- I show two methods of coloring the paper rods (by immersion and with a brush), explain the pros and cons of each method and review what can be used for dyeing the paper rods.
I also invite you to join the FB group MiracleWicker so that you could show your newspaper baskets, see the baskets made by the others, meet other weavers, and learn the lifehacks related to making the newspaper baskets. It's a new group but let's make it grow together! / 1589321361513669
Amazing videos, thank you so much!! I have made a couple of baskets inspired by non-english videos that had me guessing a lot. These baskets are ok. But your videos are presented so so clearly, thank you so much
Thank you very much ❤️
Very helpful.
Thank you❤️
Thank u so much for ur series of video on making tubes.. want to know if fabric acrylic colors like fevicryl are enough for coloring??
I'm not familiar with that fabric dye. I used Tintex and Rit.
Please do a video on what varnish mixture and method you used!?
I haven't been making any videos lately but I do show how to make that mixture in one of the videos. I think it's called Flexible Paper Rods
The rods have a light spot near the tips, which I assume is because of the waterproof glue used. When you join rods, do you slide that part into the other rod so the spot can’t be seen, or do you trim off that end?
I trim it off.
@@miraclewicker Thank you!
My first paper rods I did on a spaghetti 😂😂😂
This is funny but also really clever! 😂
That was resourceful! Hallmark of a true crafter.
I used immersion method bt my paper rods were so dump that started breaking 😢😢😢
Coloring the paper rods is only one step in preparing them for weaving. You need to dry them, then treat with the mixture of the acrylic varnish and water, then dry again, them moisturize and cure. Only after that you can use them for weaving. I have the videos about all these steps on my channel.
Can you make a video of how to use colours instead of wood stains
I will do that. But in a nutshell, it's the same. You can use the fabric dye the same way you use a wood stain. If you need to get the pastel colors, use the white base, e.g. the drywall primer (water + a few spoons of the white base + acrylic paint). If you tell me which color you need, I will be able to suggest how to get it.
@@miraclewicker thank you so much for your response if you feel free make a video and post it might be useful to many people who are interested in this process. I will definitely try and let you know. Is the primer which you mentioned should be acrylic primer or any wall primer which is water based. And another thing is that Modpodge is enough or should I get varnish for priming. In your video I have you using only mod podge with water. And please let me know that finishing process. What is ideal length of the paper to make tubes
I use acrylic latex drywall primer simply because that's the only thing available on the market but it works just fine. It gives the softness for the pastel colours and helps the paper rods to be flexible, if they are properly moisturized of course. Mod Podge mixed with water is enough to treat both the paper rods prior to weaving and the whole basket after you finish weaving it. Usually I weave with paper rods approximately 30cm long. It's somewhat difficult to make the longer paper rods (although it's necessary for certain fancy patterns), especially for those who are just learning how to weave. That's why 27-30cm is the optimal length.
@@miraclewicker thank you
And please let me know the size of the paper you take for making tubes how many cm’s let mr know the length and breadth of the paper snd size of the rod to make paper tubes
I use the paper strips 10cm wide and the paper rods either 1.2 or 1.5mm.
