The first time I saw Kanas I was 15 the year was 1975. I paid $3.00 and sat in the second row center! They were doing the Masque tour. I was with my buddies we where in a band . Our jaws hit the floor. I’m proud to say they are the all time best for me. If I had to use 1 word to describe them. That word would be POWERFUL!!!! If you never saw them live then see them they will rock your world. I have seen them 13 times. 7 times with the original lineup. I’m 63 now and will see them every time they come to town or anywhere close. They are 2nd to none! The GOAT of Rock & Roll!!! All I can say is Thanks for the Memories!!!
I'm 71 and have always loved Kansas. About 9 years ago they came to my small city in western Mass. and the day before I bought a ticket. I hope I never forget that evening. I walked to the venue as well. More than I ever expected, and it was on my "Bucket List"
People call Kansas a prog rock band, they set a bar much higher in my opinion that I would call orchestral rock, they don't play just songs, they're more like compositions...Insanely wonderful compositions only with very profound lyrics as the cherry on top...
Look at Steve. Sings plays the keys at the same time. Never missed a note. That's talent. The passion in his voice always comes through. No they don't get enough credit!!!!!
Saw them also on this tour at the Spectrum in Philly. Wow, what a show. I had seen Foreigner and Styx also around that time but Kansas was just stellar in their performance. And Yes, I can attest to the hand stands that Steve did on the keyboards.
My mom saw Kansas when she was in her 20's, now I'm in my 20's and saw them a few months ago. They still put on a damn good show. My generation needs more music like this
My first concert was Kansas in 1978. My 17 y.o. daughter's first concert with me was Kansas' 40th Anniversary Leftoverture tour in Nov 2016. She loved it! Very glad I could share them with her.
Gotta go back to the first recordings, Mackenzie; when Kerry played guitar and Dave played bass. You will experience the True Kansas!!! Song Suggestions: Can I tell you? Child of Innocence. Magnum Opus. The Spider. Best to you.
Arguably the most comprehensively talented group of musicians to ever play rock music. I know there are good groups out there today although you have to hunt for them....but none come close to these guys!
Number one! To be so good already then comes along this guy trying out for keyboards, they ask if he can sing. Omg can he sing. Then last but not least along comes Kerry Livgren. The best song writer alive has Steve Walsh, the best singer alive singing his.songs! How can you top that?
I'm from Kansas, part Native. And I've seen these guys live a couple times and one of which back in the 80'$. . with Loverboy. . . And though I really enjoyed the show, I didn't at all comprehend the magnitude of what I was witnessing. They don't mak'em like they used to.
Probably?, Steve is a fucking underrated, he was one of the greates singer in rock history, Kansas have to be included in the Hall of Fame, is a fucking shame.
I don't think he was underrated, he was considered one of the best rock singers of all time. The problem is that people have forgotten Kansas, he's retired, and unfortunately prog rock isn't main stream.
Been to many many concerts. Saw Kansas twice and Kansas is the best and tightest live band I have seen. They are actually better live than in the studio which is something you can't say about many modern bands. Kerry Livgren is also one of the most underrated guitarist around.
Absolutely no doubt!! He and Freddie Mercury are my two favorite vocalists of all time, sure wish I was a little older when they were coming up to have seen them tour together!!

This song is another great illustration of what drummer Phil Ehart said when the band was being formed - "Steve Walsh needs to be singing Kerry Livgren's music....". The combination of talent in this band was/is an American treasure.
Rich Williams is great...but in a band full of "great" like Kansas he never stood out. He and Livgren were fantastic, but Livgren was usually the "front" guitar player while Rich just stood in the background and played. I didn't appreciate him near as much until Kerry wasn't there and Rich had to pick up BOTH guitar roles. It's so much better now with Zak as they are back to two guitars, and of course with Ronnie being able to play keys, there are back to balance they need to bring back the entire catalog.

A local Salina DJ told me they use a national algorithm when I complained about hearing the same songs over & over. He told me a lot of young people have never heard them. I told him they've never heard the deep-cuts or entire albums either. We need a underground FM station like in the old days, I think it would be very popular.
