As Jennifer mentioned, it's the culture that's existed in NAIA for decades. Cebu is a completely different experience. If there was a will at the top of the government and NAIA, then things could change. The screeners and staff need to go through their own screening process before they start and end their shift. Any additional items in their pockets and on their body at the end of their shift need to be confiscated and explained.
Yes. Like having to bribe the passport officer 2k on your first arrival or you won't get in. And it's not hidden from view or the cameras. Which tells you THEY ARE ALL AT IT. Like I've never had a decent taxi driver in Manila and never a bad one in Cebu. I've spent the last few hours trying to upgrade my pldt home fiber. The Philippines doesn't have a clue about accounts or web pages. And when you contact them they don't even know the products they advertise on their own website. Filipinos at some stage in your life stop and demand better.
Totally agree in Cebu Mactan Airport never had any Problems ,, Silay Airport , Never a Problem ,, NAIA 3 times ,,and 3 times had to pay Money .
@@philippinesOneLove Criminals are everywhere. I have never been ripped off by airport employees or taxi drivers. Why? Because I am constantly checking my surroundings. If you exhibit a high degree of awareness, criminals will move on to the person who is stumbling around trying to take selfies or talking on their cellphone while walking.
I totally agree.
I totally agree 👍
I had a similar experience on Feb. 19 at the NAIA terminal 3. My Apple Watch was taken out of my hand carry on and I did not realize that till I got back to Los Angeles. This incident made me think twice before planning a travel to the Philippines. I have travelled many times to Thailand over the past 5 years, never encountered any issues. But one time to the Philippines, I experienced this theft from my carry on. It took me 5 years to forget the the theft of my iPhone from my luggage in NAIA, in 2018; terminal 1 and now this !! I think in the next 5 years, thousands of dollars of my tourist money will be spent in countries that can control their thieves security personnel at their airport ! NAIA (all its three terminals) are terrible and filled with thieves acting as security personals ! Come on guys, STOP THIS NON SENS!!
Jen, these kind of ridiculous things never stop! I dont know why! If you know the chef from “ Panlasang Pinoy” blog, he recently went home with his family and experience the same thing. A lot of their pasalubongs were stolen! Do you know where the stealings being done mostly, in the airplane compartment where the baggages are! Before bringing it down, they do it inside there where nobody could see! I think every airplane should have a camera there because these people will never stop doing it! Just a puncture of the luggage zipper with a ballpen can open any luggage! It is so frustating how our people can do these things, Filipinos claiming to be the most hospitable people and yet corrupt in so many ways! Shame 😢
😢😢Im sad because I was very proud to be a filipino and then this is happening right at the heart of my country Philippines?..cant express my disappointment..😢😢
Government officials should take action and have a strict rules for personnel. Those who get caught stealing should go to prison for years so they learn. And you're probably right it's the NAIA syndicate. Thanks for you vlog Jen.
Hope when they enter prison they can be victimeized too!!!
If over 100 countries have good airports, no scam, is it possible in the Philippines? VERY POSSIBLE. Those countries did it. THE PHILIPPINES CAN TOO. Our leaders are leaders for a reason. Anybody who's determined to do something, that something is going to happen. It works the same way for a nation's leadership and for mayors of the cities.
Hi Terri love your vlogs & wanted to add' not only is the airport personnel stealing from tourists, but they are also disrespectful to your own people also. For filipinos leaving the country for the first time they are treated terribly & disrespected by immigration also even though there paperwork is in order. They are not interviewed by immigration they are interrogated ' just for wanting to go overseas on a holiday. They need to make the screening process much more simple & treat there own people with more respect. I understand they have a job to do but most of the time they are just on a power trip. Let your citizens have a holiday overseas & stop making it so difficult. They are giving your country a bad name & it's about time the government did something about it.
