Lucy, for a seasoned, 20-yr veteran, theatre artist to do a performance like this, well this is an outstanding performance, no doubt! For a 14-yr old to do a performance like this with NO musical or theatre experience, well..........this borders on the supernatural........
Lucy sang this beautifully on March 5th during the first half of the best concert I’ve attended in my 74 years, and I’ve attended many, many concerts even performed in a few - thank you Lucy just for being you.

Yes John , Lucy is absolutely fantastic, but I find that it is ridiculous that in some of these videos that they put together supposedly show the best singers of a particular song, and Lucy has performed all of the songs by far the best, but Lucy is not mentioned in any of them , whoever puts the lists together should be ashamed of themselves and they should be named and shamed,they are absolute idiots
@@lesparker5605 Les, I think thats because of one or two reasons. One they have not heard Lucy's version. or two they are bias for some reason. when I see this situation I comment "you left out the best one of all, Lucy Thomas. We, her fans need to make people aware of her extraordinary talent.

I have listened to all the other top vocalist sing this and they all seem to overpower it. Lucy is the only one who sings it with empathy, softness, longing, despair, gut wrenching emotion. Others seem to have a performance. Lucy, even at 14, sings it with feeling. It is a totally different song when she sings it, just perfect.
YES! 1 BILLION percent YES! This is the 'magic' of Lucy; even at 14, such power, intensity, passion, and emotion in her vocals, facial expressions, and demeanor.......I'm a grown 59 yr old man and I shed some serious tears.......to many Lucy masterpieces, so much emotion in every performance.......no one is EVEN remotely close to Lucy!

I only discovered the phenomenon that is Lucy Thomas earlier this year. Her technical ability, breath control, clarity and diction is amazing. Every song she has recorded is in my humble opinion a masterpiece but I come back time and time again to this beautiful rendition of 'She used to be mine'. Like others I have listened to many recording of this song - none have the empathy, understanding and awareness that Lucy brings to it. I am in awe that a 14 year old can get into the soul of this waitress. There are many comments of the wonderful support Lucy receives - I've not seen one for her voice coach who deserves huge plaudits. God bless you Lucy and your family
Well, let's give credit where credit is due: Lucy's vocal coach, for the past 12 years, is Carolyn Hudson, and she is obviously phenomenal! I agree with everything you have said! Lucy's vocals are perfect here; the tone, her vibrato falling off of notes and words, and her mastery of the lower registers set this up perfectly! This masterpiece, being shot in black-n-white and in what looks like an abandoned warehouse, mesh beautifully with the overall meaning of these lyrics! Lucy pulls you into this waitresses' life within the first 10 seconds and we feel the intense empathy Lucy feels here........the trials, faults, and difficult times she has experienced in her job, her pitfalls with her relationships, and what she yearns to get back, but there may be hope in the end! This is outstanding acting here and is equal to any of her "Rosie" performances, just flawless in every way!!

Lucy, I've heard of this musical but can't recall hearing any of the songs from it before. For this reason, to me your version is the original and I can't imagine anyone coming anywhere close to it. This is a "Rosie" performance in terms of............everything! Lucy felt this one right away and assumed her persona, faults and all, and the trials & tribulations this waitress has faced in the past and what her life might have been.........but there may be hope in the future! This emotional & empathic masterpiece is right there with all of the other "Rosie" performances, just brilliantly acted out by Lucy!!

You see, some of Lucy's earlier work doesn't get the same level of recognition as her latest work, which, of course, are all masterpieces! Remember, folks, Lucy is 14 years old! Age does NOT matter! What stands out here is something that VERY few artists can truly master: CONTROL! Lucy is under complete control and her low range is perfect, just that slight vibrato to bring those lyrics out in the open! She was right in saying this is an emotional song.........she sings it like she is living every word she sings.......and brings you in ever so softly as she taps into your heart & soul.......and takes you along for the ride.

Ronv, yes, agree with you 100%! I've seen many performances of this and ALL of them are too loud, too much 'vocal gymnastics', etc. They lose the true meaning of these lyrics. Lucy, even at age 14, puts together an absolute masterpiece here by sheer raw empathy: she steps into this broken, but hopeful waitress, and we feel what she feels! The tone of her world-class vocals, her facial expressions, and her body language convey this sad character, but she shows us what this waitress can become! This one here, and also "Someone You Loved" are both extremely emotional and both take empathy to the Nth level........the 'magic' of Lucy Thomas

I have been singing and studying singers for the past 50+ years. When I listen to Lucy sing this song I get a lump in my throat and a tear in my eyes. That means the artist accomplished her goal. She touched my heart. What makes Lucy so good is the emotion she sings with.

The hour is late. The house is quiet. I have my headphones on and I listen to Lucy's angelic voice. It is so beautiful and calming. What better way to prepare for sleep? Lucy's voice has a unique quality to it. The tones she produces are always pleasant on the ear. Never harsh and screechy. Her voice is a fine tuned instrument.

It's amazing how "Lucy Thomas" can tell a story that has passion and empathy written all over the whole foundation of the covering story, and yet, exercise every part of the lyric with such emotion, that can easily bring one to floods of tears. I don't think that there will be other singers who can sing this song better than Lucy, except herself.
When I think back to my own teen years I was embarrassingly shy and had no confidence and found a corner to hide in. I didnt realise Lucy is a teen herself when she caught the publics imagination with her obvious talents. Im really pleased for her having the confidence to perform in public and on TV. She is Gods gift from heaven along with Martha and mum n dad. What a great family.

Not only does her vibrato really highlight some of her lower registers, but she uses it perfectly to bring out that quick octave change, with that natural vibrato, just augments the tremendous emotion she emits from the tone of her vocals, to her facial expressions, and then her body language says it all: she has these faults and issues, but she shows us hope at the end........she used to be mine.......absolute masterpiece

Dear Lucy❤️ I've seen this video like a million times by now, and it hits me so emotionally that it gives me a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes every time I watch it. Just the way you portray this character with your beautiful talented voice and your amazing acting is so outstanding. It is so well done that I can literally feel the sadness and despair of this poor and abused waitress who used to have so many dreams that she never achieved. It’s so powerful that you want to do everything to help this person. You step into this character and deliver with such briliant acting and credibility that it really could have been from your own life experience, wich is no easy thing to do. Everything you do is so impressive and I simply can’t believe that at such a young age you easily manage to take everyone's breath away. You are a true star that defentely will achieve all of your dreams, and its always an honor to listen to your music❤️