@@bobthepsychic3853 probably right. Kansas is playing here in Kansas the end of September in Park City at hartmant arena. I have just started hearing plugs for them this past week. They don't play but two of the songs on the radio. Stinks...
I would love to hear, music this good on the radio, again. Kansas is still a great band. Wonderful to see, and hear live, in concert. Quality instrumentation. And amazing singing. The 70s were the single most beautiful time for bands that did justice for the fans, and their craft. Long live Prog Rock.
Steve Walsh is my favorite vocalist. His range & power were phenomenal. There three platinum albums were amazing but there other albums are also really great. 70s & 80s they were unbelievable. We'll never see anything like them again.
Two Cents Worth - Pilgrimage - Opus Insert - Miracles Out Of Nowhere and many more .... I got to see Kansas open for Yes " Masterworks Tour " in Denver , excellent show .
How have I just got into these guys? I'm almost 38 and I've never heard respect in guitar magazines or singer lists. I just learned Dust in the Wind on guitar but now watching all their videos. Super talented and underrated. They are bloody flawless and play as such a team. So much harmony and the lyrics are amazing and deep. Sheesh. 👏
Maybe the are very popular, but at the same time, they are very underated on how great they were. Especially here in Europe. Common people and media think Kansas is a very good band, but they are wrong. Kansas is among the greatest and complete bands ever
I was in my early teens when I first heard this tune back in the day on a Phoenix rock station. It instantly affected me in a way no other song ever has ever done. Hard to describe the chills, the awe, the disbelief, the joy mixed in with melancholy, the never felt before feelings that left me confused. I soaked in every note and rhythm of the song and I have never stopped appreciating the absolute beauty of it. And of course, it led me a lifelong love of Kansas music.
I fell in love with Kansas because of the Monolith album. October 2018, I moved into a house where the previous owners left a TON of their old belongings. Some cool stuff, but mostly just junk to throw away. Monolith was in a box of records I found on the first day there. I have played the album dozens of times as I've worked to clear out the basement. Kansas led me to Kerry Livgren AD, and I have really enjoyed those albums, too. Such great lyrics and music. Can't say enough good things about this band!
When I was in high school (few years ago) I said I liked Kansas and this guy said, did I like Kansas, or just “carry on my wayward son”. He said that people focused on that one song and ignored the rest. I decided to look into other albums since I sadly was one of em. “Monolith” was the first whole album I listened to and this song is now one of my favorites :)
Superb song, played by one of the all-time great bands and certainly one of the finest lead singers in rock history. They are still touring in a new iteration and they sound great even today!
Back in 1979 when i was 15 and trying to figure things out, i heard this song. Along with "lay it on the line" from triumph this song changed my life. Thank you for the music❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m still left speechless at the gifts snd talents of all these guys ! They all were the best ever ! They don’t make real music like this anymore 🤩 I have so many emotions every time I listen to them ! I wish we had more live video !! Love these guys I almost feel like their part of my family !
My bro-in-law & Robby were best friends in Jr. High & High School in Lawrence KS. Robby was always an advanced violin player. They visited each other over the years.
Sometime in the 70's, I went to see Mott the Hoople & Starcastle in South Bend Indiana...Starcastle's equipment truck ran off the road in a snow storm...This would be (as I understood from the MC) the first time 'Kansas" played outside the state of Kansas. It took less than three songs for the ENTIRE CROWD to be on their feet, blown away and Kansas fans FOR LIFE!!! I'm 62 now and have seen Kansas oh...maybe 8 or so times, I'll be seeing them again soon, GOD BLESS this band!
Sam, thanks for the story. I remember buying Starcastle's first album and reading about the truck accident on the jacket of the LP, and here you witnessed that very show!
The meaning in their songs was because Kansas was a band for Jesus Christ. Hopefully you already noticed this: Carry on my Wayward Son, The Lightning's Hand, so many of their album titles pointing back to it as well. "Turn around, Turn around, it's on the other side!" He spoke generally, because often, the words eluded him. But they definitely did not in "The Lightning's Hand."
