Brings back memories driving with this cassette blasting in the car!!!

Beautiful, talented, gorgeous Tom. So messed-up due to lousy childhood and vile abusive father.
Good song. This isn’t what I meant when I searched ‘Tom petty solo’ lol

The george Harrison Guitar
Just now realized he plays this song on a 12 sting....no wonder i could not achieve that sound with my normal 6 sting.
cool!
Wicked

Anybody know what kind of guitar that is? Zemaitis maybe?
Zemaitis it is, sounds good for sure
It’s actually George Harrison’s