Absolutely.. my fiancée needed a mountain of paperwork just to go to Maldives.. even with all her paperwork she still had to talk to second officer.. it’s absolutely insane
They ignore CCTVs because it's possible the entire team gets a cut, maybe even their bosses. Corrupt corporations, governments, charities, etc., can do this with impunity because many of them share the plunder.
I’m sure the higher ups are in cahoots with lower personnel.
It is a BIG POSSIBILITY that higher officials are aware and connected.
People can not but think that this is already a syndicate inside NAIA or maybe ALL Phil AIRPORTS ( or maybe even ALL PORTS where tourist goes, like ferry terminals) . NOT ONLY OUTGOING PASSENGERS GETS ROBBED, BUT ALSO INCOMING PASSENGERS. A lot of cases also have been reported, posted regarding missing items missing/taken from their bagages/boxes BUT no action/ thorough investigation done. Am not sure if they have already installed CCTVs in all AIRPORTS areas (from picking up bagages from the airline to --> transport route to the conveyors or whatever other areas bagages goeas through). IF NOT YET, then we can assume that the airport top officials (and maybe head of tourism ) DOES NOT REALLY CARE. Cases like this will just be another old news . SICK AND SAD SYSTEM.
Yes all get a cut
Thank you, Jennifer. I did have a bad experience last year when we were checking in PAL counter. Before you check in, they inspect your bags/boxes, and the guy told me, "Sir, hindi ko na bubuksan ang boxes nyo bahala na kayo sa amin. I just ignored the guy 'cause I want them to do what they have to do. But sadly, they approach my wife, the same thing "Ma'am bahala na kayo sa amin hindi na namin bubuksan ang mga luggage nyo." Of course my wife said to me,"Just give them your Philippine peso. " I was saving that Phil pesos for my trip this month (March 2023). Let's be firm and not to give anything to these scalwags.
2016, I will never forget. Someone helped to push my cart outside the airport. I don't have any cash in my wallet so I borrowed 50 pesos from my nephew and gave it to one of the guys that helped pushed the trolley. He refused, he won't accept it - he wanted dollars! He left and he said "Abuloy nyo na lang yan sa lamayan" I couldn't believe it. First of all, nobody needs to get a tip at the airport. I didn't asked any of them to help me with my baggage, they just came to me and said that they would like to help me, Ok fine, but that was unexpected. I went home 3 times more after that and every time someone offers to help me at the airport, I just say no.
Hi Jennifer, can you please raise the concern about the last screening in NAIA terminal 2 just before boarding. A lot of people are complaining that even after going to the restroom you need to line up again and get screened. I got so mad that they even wanted a crippled or disable passenger to stand up on that small podium so they could check his body and they’re not even helping the guy to stand or walk. I told those people that if that guy fell and injured they will be responsible but they just watch him struggling.
I think 2nd screening is only for PAL passengers. Kaya NOT anymore flying with PAL.
I just came from NAIA last week, and the personnel at the door tried to get me to give them a bribe before they would let me in the airport, saying I was too early for my flight and would have to wait outside unless I slipped them money. This was only 3 hours before my flight and I still had to go to the counter first to check my bag!
Give you one better, I was on a domestic flight from Gensan to Manila. On arrival to Manila, you arrive at a domestic terminal, and are taken by a shuttle bus to the international departure terminal. Like most foreigners we purchased our duty free items at the first terminal and declared the unopen items with receipts at the second terminal only to find out that for security reasons our items would be confiscated. Mind you the locals know about this and wait till they are at their departing terminal before making purchases. Myself along with some Brit’s and Aussie got caught up and had all of our purchases taken. There were 3-4 large dustbins filled with all sorts of items taken from others. As one traveler said, State sponsored stealing.
The worst part of it all is that people coming on vacation get treated like this as a first experience they will never come back. Also, they will go back home and pass the word to their friends and families about being robbed at the airport and tourism will suffer as a result. Such a shame that these bad apples are going to spoil the whole bunch.
Callimg the attention
of our SENATORS
please !!!!!
