We have had two windows of real superbowl opportunity, 1998-99 but Testaverde got hurt in the opening game of the season after going to the afc championship the year before, and 2009-10 seasons we had a decent shot of going for it all.
Now that I think about it- The Bucs actually tried what Rich wants the Jets to do. They drafted a QB 1st overall, and tried to develop him and surround him with young really good skill players. They brought in 2 different offensive-minded HCs who have really good track records with QBs to develop Jamies Winston and stuck with him for 5 years. When it didn't work out, then they went after Brady. What more could they have actually done? The only difference between the Bucs when they got Brady and the Jets now potentially in the mix for Rogers is that it's after 2 years not 5. And if the Jets waited until Wilson's 5th year option (which let's face it he likely won't even reach), they might miss their window with their current crop of players.

To be fair, Z.Wilson was asked to immediately become a starter right out of college. You never know what this can do to some athletes. It's asking a lot, the dude was only 22 years old then. Steve Young was almost 30 when he took over for Montana. I'm not saying to give Zach more time; I have no idea if he can be fixed etc....but he may have been ruined. It's a lot like releasing a movie at the wrong time; you don't get another premiere.

Lawrence is younger than Zach and endured a much worse situation in his first year and look at him now. A QB either has it or they don't, and right now it's looking like Zach doesn't have what it takes.
I cannot tell you what my emotions would be to see "JETS" in an endzone for a SB. Let alone WINNING a SB....I cant even fathom such an event/feeling. Zach would do better sitting behind Rodgers for 2-3 years while we go for a SB. We're gonna have to pay all our young studs very soon. Window is now.

As a Saints fan, I felt the same way when Brady was a short-lived option to come and play for a returning Payton at the very beginning of this QB carousel craziness - if Brady came and we won again, it would be great, but it would've never been OUR Superbowl, it would be Brady's Superbowl, he just would have happened to be wearing our uniform at the time it happened - then again, I was actually alive to see our first and only win, so I might feel a bit different if I were a Jets fan with the prospect of having Rodgers win one for us with Broadway Joe's blessing.
One thing is for sure, though - if Rodgers ends up in a Jets uniform, we'll all be able to hear Favre laughing all the way from Mississippi!
Rich is exactly right in wanting to build a team the right way for sustained success and not just a sugar hit for 1-3 seasons!!! Draft well and bring in free agents and grow together for long term success and the Jets are in the position now where players will want to come to their franchise!!!!🏈🏈🏈

Sustainability makes more sense. People remember last year's Rams as a team that paid for a SB. Even then the Rams were the exception not the rule. Time and again you've seen teams go all in and fail more often than succeed. Seems to me the odds are greater when you go all in for one season.
This is such a lazy take. The Rams had a great foundation of homegrown talent, and were in the Super Bowl just two years prior. They had the best offensive and defensive players in the league last year, in Kupp and Donald. They made a couple of huge moves, and if it had been your team, you would be doing cartwheels. The last time I checked, trades are legal. Maybe take a minute and look at the talent they lost to free agency in the offseason leading up to last year's championship. In fact, under McVay, the Rams roster is raided every year, as is their coaching staff.

The Rams just did it bigger, bolder, and better than anyone else. The thought that you can buy a championship, in a league where every team has the same salary cap restrictions, is laughable. He's right because doing it with Zach means Zach is actually good and it sets them up for a larger window. It also validates the coach and GM. He isn't saying he wouldn't take a Super Bowl with Rodgers.
that's true, but what brockman and tj were saying is, stop fantasizing about your super bowl dream scenario and instead think about how you can give yourself the best chance to win a super bowl. the jets are a playoff caliber roster right now with a good qb. a great qb could make them super bowl winners.

I live in Germany and I'm Packers fan since 1996. Packers are relatively big here. Both Superbowl XXXI and XXXII were highly watched here. I remember that my father let me stay up way past midnight to watch the Broncos crush the Packers.
Montana to Young is exponentially better than Favre to Rodgers
The last time my team won the Superbowl I was a 6 year old little rugrat going wild watching Steve Young thump a mustached Junior Seau and the Chargers. I am now 34 years old still waiting... and there are teams with MUCH worse droughts.
Moral of the story? If your team wins the Superbowl you better spend every second cherishing that s**t.
I feel everyone is arguing but the solution is the same thing. Hackett was brought in to develop Zach AND his connection with Rodgers. We ride Rodgers for the next 2 years, not thinking about Zach while he observes and learn under Rodgers. After that, we see what we have in Zach and he becomes our long term answer at QB. We draft a developmental QB in this year's draft as possible insurance if Zach doesn't work out.

