    A strong independent person who took matters into her own hands. She needed to survive in a world that eats you up and spits you go. She is my favorite singer.

      Exactly, in 1979 when she realized she was being ripped off by Berry, she went back to school to learn how to take matters into her own hands. Has faced a ridiculous amount of criticism despite her obvious gleaming musical and show biz talent, and numerous accolades and successes.

    Beyond the joy of hearing first hearing and seeing her in The Supremes, Diana has been an inspiration to me and my life. I am so inspired by her. Don’t look left, don’t look right and definitely don’t look back......go for your dreams!!!!

    She sounds like a person, at the time, about to turn 50 and a mother of 5. A person clear on her priorities. Obviously detached from her starting out as a teenager at Motown, Berry Gordy or a member of the Supremes, as that was a longtime ago, so she can only express it like a "memory". Almost like something you lived in another lifetime, because it's not something she is living now. She is a class-act. I've been in her company a few times and she's always been charming and approachable.

    Breathtakingly beautiful here, the guarded nature mentioned by several posters is to be expected. Diana deserves her privacy, she like a lot of other performers need to hold somethings back in their every day life, especially when u give soo much on stage.

    This is probably one of her very best interviews ever. Despite all the artifice about her life, her appearance, her legend, her legacy, she seems very real, dare I say, authentic here. Well done, Charlie.

    I have always thought Diana Ross was and is one of the most guarded individuals I've ever known or read about and yet, in this interview with Charlie Rose, she comes across as more human and reflective than I've ever seen her. I don't think the long interview she did with Oprah revealed as much as this one has or maybe it was simply different because Oprah was coming from a much different place and so was Ms. Ross...in the answers she gave. I have been privileged to see her in concert several times and she is, absolutely, a consummate performer. She is also as beautiful and larger than life as you think she might be. Her audiences adore her and with good reason. When she goes into her "Ain't No Mountain High Enough - Reach Out & Touch" medley, the audience is already on the floor just waiting for her to come o touch them personally. There is much about her I'd love to know but everyone is entitled to their innermost thoughts and even their little secrets. I think it is still the situation with The Supremes...her relationships with Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson...as well as her liaison with Berry Gordy and Diana's departure from the group that stick in people's craws and what they'd most like to know much more about.

    Miss Ross is quite a woman: a classy, elegant, gracious, supermom who adores her kids, a sensational entertainer who truly knows how to connect with her audience. I don't think I've ever seen a performer look more comfortable on stage than Diana Ross. There's also another side of her that one can sometimes detect in interviews like this one. She gives off moments where she's terribly secure and vulnerable and sometimes she has this look like she's a cornered panther and will strike at any second. There's something very coy and feline about Miss Ross and it's irresistible! Meow ;-)

She is focused and sober, introspective and articulate! She doesn't spew her usual rhetoric, and she looks PHENOMENONAL! WOW, WOW, WOW!!!

  • @MickeyDs14
    @MickeyDs14 7 років тому +90

    Diana seems like someone who has been guarded because she made some mistakes and people won't let her live them down. No matter what, none of us were there when those things happened. And this interviewer wasn't terrible, but he seems to be really invasive with the Berry Gordy stuff. Everything has been said and I don't think there's more than we already know. It seems pretty cut and dry. People can't expect her to be so open when they won't let her live down her past. Very rarely do people criticize Berry for his role in everything.

    It's So Ironic That A Lot Of Stars Talk About Being Lonely .. Whitney Has Talked About It .. Michael Has Talked About It, And Diana Talked About It In This Interview. Idk Why But That Sparked My Curiosity As To Why. Like She Said Here They Perform For Millions Of People .. Most Stars Have An Entourage Of People With Them Constantly Especially When On Tours And Such But A Lot Of The Huge Superstars/Icons Like Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, And Diana Ross Talk Bout Felling Lonely Or Being Alone. I Feel Like When You Are That Talented And Have So Many People Pulling You In So Many Different Directions It Feels Like You Are Alone .. No One Around You Has To Go Through What You Go Through On An Everyday Basis Because You Are Such An Icon In People's Eyes. No One But Them Truly Understands What It's Like To Be That Huge And For Everyone To Know Your Name And Have Their Own Opinions About You. I Guess That's Where The Lonely Feeling Comes From .. Feeling Like No One Around You Understands What You Have To Constantly Go Through

    PEOPLE STILL HATE ON DIANA ROSS STRONG IS HECK SHE HUMAN SHE NOT PERFECT WHO IS. BUT STILL WHO YOU TO JUDGE HER HARSHLY TO TURN PEOPLE AWAY FROM HER IT JUST DRAWS THEM EVEN CLOSER TO HER JUST CUS YOU TRY TO PUT HER IMPERFECTIONS ON FRONT STREET. HER ACCOMPLISHMENTS HAVE NOTHEN TO DO WITH THAT. I SEE HER POSITIVE CONTRIBUTIONS. I CHOOSE TO BE INSPIRED BY THOSE ICONIC MOMENTS IN TIME. WHATS WRONG WITH PEOPLE TODAY. GIVE PEOPLE THERE JUST DO. THEY DID IT WITHOUT BREAKEN ANY RULES. THRU HARD WORK DEDICATION MOTIVATION AND STRONG BELIFE THEY COULD MAKE IT OUT OF A TUMULTUOUS DAY AND TIME. IN THEY DID. THEY EARNED APPLAUDS AND CREDIT FOR THEIR PERSEVERANCE. IN SO I TRY TO RELAY IT AS BEST I CAN. I HEAR PEOPLE SPEAK BAD OF HER I WOULD NEVER INTERVENE OH NO I JUST LOOK AT THEM BUT I THINK IN THERE HEARTS THEY NO HER MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

    They seem a little bit flirtatious with one another. In the 90's, every male interviewer seemed a bit fascinated with Diana's sweet allure. David Letterman in 1995 was almost inviting her to his bed. And you can see a little bit of sexual tension between Charlie Rose and Diana here, especially between 20:40 - 21:40.

    Loved this great interview. I remembered watching and recording this episode of Charlie Rose in 1993. Noticed how guarded Miss Ross was and how carefully selected her responses were. Wished that she had released that document-drama about her life, career and her thoughts about it all. Hopefully, she'll go on tour again to do a Q & A session like she did once many years.

    All that hair on Diana's head is overwhelming and shields the natural beauty in her face. Charlie Rose on the other hand OMG, time is not our friend. I had forgotten how handsome this man was 35 years ago. It was also interesting to be allowed into the heads of two egomaniacal celebrities establishing self worth towards the end of the interview when Charlie said to Diana, one more question and then I'm going to leave you, and Diana quickly replied, leave me, I'm going to leave you. LOL, funny, but very interesting to observe.
