A lot of the music in The World Ends With You is "Radio Music" When your running around Shibuya these tracks play, like your listening to the radio. In the First game, the main character Neku was always wearing headphones, so I like to think that the music you hear when traversing Shibuya the music that plays is actually what Neku is listening to. The tracks in these games give me a distinct 2000's vibe, probably because the first game came out in 2007, and drew from modern music at the time. Neo, the sequel, kept a lot of these aspects from the first game and I love it for it!
@@The_Evening_Sun sort of complicated. Ditched them at the end of the game. Picked them up again during the beginning and during new day (unless coco gave them to him somehow, but he has them on either way when they’re back in the RG officially). Doesn’t have them in Neo. Which means they somehow got to Shibuya from Shinjuku. Probably Coco taking them back. In some of Neo’s (before officially having the plot we know now, most likely covering Neku’s time in Shinjuku) concept art/scrapped ideas we see Neku wearing the headphones. Like I said earlier, I think Coco took them back to Shibuya on one of her trips. She probably lost them and the owner of Jupiter of the Monkey was able to pick them up. This has never been confirmed and it’s what I theorize.
To be fair they REALLY dropped the ball on marketing this game and then also after a lukewarm release BECAUSE of the horrible advertising they basically said "well, guess no one like this style game, we're not making any more after this one cuz of that, oh well"
MGSV also won best OST in the same year as Bloodborne. The winners of VGA are always just the biggest hyped up games or the ones that Geoff is friends with.
"The World Ends With You" and it's sequel, "Neo: The World Ends With You", have BY FAR the most underappreciated OSTs. I recommend giving as much of it a listen if you can. The composer, Takeharu Ishimoto, did some amazing work for those two games.
Playing this game right now and yeah the ost is nothing but bangers. A lot of the music definitely has that early to mid 2000's rock/hip hop feel to it. Storm, Transformation, and The One Star are all tracks I think you'd enjoy as well.
hey, it's that song I can't stop looping. fun fact, this game has a mechanic where you can make the BGM get extra beats caled "sound surf" if you can listen to that version of the OST it's even better. oh and this song is one of the battle themes, the setting is shibuya in japan.
The music is Takeharu Ishimoto, the lyrics are Matt Furda, and the vocals were by Mas Kimura. The music in this game is pretty varied, from rap to pop to metal. The game is a sequel to the original TWEWY and is a jrpg set in modern Shibuya, with a strong emphasis on music and sound, as well as fashion and pop culture in general with a strong supernatural element. It is also the passion project of Tetsuya Nomura, more well known for Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts.
Shibuya Survivor, Bird in the Hand, Unpainted, The World if Yours, We're Losing You. No doubt the singular best OST from 2021, so many of their songs are incredible.
This song is a crystallization/tribute of 2000s rebellious teen metal ... and I love it. The whole soundtrack of NEO: TWEWY is a really good throwback to the first part.
Yes, finally!! This series means so much to me, it helped me get through a hard part of my life so I owe a lot to it. The gameplay story and music are all connected like no other game I have ever played.
Oh my god you don't know how happy i was when i saw the game in the title. This game's OST is REALLY amazing, my 3rd favorite actually. I usually can tell the difference between "Real" songs and VGM, but one song in this game threw me for a loop because it sounded really nostalgic. This OST is different from other games it's kinda refreshing. I really recommend (almost) all the songs in this game because they are all amazing. Sadly this game underselled and didn't get any awards (Criminal). I heard they hired various musicians to compose for this game, so they have various genres and singers ranging from pop, rock, metal, 90's gothic rock, etc. This song is one of the battle themes, every battle there is a chance that you will get a different song. This is the same for when you're exploring after finishing a battle/pressing the menu. P.S. You can "sprint" with the beat of the music that's playing in the game and it adds more beats, that's cool.
It's actually really interesting that it sounded formulaic to you because this is one of the main themes and one of the main story elements is the main group developing special powers and the MC's being time travel, and in the background notes provided by the higher powers observing the events of the game it says that the MC has so little personal conviction or direction (with his friends being the only reason he's really doing anything hero-y, rather than being driven by his own beliefs) that it's the reason he got those powers, and he eventually has to overcome the consequences of relying on them all game and make a choice for himself while he's all alone. I should listen to the end boss song and see if it's more experimental.
This series has easily some of the best osts in any game imo, I'd love to see more twewy on this channel Breaking free is pretty good though far from the peak of this series
Hey!! Alex Moukala's video today had this song in it as well, a great coincidence. This game seems to have so many awesome songs in it, I love the sound track and I've never played the game before.
The acoustic version of this (done also by Mas Kimura, the vocalist) is also good even if it was just a teaser :) The soundtracks from this game is also underrated.
I am immediately disappointed that I can't get this game on steam. This song is so good! Just another reason that I need to get a Switch now. Also the Trivium drop, love the band. Funnily enough Like Light To Flies is one of my favourites from them
I remember hearing this song and being transported back to my middle school/high school days with bands like Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, and some (not all) Linkin Park. This song made for a video game in 2021 that, like you said, felt like a song for radio made me so nostalgic!
I think one of the best songs Ive come across in a video game has to be: Shin Megami Tensei Digital Devil Saga 2- Divine identity. Would love for you to react to it one of these days. Love your work!
If we're going to go down the rabbit hole that is the TWEWY OST you should look up Twister and Calling. Both of these songs were iconic from the first game and got remixes for the sequel. When they dropped the trailer for NEO people lost their minds when Twister dropped in it.
It's one of the early battle themes of the game and composer is Takeharu Ishimoto. I believe it is an in-house composition but with hired vocals. Whether you're wandering around the streets of Shibuya or fighting off monsters, almost all the songs are meant to sound like something you'd hear on the radio which would explain why it sounds so much like a song you'd heard before with such a common musical structure. It made more sense in the first "The World Ends With You" game since it's implied that it's the music that the main character is hearing in their headphones, "NEO: The World Ends With You" being the sequel.
Mmm... is hard without entering in spoiler territory (and the one I played was the first game anyway) but you could resume it as emo-rebellious teenagers trying to survive and "get their shit together" in a society like Japan, that pressures you to not be different from the others. The scenario is Shibuya, and the OST is pretty much what you would listen in a radio in lots of styles, but have in common that if the track have lyrics, the lyrics will be in the lines of "nobody understands me" that these teenagers will listen to. It was an amazing game (with an amazing OST) when I played the first game... but I was that emo teenager back then, too, so it resonated with me a lot more than it does now.
This is defiantly one of my favourite, maybe even my favourite from out of both TWEWY and Neo:TWEWY, and that's what I love about both games, is because the music is almost never just instrumental, mostly every piece has vocals, so I can jam along! This, in any case, is literally just a normal battle theme lol (Edit: also forgot to mention, the outtro is more smoother, it's just this video for some reason ends it very abruptly, not letting it fade it lmao)
Aw yeah! I think I requested this a few weeks ago but forgot I did so until now! I’m so glad you’re listening to it! EDIT: to answer your question, this is a battle theme but also clearly doubles as a specific character’s theme due to the words of “I know I’m not the perfect boy you want/pushed me to be” and others like that. Coincidentally, this character’s arrival in your team allows you to dash around the map and build up your combo meter by tapping in time with the music.
Check out TWEWY music too! They have different variations from the DS and Switch version. Thanks to its crossover with KH, it has a few KH remixes available.
I think you should play the game for yourself to see how the music is implemented ! It might blow your socks off, the TWEWY series' use of music is quite unique ! This is one of the regular battle themes in this game !
I like that many of the ost has mostly nothing a like with the game, the game has variety of genres to rap, rock, techno, jpop, etc. This songs that are mostly vocal plays while you're in around the map in the battles and can be any song it's around the final part of the game that the theme of the songs are kinda related to what's happening but the essence of having nothing to relate with the current moment is still there.
NEO TWEWY was a nice entry. TWEWY is overall just really good. Would never say it's a bad RPG series, but compared to say Bravely, I'd say I overshadow my opinions on the series a lot. Musically great though!
Song mentioned in this video;
Trivium - Light Light To The Flies