Rich, everyone would rather have the young, elite long term quarterback than the short term veteran. The problem is the chances of your young quarterback being rehabilitated into a top 7 quarterback are extremely low because Zach Wilson just doesn't have it IMHO (and I think most people agree with me). You are better off trying to get a championship with the veteran while you can. You've got a talented young group that are going to eventually want large contracts so you want to try and win while they are cheap.
Look, Jets fans need a deep and rewarding fantasy life. And as a Jets fan, Rich is 100% correct here. Fixing Zach and having a competitive team led by a franchise QB for the next decade plus would absolutely be the more desirable outcome. Of course you'd take a ring courtesy of Rodgers. But renting A-Rod for 1-2 years, getting a ring and then suffering through yet another rebuild - while awesome and totally worth it - is not nearly as enticing as consistently competing with Zach. I'm not even sure why this is a debate...
Peterson is my choice, he came into an impossible mess and turned them into a good solid team in one year. Amazing!

Winning a SB with Wilson is no guarantee that you'll ever get back again. Take it when you can, and would you really sacrifice a chance with Rogers and not sign him if you could because you want to see it happen with Wilson? Plus, can't you do both?? Doesn't signing Rogers give you the perfect excuse to sit Wilson and have him develop???
We can say that Rogers is more physically gifted than Brady without a doubt, but he's not in his category mentally. Brady's game is primarily his brilliance in decision making. It's like speed chess. Brady makes smart fast moves better than anyone else. And Brady is healthy and can move as well as ever, it seems. .o0
The Packers last two seasons ended with Rodgers throwing a bomb/prayer with other guys open underneath.

The issue in Greenbay, is Matt wants a run first offense. And Rodgers wants a pass first, match up based offense.

Bledsoe into Brady for the Pats was probably better. Favre has the one ring over Bledsoe, but he got it playing against Bledsoe in the same Super Bowl. And you can't come close to comparing the Packers' success with Rodgers to the Pats' with Brady.
I would love to do it the way the Bengals are doing it too. But the Jets are incapable of finding that gem to run the offense. We have 50 years of proof of that. As a Jet fan of 30 plus years, I don't care. Bring him in. I want a championship.

How's Jordan Love's development gone under Rodgers? Point being, Rodgers is notoriously cold to young quarterbacks because he takes the "why should I care about the guy succeeding me?" route.
More to the point, getting rid of Chad Pennington, who really wasn't that bad, for a Brett Favre that lied about being hurt and left New York with more scandals than he came in with is nearly directly to blame for the Jets being in the position we are right now. If we trade two first rounders that we desperately need to get more playmakers for an aging Packer who could probably not give more than a quarter of a dump about the Jets, we're condemning ourselves to the same damn cycle all over again.

I guess Rodgers single ring, and single trip to the Superbowl keeps bringing him comparisons to a TEN TIME Superbowl playing Brady, and owner of SEVEN rings. Rodgers has 1/3 of Young's career etc... Rodgers can come back to, maybe, a 10--7 season next year with GB. That's where they're at.
when greg knapp died zach went thru 4 qb coaches in 1 year and was ultimately left with a guy who has no nfl experience at all. went from a guy who coached vick, palmer, manning, matt ryan, his qbs had 5 combined 4000 yard passing seasons and 11 combined pro bowl selections. to a guy who has no idea what he’s doing at all at the nfl level. that’s a rollercoaster. the reason saleh said he wants to replace the “greg knapp” role with another senior offensive assistant. i tho k we sign rodgers for a year and have zach develop.
Have the balls to tank for Caleb or Drake next year…it’s right there. The best thing 22 of the 32 teams could do next year is go 3-14. This is undeniable.
Brady is the exception, not the rule. Brady also took a lower salary to allow for the front office to acquire other talent because football is a team game.

Both choices are not really good. Rodgers doesn't have much time left. Zach isn't going to develop in time and we walk in free agency since his trade value is so low. Carr is a better option. He has time and is developed. If not him, then who else? Jacoby Brissett? Garoppolo?
Why can't Zach watch and learn from Rogers? He would be learning from one of the best of all time. Then it would be sustainable.
I will say it was year THREE in college that Zach Wilson broke out , his first two years at BYU were statistically bad; I’d give him one more year see if it clicks

Rich- the clock striking midnight has absolutely nothing to do with Brady, all those players were originally built around Jameis Winston, so you need to remember that. How would that have been any different if Winston had panned out and They were paying him what they paid Brady (which was only 25 million per year)...? So let's look at this accurately okay.

Nothing worse than a team buying a Super Bowl like the Rams did last year, rather a team to be good year in, year out struggling to get to the top of the mountain.

As a Colts/Peyton Manning fan growing up, a can relate what bills fans may go through, and it’s way better than the alternative. For the next little while, Bills/Bengals fans, every year could be their year.

Jets are only a couple of pieces away from being in the mix. If they got Rogers and upgrade their WR group with someone like McLaurin and another vet, paired with Uzama at TE and Hall in the backfield... who's to say how far they can go?
QB is a different animal than any other position.... Yeah, picking up a future Hall of Famer for their last couple of seasons, and getting a mercenary trophy, and reverting right back to obscurity is not like doing it "with your own guys"... And being good for a decade