Good job Terri! Yes, that shameful and bad for Philippine tourism. The President lightened the travel restrictions BUT this people in this airport degraded the Philippines reputation. Thank you for speaking out😀💕
Now you know why the signs say "no photo/video" in the official sections of the airport, lol.
The faces of the culprits must also be shown to the public on tv, vlogs, newspapers. Shame them aside from prison terms!!
My experience with NAIA security, twice already, security staff asking departing passengers for “leftover” pesos to give to them🙄
Makes me sick! Jail time should be imposed on these thieves
The key point or takeaway is to remain vigilant, and keep an eye on your luggage/bags, very good advice. Knowing your rights is the most important part of this video in terms of who is allowed to open your luggage which is you. Thank you Jennifer for raising awareness of this issue, the very people you assume you can trust stealing, wow.
My mistake as I travel all over and often checked my laptop(low priced) in checked bagged without issue in USA, Colombia, Mexico, Caribbean and Europe. It was never stolen until I took Cebu Pacific from Clark to Cebu. Gone, and the airline sent me to a central facility and there did nothing. In the Philippines especially, as they may be smiling, but many are looking to steal as well. The rest of Asia is fine, but se more caution in the Philippines.
Something has to change at NAIA that is a disgrace 😒 especially when the Airport employees are doing it . SHAME ON YOU PEOPLE !!!
Really disgraceful culprits, I had a bad experience a month ago. They stole all vitamins and pair of shoes, perfumes and many more in my checking in luggage.. must stop this.. so disappointing, beware po bagong modus nila is kunyari ihuhuli luggage niyo then Pag claimed niyo na.. ampaw na ang maleta niyo. Isipin dapat nila dimo naman pinulot

Thank You Jenni for sharing and disclosing this unacceptable behaviour.
when a security checker/ screener get caught stealing must must be expose and humiliated in front of the public so the public are aware and hope that justice is served.
Embarrassed and humiliating sa lahat ng Filipinos. Keep vlogging and posting great contents online. Great work. hugs . ☝️💜🤗
They NEED to change the security company.
Not suspend, but fire.
They need people to watch the security personal or have the P.N.P. posted at the screening location to watch.
Just watched this. Thank you. I took a screenshot of the rules in regards to inspection of bags
Be there late april
Yes those people at NAIA please government do something!!! Those people doing that must be punished!!! Give them a lesson!!! this is a BIG EMBARRASSING FOR ALL THE FILIPINOS!!! thank you to that person who took the video!! HOPE THE GOVERNMENT CAN DO ANY ACTION!
SHAME YOU GUYS WHO'S WORKING ON THAT DEPARTMENT!!! MAHIYA NA MAN KAYO !!! MAYROON KAYONG SUWELDO MAG NAKAW PA!!!!
Never wear watches or jewellery through NAIA. NEVER. We always zip up valuables in the inside pockets of the carry on bag. We always have our check in mags plastic wrapped to stop airport security and baggage handlers stealing. Always take off your belt before security. Put ladies purse or handbag inside the carry on bag. Cameras and mobile phones always inside the carry on. You can do without them for the short while you are in the security area.
I have always removed my wallet, watch and belt and put them inside my backpack middle section zipped up. If I have a carry on then I will put then inside and lock it.
Thanks good idea
The people who are supposed to be the protectors, should not be the the ones you need protecting from. As a Security professional of over 20 years and ex Police, these people are vermin. As are their Seniors for allowing it to happen.
Locked up too. They have x ray to see inside the bag.

Here's a suggestion that I think may work. Put your stuff in packing cubes, then stuff them in a black garbage bag, tie it and wrap it with one of those industrial straps that can't be cut easily. Put inside the suitcase, then wrap a couple or 3 regular luggage straps outside. I wouldn't wrap the suitcase in plastic because that's tacky. Pack your essentials in your carryon so you don't need to unpack right away when you get to your destination. Hopefully the thieves would get discouraged and move on to the next one. It's also a good idea to include an Apple airtag in each luggage.