I think they wanted to say even more than they did. It's not like they were a worship choir or anything, but they were doin' their thing. It's pasted all over their albums. Their was definitely a message trying to come across, and it was pretty epic. Most of all in Wayward Son, in my opinion "The answers are so simple and we all know where to look But it's easier to just avoid the question And if I seem too inconclusive It's just because it's so elusive.."
Great Song..Great Band..Great Message..I Saw Them in Pensacola Florida.. In The 70s/and 80s..Looked Just This. Amazing Soul ..Inside/Out..A Blessing To Our World..To This Day..God Bless You Steve Walsh. and Kansas..🕊🕊🕊
Steve wore the same gym shorts in Johnstown, PA. I was Front Row. Although I've said it all before, I'll it once again, Everyone needs something to believe in aka Jesus.
You could begin to see Kerry's Spiritual influence on this album and even with this song which would eventually lead Steve and Robbie to depart from the album starting with 'Vinyl Confessions'. At that time there wasn't social media so you really had no idea what was really going on in the band other than the music they put out. Any internal strife I never realized until all of a sudden Steve was gone and you were left scratching your head. Although I remember when 'Fight Fire with Fire' from Drastic Measures came out you almost thought that Steve had returned because that's how much John Elefante sounded like Steve, but those 2 albums without Steve were really a departure from the band musically and they never did recover fully and really never would. They would still release albums over the years but never again would they see what they saw with Leftoverture and Point of Know Return.
Lyrics The empty page before me now, the pen is in my hand The words don't come so easy but I'm trying I'm searching for a melody or some forgotten line They can slip away from us so quickly Don't be unkind I'm not complaining I only feel it needs explaining Though I've said it all before I'll say it once again (one more time) Everyone needs something to believe in So turn around, turn around it's on the other side Feel the sound, feel the sound, it's coming from deep inside It will fill you with emotion, if you let it be your guide so Turn around; turn around, it's on the other side I'm waiting for the day to end another to begin Somehow I've forgotten what it stood for I look into your face and see the searching in your eyes I will…
Got to see all original members concert in 1990 in Atlanta. Concert was held at Center Stage (it’s under a different name now), great venue. There weren’t any seating down front, so we got to stand down in front of the stage and rock out. Got to stand right in front of Kerry. Memory for a lifetime.
I too saw the Monolith tour in 1979 at the old Capital Center in Landover Md ,,, my late brother took me as well as many other concerts back then ,, thank you Jeffrey ,, I miss you terribly ,, RIP
They will playing the song The Wall at my funeral. That song has such a deep emotional meaning to me on so many levels. I have loved it ever since it came out as a teenager.👍
My new, old song. I don’t have the ability to express what the lyrics to their music means to me. Always a fan but when younger only heard the instrumental not the long so much and the meaning of the lyrics. Extraordinary.
I still love "Monolith." Don't care what the critics say. Thought it was brilliant musically, lyrically, visually. And can I say? I'm biased. But I still think Steve Walsh and Cheap Trick's Robin Zander have the best rock voices I've ever heard.
Still remember seeing this tour. Walsh made people cry on the chorus of Angels Have Fallen. But the most striking thing of the entire show was when it ended. I've been to a lot of concerts, seen all the great bands, but as people exited the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh PA, you could hear a pin drop as everyone was whispering, because of what they just saw.
Here mourning Robbie Steinhardt who delivered a blistering solo on this song. They were amazing live and their studio albums are sweet nectar to my ears with all the garbage polluting the airwaves these days. This is how its done kids. Hard work and dedication to their craft, not a bunch of computers and autotune drivel..
Kansas is one of the most talented bands to ever write and record music. Genius songwriting and unmatched talent on every instrument. Their music stands the test of time and always strikes a chord emotionally and lyrically. Steve and Robby singing together was always magic! Still my favorite band...
David Hope is such a great bass player. His riffs are always so tight, crystalline and magical. However he never seems to get the credit he deserves. Even in this video they show everyone several times except him. Even the crazy guy wearing the mask gets featured here at least 3 times, lol. David just cooly stands in the back, out of the spot light while laying down his rock solid bass lines giving every song a solid foundation, kind of like the captain of the ship.