Now please Deja Vú or Calling from The World Ends With You
Man please react to Promise and Love Psalm from Silent Hill 2. There are the best songs in the series.
Thanks! 👍

And this is why with headphones is the only proper way to play TWEWY.
@@wesnohathas1993 Neku ditches his headphones at the end of the game though.

never forget this ost wasnt even nominated last year. VGAs rigged af
Nothing new, the VGAs _usually_ end up giving the awards to generic licensed music. Not always, but usually. And that's very sad.

This song is a battle theme, it plays while you are fighting monstrous animals in the street, and it really fits with that.

YEAH BABY!
I love this song. It's such an emo belter and would be great at karaoke sessions.
As for context, this song plays during some battles.
Ik this video is years old, but its great to see you review one of my favorite OSTs ever!

For the record I did ask for this a few times in the comment section but I am poor so I couldn’t request it via PayPal or patreon

Personally of the different Neo TWEWY songs, my favorite is Insomnia, it's so addicting even in it's synthy style.
Hes not wrong the ending is ment to loop into the intro, he's good. I love this game and its music.
Bird in Hand and CHASE are some of my faves from this game.

Reminds me of something from the early to mid 2000’s. Like Breaking Benjamin or something

Oh my God Breaking Free!!
Your kind spot on. This play during a alley fight lmao
You should check out the other one in the ost called "Storm"
Holy crap...ive been putting off playing this game too long. Might dive into it right after im done with ToCSIV.
Just finished the game and the OSR is nothing but bangers.
I recommend "Last Call"!!

React to more music from this game! It's amazing.

The ending sounds so jarring because all the music in The World Ends With You is supposed to loop, since you have music on at all times in that game.
Give twister a go
Try farming lost ark hype and react to astalgia of phantasma lol
I requested you react to chaos king from deltarune on PayPal a week or so ago
Idk if you're aware, but I've been doing requests from October still in order I get them. There's about 600 before yours, sorry.
I’m going to find one in Spanish for you 😂 jk
The first game was for 3ds and the second one Neo is for switch and ps4