Thank you, Jennifer, for this worrying information. I hope the authorities clamp down hard on these thieves. I will be extra vigilant at the security checks, when I return to Manila next month.
When my husband ( American ) and I came to the PH, in the 70's, it was expected that you needed to have some small gift to give the screener.
Sad that this will reflect on the entire country as far as airports.. I have found all my times to visit Cebu , the Filipinos were honest and helpful each and every time,,
airport is the first and last place you see when you come to a particular country
The Secretary of Tourism and the Director sa NAIA must step up and implement stricter rules like one year in prison. No exceptions!
You are extremely right, only the owner of the luggage can open his/ her luggage NOT any airport personnel. If there is questionable item seen in scan, that luggage will be pulled out , owner opens in front of CUSTOMS , no other else. Only in Pinas.
Those thieves don't always steal, sometimes they plant things....like bullets 🤦♂️
We'll be going to the Philippines in the summer and hearing about this is disheartening. Too bad we don't have a choice but to fly into Manila. And we will not cancel our plans just because of these corrupt who are supposed to protect our borders.
There needs to be harsher penalty for airport employees who commit illegal acts, including immediate termination and / or jail time. The problem I see in the Philippines is when someone is caught in corruption, they are not punished, or worse, covered by the higher ups who are corrupt themselves. So the cycle continues. The only way it will stop (maybe), is to expose them and make sure they are punished to the full extent of the law.
I was a fool. I had the choice to go through Cebu but to save ₱2500 I picked Manila. Dreading it and I'm afraid.
@@wootle I just came back from Manila and luckily, I didn’t encounter any theft at the airport.
@@whereisnemo9272 Great to hear!
Somehow I'm not surprised. I have commented to your previous video concerning the matters, the current Administration really need to clean and sanitize the entire house starting from top to bottom. Many honest, hardworking Filipinos are more than willing and qualified to take over those positions.
I am now scared to go through NAIA as I plan to visit the Philippines this year after 5 years! The Marcos government should do something about this NOW otherwise tourists and visitors will avoid the Philippines!
Well done Jen for getting this out there. This has gone on for years. I had cameras stolen a number of years ago.
You are right this has been going on for decades. It’s passed from one generation to another. As much as possible I’m staying away from NAIA airport. Luckily, Cebu has a direct flight from LAX, but I’m still vigilant never lose sight on my belongings.
Nakakahiya talaga mga tao sa NAIA globally known for stealing passengers belongings whether it’s a checked in luggage or carry on bag.
Thank you, because I was
Wondering, if there's direct flight to Cebu fr U. S.!
How do they steal carry on bag? Don't you have it on you at all times? I'm visiting phillipines and was wondering if I have to take off my carry on bag.
I'm questioned by the police and fire department while walking, I've had salesman raise the price by hundreds of dollars twice, beggers curse at me, and now a doctor is claiming my GFs embryo is dead to extort money. It's not all rainbows and unicorns for foreigners here. All you can do is refuse to be scammed. Stay safe.

@Jennifer Terri: Totally agree with what you said about Davao and Cebu! As a Luzonian I am ashamed of NAIA! As Luzonian I am proud of New Clark International Airport🙂 FOR ANY VISITS TO LUZON GO FOR NEW CLARK INTERNATIONAL INSTEAD🙂🇵🇭
Good job Jen, I hope and pray what you have said reached the mind and soul of every personnel who are dealing with every passengers and Lord God You are in Charge.
I'm going home April 3 and bringing with me my Bluetooth Speaker collection, got about 20 of them.Lived in the U.S. for 45 years and I am retiring in the Philippines.I am now worried that they will be stolen.
We really need to clean the act of our airport personnel, kasiraan ng ating bansa iyan,,thanks Jen for addressing this issues
The lack of compunction among NAIA personnel, in a country where fear of being shamed is usually an effective deterrent, is shockingly off the charts.