Great comment. Hope is a superb bassist, but on all the videos from Monolith, he's only dimly perceived in the background, if at all. (In the video for "People of the South Wind, there's one close-up, but it's of the back of his head!!) I can't help but wonder if it's because he was going through the lowest point of his addictions around this time, and perhaps his face didn't look so good. In his prime, he had one of the great handlebar mustaches in all of rock.
Agreed that many of Dave Hope's bass lines (particularly the ones he plays with a pick) are unique and Glixman getting his mix out front sounds like a third lead guitar at times. Kirshner did not like scruffy, irreverent, uncouth, obnoxious, frequently loaded or drunk "Smoking' Dave" Hope. He was the band's MC for a long time and after they signed with Kirshner it became Robby and Hope had his mic taken away and I don't think it was just a coindence. I bet the same thing for about the same reason is why he is not shown in videos so much? Just my educated guess?
Dave's work on the Song For America and Leftoverture albums are extraordinary, listen closely when you hear songs from those albums, artistry and then some. Hope often doesn't show in videos or concert videos because he'd always stand behind Kerry and his keyboards.
Robbie fills in with the harmony to Steve's voice perfect.
The group , Kansas , is completely underestimated..... In my opinion it's one of many iconic bands
Prog fans like them

Favorite band of the 70's. We all had pioneer decks in our cars with Kansas blasting.
This was the first tour I got to see and they just blew my mind. Blew my tiny little mind to pieces. Seeing them live changed everything!
Rise oh my Snake it is now is the hour of the Hooded and Holy, Ineffable Flower!
Sheesh. 👏
Welcome...my favorite band.. they'll never get the recognition they deserve.. they have a documentary called miracles out of nowhere...
Welcome to Kansas, enjoy the journey.
The Walsh/Steinhardt vocal blend was killer! Up there with Anderson/Squire IMO.
Thats a fair comparison.
Maybe the are very popular,
but at the same time, they are very underated on how great they were.
I saw them in 1981 in frejus (south France)...unforgettable...Steve Walsh's voice on this one is stunning...Especialy at the end...
My favorite band forever. Such a poetic prog. rock band , very uplifting. They rock , do it all.
this song should have billions of views .... just proves the elementarity of the new generation ... SO SAD...............
It is very pleasant to play guitar on the backing track of Kansas
Fantastic Kansas!
Ma kako se samo dosetiš?! Bravo! 👏👏👏
I’m still left speechless at the gifts snd talents of all these guys ! They all were the best ever ! They don’t make real music like this anymore 🤩 I have so many emotions every time I listen to them ! I wish we had more live video !! Love these guys I almost feel like their part of my family !
Some of their songs were so Soulful. The Wall, Miracles, Anthem...
I'm 62 now and have seen Kansas oh...maybe 8 or so times, I'll be seeing them again soon,
GOD BLESS this band!
Sam, thanks for the story. I remember buying Starcastle's first album and reading about the truck accident on the jacket of the LP, and here you witnessed that very show!
Normally I am telling my stories but I sure enjoy hearing them as well and you have a good one
Kansas is definitely one of the greatest bands of all time. Just totally brilliant....
Notice that their songs were like poems with a meaning. Try that with today's music. Amazing lyrics by Steve and Kerry.
Kerry Livgren became a Christian..as did Dave Hope....but i think it isnt accurate to call them a " band for Jesus Christ "
I think they wanted to say even more than they did. It's not like they were a worship choir or anything, but they were doin' their thing. It's pasted all over their albums. Their was definitely a message trying to come across, and it was pretty epic. Most of all in Wayward Son, in my opinion
"The answers are so simple and we all know where to look
But it's easier to just avoid the question
And if I seem too inconclusive
It's just because it's so elusive.."
Kansas WAS NOT a cristian band until Steve leave
Nicholas Vieira They were never a Christian band.
Favorite Band Of All Time..🙏❤❤❤
Know You Put A Smile On Father Gods Face..😁😍😇
This song represents me. I love her so much that I even mention her in my book.