Those personal are embarrassing to the country, they should clean up starting from the top . It happened to my Kuya ....a lot of NAIA people are theft very poor management.
Hello Ms. Jennifer.
I would like to thank you for the information and it is really an eye opener for all visitors and nationals traveling in and out of the country. Thank you once again. Great job, keep it up.
It needs action at Government level. There needs to be better vetting of security personnel and deterrent sentences to prevent this happening.
This theft of $140 has gone viral. I'm visiting the Philippines later this year on an extended vacation. I'd probably spend 1 to 2 weeks in Manila in a hotel exploring eating in restaurants seeing sights before moving on.
After this I'll be flying into Mactan. If more people did the same it would have a significant impact on the income from tourism and maybe motivate the authorities to act.
This is so sad to know that the people you are trusting at the airport, are the ones who actually steals from you. I hope they can't work anywhere in public again. Nakakahiya talaga ang ibang kababayan.
You bring up a good point here. In my country certain jobs require a document that states we have a clean history as a screening process when applying for a certain job. Such screening is categorized for example jobs where you have to interact with children, have financial transactions, have access to personal medical information and so forth. If an employee looses a good code of conduct, he automatically looses his job and cannot apply for any other job in that same field. A very good system if you ask me.
Tyvm for your updates @JenniferTerri. Great reminder always.
Good that you addressed this issue that’s why im getting worried to bring valuable stuff when travelling back to the Philippines. Even branded shoes or bags were missing. The last time i came home, they hold the vitamins that i bought for my brother, for what? Those were over the counter vit supplements here in the US. So shameful those Naia personnels who do such thing. They should be fired out!
I sent this letter to Philippines President today: and I encourage more foreigners send letters directly to the Philippines President. Thank you Jennefer for your video.
Dear Mr President
I am a USA citizen and been in your country as a tourist many times but as you know the crminal activities at NAIA terminal 2 causing major concerns for foreign tourists and specially no action has been taken to overhaul the entire Transportation Department and specially the NAIA departments vision. The security staff at NAIA Terminal 2 has been rubbing foreigners for years and it is obvious that leadership at NAIA and department of transportation are well aware and not doing anything to fix these issues for years.
I as a foreigner do not feel safe to travel to your country and my tourist dollars will be spent elsewhere unless you as president take immediate action.
You can deploy national guard to watch the airport screeners (since the CCTV not managed vigilantly) and immediately stop this embarrassment for your country. The tourists are powerless and unable to proof these rubberies.
Hope more actions are taken soon from the office of the president to eliminate these kinds of criminal activities at your NAIA airport so the foreign tourists feel safe to travel to your country.
Sincerely
Iradj Farahmand
Hi Jennifer ! It doesn't matter if you are foreigners or anybody there is no right to stall anything. Thank you again 💓
I’m Filipino living here abroad and I’m so embarrassed! Please, government, do something! I will avoid NAIA next time even though I’ll spend extra at least I don’t get hurt!
You calling Philippine government do something their own government is corrupt so you think they gonna something about it you gotta to ge kidding me😂😂😂😂
The reason some or most people fall into wrong doing because of how they run the country low job pay rate no benefits.

Deeply rooted greedy mindset talaga yan.. not because of low salary yan.. dami nagtatrabaho sobra liit ng sweldo hindi naman ganyan. Mataas sweldo ng naia employee po

Thanks for always updating. It’s very much appreciated.
Thank you Jennifer for shedding more light on this endemic problem. Tell us what we can do as foreigners if this happens to us. We are told to always stay calm in teh Philippines, but this would not be tolerated anywhere else. This is a national shame. Does the Philippines want tourists or not??? Things will not change unless more filipinos speak out about this old, inbred system of corruption. What shoud we do if this happens to us?
Manila is an issue, nowhere else in the country do those issues occur.