Steve wore the same gym shorts in Johnstown, PA. I was Front Row. Although I've said it all before, I'll it once again, Everyone needs something to believe in aka Jesus.
Wow,1979.I have to admit.I did not know they made these videos. But im glad the y did.
The second turning point for Kansas! Very underrated album! After this album, they became more pop/neo prog, mainstream!
Kansas second most underrated song next to Hymn to the Atman-
their 2 best songs in my opinion-
they both say it all
Wow, Steve on that last note. Love this song, never saw the video before.
Happy 50th Anniversary Kansas
Lyrics
The empty page before me now, the pen is in my hand
The words don't come so easy but I'm trying
I'm searching for a melody or some forgotten line
They can slip away from us so quickly
Don't be unkind I'm not complaining
I only feel it needs explaining
Though I've said it all before I'll say it once again (one more time)
Everyone needs something to believe in
So turn around, turn around it's on the other side
Feel the sound, feel the sound, it's coming from deep inside
It will fill you with emotion, if you let it be your guide so
Turn around; turn around, it's on the other side
I'm waiting for the day to end another to begin
Somehow I've forgotten what it stood for
I look into your face and see the searching in your eyes
I will…
The meaning of life; one in search of himself and his faith. Jesus Christ. . . he is not to be denied
I once (back in the day) heard Kerry say he wrote this to his wife.
@@lonobannoniii1123 i know he wrote".. hold on "for his wife..
@@markmom9017 Or just a real way to say he had writers block.
Love is all She wrote.
Kansas for ever in Warsaw end in Sopot in POLAND. BYLEM TAM!!!!!!!!
Kein großer Zinnober...sie standen da und sangen mit so einer unglaublichen Stimme und Sound. Die 70 er...
Got to see all original members concert in 1990 in Atlanta. Concert was held at Center Stage (it’s under a different name now), great venue. There weren’t any seating down front, so we got to stand down in front of the stage and rock out. Got to stand right in front of Kerry. Memory for a lifetime.
That beginning sounds grandiose and regal!
Steve Walsh at his best. I was at the Monolith tour in '79, that was actually his outfit back then. Unforgettable music.
I too saw the Monolith tour in 1979 at the old Capital Center in Landover Md ,,, my late brother took me as well as many other concerts back then ,, thank you Jeffrey ,, I miss you terribly ,, RIP

Yeah there’s a picture of me in 76 in about the same outfit. Same hair too. Thought it looked good then but don’t ask me to ever share that picture
@@jeffking887 I'd love to see! :D
Amata Jo I had the shirt Ben Affleck wears in Dazed and Confused, when he gets the paint poured on him. That looked GOOD👍😉
This and The Wall are my favorite Steve Walsh's vocal performances
I agree with that analogy but I would also add Lonely Street and Hold On
Incomudro Hymn to the atman
They will playing the song The Wall at my funeral. That song has such a deep emotional meaning to me on so many levels. I have loved it ever since it came out as a teenager.👍
For me, it’s People of the South Wind and Closet Chronicles..!!!🇺🇸
The Wall is so powerful. One of my favorites too.
My new, old song. I don’t have the ability to express what the lyrics to their music means to me.
Always a fan but when younger only heard the instrumental not the long so much and the meaning of the lyrics.
Extraordinary.
The band I've seen the most. Kansas musuc is the soundtrack of my life.
Masterpiece is all I can say.....
I hear u. Music today has no creativity ,
Still alive sweetie?

freaking awesome skill and incredible music. Too bad music of today can't match this.
Fantastic Kansas-Track and one more great Steve Walsh performance. :-)
Best American Prog band, Ever!
the best band not in the rock and roll hall of fame, hands down
RIP Robbie.
A very moving and introspective piece of lyrical euphony. My admiration for the exceptional work that Kansas produced will never fade away.
Every generation has their own music.
Eternally grateful this is mine.
Man , the could create some Awesome songs . Musical. Genius . Great. Vocals .
Hope often doesn't show in videos or concert videos because he'd always stand behind Kerry and his keyboards.
i agree - Kansas second most underrated song next to Hymn to the Atman-