Thanks it’s very useful video. I’m going back to Phil by April and I don’t like to experience that missing things and money .hope by the time I arrive in Philippines no more of those theft. Thanks for exposing them.

Good thing someone had a video of that incident and hopefully those two screeners are in prison by now. I've never had a bad experience at that airport but like you said young lady, we must remain vigilant. I believe most of the people that work in that airport are actually good, honest people but
unfortunately there are always a few bad ones. Thanks for the video !!!
A policy of zero talerance must be enforced now and into the future to turn it around
I asked an employee at NAII a simple question regarding directions. He engaged in a long conversation and vaguely gave me an answer. He then proceeded to ask me for a 1000 pesos tip. I said no and he protested and said I was a foreigner and could afford it. Not my first trip to Philippines so didn't change my positive opinion of Filipinos.
Nakakasuka talaga, damay kaya tayo, nakakahiya, really sad

Thank you Jennifer. Hope and pray this will not happen to me when I travel soon
Put them in prison......
While there are lot of good things about us Filipinos, it sad to say that corruption is deeply embedded in our culture. What happens at NAIA International Airport, and perhaps other airports in the Philippines, is just the tip of the iceberg of deeply corrupt ways of Filipinos.
What a shame,it happens also to a family vacationing Manila from Chicago, they lost so many valuables things inside the laugage
Thank you for this videos , definitely serves as a heads up. I’ll be in makati in a few weeks so I’ll definitely be more vigilant
Cebu was fine, but security was so strange at Manilla. Just to get some pesos to buy a snack I was taken outside, then inside, then outside, then up in a small elevator. I was so nervous. I expected to be ambushed coming out of the elevator. I exchange some money, then back that entire convoluted journey. Then back through security. It all seemed so random and unprofessional.
It’s shameful , even I’m pilipina going home soon , I’m afraid of this kind of attitude
Thank you Jennifer for sharing this. Why are there a lot of corrupt people in the Philippines. Is it because they are being tolerated by you know who.

I just came back from the Philippines on Friday and they finally did something right at that old terminal 1. No more X ray when you go in the terminal. As far as charging Filipinos a fee to leave is awful. They use to charge foreigners to leave years ago.
True indeed.
Thanks for the update Jennifer. Dapat lang pagbayaran nila. Nakakahiya.

NOW I AM SO SCARED TO GO BACK TO THE PHILIPPINES !!! It is true that you should be the one to open your bag after the scan if they think there is something suspicious and so u and the TSA counterpart will look into it right in front of you!
I was asked by TSA to open my bag bcz I had oversized moisture.. then I gave it.. then he re X-ray my bag for clearance
Will be heading to NAIA early April from Sydney. This sort of thing makes me a little nervous but a good reminder to be very vigilant as I progress through the airport. Thanks Jen 👍
Why are they not doing something to fix these, remove charge these crooks, don't they screen them, police. NBI clearance?
I am currently in the phillipines and tbh i was terrified to land in NAIA after hearing from filipinos on plane and aircraft personnel. I would say keep an eye out for obvious reason. I heard from an ex security worker that checked in luggage is more prone to stealing than carry on. with carryon, it was easier. since you are able to look from the other side. However, there has been stories that leaving NAIA is more to be worried about since it could be a part where you do not see your belongings directly anymore. So precious things, money and electronics should be in the carryon. I am not sure about passport at hand while going through the screening so if anyone knows more about that, it could definitely be appreciated. In carryon or keep at hand for security reasons? I hope this comments helps
I went through in September with no issue. But I kept an eye on my tray as it passed through. I would also advise using tracking tags on valuables and in bags.
I'm going to the Philippines in late April from the US going through NAIA. Would you please post an update on your experience. I would like to be prepared as I'm a little nervous as well going through this airport. Thanks! Safe travels!
Don't bring in any valuables, if you do keep them all in the hand carry bags locked up. Send money through Western Union and withdraw it when you get to the Philippines, just need address and ID
