- Pinocchio is the latest Disney Animated Movie that Disney have adapted into a Live Action Remake, which stars Tom Hanks as Geppetto.
Its time to compare yet another Disney Animated movie with a Disney Live Action Remake. Its time to compare Disney's animated classic, Pinocchio to the Live Action Remake, Pinocchio.

Don’t forget to give the video a 👍 as it REALLY does help… I’m gonna go to bed now. Its 3AM, that’s how long I have been waiting for this video to export and upload. (Hence I am saving up to buy a new computer)
I really hope you guys enjoy the video!
Take Care!
God timezones are confusing. It's 10:00pm here in ohio but where you are it's 3:00am.
Great video agree with your thoughts
Cheers on saving up for a new computer. Hope it will really help your schedule and work.
Great video. Original is usually better. Just curious, would you be interested in doing a versus video on West Side Story? I think it’s one of the very few times where the remake actually stands a chance against the original and I would love to see your thoughts.
Have a good sleep then
Bro, even disregarding the visuals, the idea of a kid screaming for his mother as his last ever words is one of the most depressing and horrifying things you’ll probably ever see.
And they couldn’t even get THAT right in the remake! Because God forbid we scare away the little kids we want to buy our toys!!!
Making kids see horrible things is important. They learn that life can be sad and not all adults are kind. This message is not in the remake but Pinocchio smelling poop is... great idea Disney 😒Why putting an interresting scene while a lame joke is easier?
It’s crazy how the remake is longer than the original, yet it keeps rushing through everything.
The Jungle Book and Cinderella are, in my opinion, the BEST remakes Disney has made.
I think that as well
Though it’s not really a high bar all things considered
As well as Christopher Robin if that counts
@@skintgirafde320 still good instead of dogshit like the rest.
I agree with you. I also thought that 101 Dalmatians (1996) and Pete’s Dragon are great as well.
Absolutely loved this review and Pinocchio is actually my favourite Disney film of all time! But the only character you probably forgot to mention was Monstro.
In the original, Monstro was just a regular whale in the sea. But the speed, size and instinct is what makes Monstro so terrifying! And the only reason he goes after P&G was because they pissed him off. In fact, the whale was actually in charge of the entire pursuit! Sad that the remake had to dumb him down from a natural apex predator of the oceans, to a goofy mustache-twirling villain with cheap looking tentacles.
Thank you so much for this. This will actually help me with my own retelling of Pinocchio that I'm currently writing.
Good luck :)
Where can we read it?😊
@@sebicmiel4221 it's not ready yet. But when it is, I will post it and leave a link. Thank you for showing interest.
@@theladyligeia1219 I always love it when people embrace their creativity😊
If the purpose of these remakes are to make me appreciate the originals well needless to say they nailed it.
Disney could just re-release the original? They did in the 70s and 80s, hell, even the 90s, and it’s still relevant to this day.
I think it honestly is. Most people are saying they might be doing this as an excuse to extend copyrights, so you might be right on with this.
@@SeasonalGFilms except, they used to, and people stopped caring.
@@90sNath the remakes won’t even save the original cartoons from going to the public domain either.
They could idk remake them with better animation
Now i'm thinking of some modern day version of pinnochio with him pulling a 9mm out from under his pillow.
Correction: Pinocchio was not actually the second animated movie ever made. That title actually belongs to Gulliver's Travels (1939), which was produced by Paramount in response to the success of Snow White.
Wow. I didn't know that. Thanks for the info bud!
@@EricCarter12 You're welcome. I'd recommend watching that movie too, it's available to watch for free on UA-cam
Jesus christ, I didn't even know geppeto even owned a gun! 😆🤣
The major difference is the central theme, and most of the other flattening stems from this: In the original story as well as the first Disney movie, all the problems Pinocchio suffered were the results of his own bad decisions (whether stemming from his naivete or not). He chooses not to go to school, he chooses to drink beer, smoke cigars, and break things...he justly earned those jackass ears and tail. In the remake, Pinocchio is merely the constant victim of other people's avarice. It was not his choice to skip school, he was thrown out by a bigoted teacher. He didn't smoke cigars, drink beer, or break anything...it was totally unfair for him to be turned into a donkey. Victim, victim, victim.
The thing that disturbs me more is that 1940s Pinocchio is lighter than the original tale, like Jesus Christ
American prick
Not really
No battle original is better
No crap dude. Anyone with a brain knows the classic is better
@@slash10gamerofgamers82 evactly, thats what i' saying.
It's literally comparing Last Jedi to Empire Strikes Back
@@slash10gamerofgamers82 Exactly like I’m saying too, it’s like comparing something as badass as Fast & Furious with Dwayne Johnson to something as uncomfortable (for the love of god, Sam! Stop calling women and robots “cars”!) as Transformers 1-5 by Michael Bay.

Comparing original pinocchio to new pinocchio is like comparing a Rolls Royce to a Volkswagen.
Anyway I like how you showed the same clips from both movies and compared them. It really shows how much more superior the classic is to the original
When he said “Lightyear” Flopped that just hurt my heart but it’s true
The original is more spooky as an adult
These videos are getting better every time! Keep up the good work man!!
Thanks Jatin!! I put so much work into this so I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
@@EricCarter12 have you seen Guillermo del Toro Pinocchio?
Just about to watch another video, but when I saw a Versus video in my notifications, I stopped the other video when this Versus video came in my notifications. That's a personal rule with me.
The animated donkey transformation scene is far scarier because (1) the close-up shots and shadow shots are used during the appropriate times during the transformation, (2) the background music has a louder volume and stronger cresting melodies, and (3) every word of Lampwick's dialogue coincides with the beat of his actions. (It's not just blind panic with no direction.)
There was intent to the animated version, as if it was purposefully made to be scary. The live-action one occurs in a dark, almost monochromatic room, making the characters hard to distinguish from the set. It also has some relatively ineffective blocking direction for the actor and puppet, which makes the scene feel less intense.
Animated Donkey Scene: 😱
Live Action Donkey Scene: 🤣
While It's Obvious that the Original Pinocchio is the Best One from a Mile,It's a Iconic Classic with Some of the Darkest Moments in Disney History,The Remake like Lightyear and Multiverse of Madness,I didn't Hate,Is Solid at Best I didn't Despise it like Other Disney Live Action Remakes, but I do Wonder What's the Poor Unfortunate Future to the Remakes if the Little Mermaid Fails,All We can do is Wait and See to Find Out.
Man, that Coachman's scene where he menacingly tells Honest John "They never come back...as BOYS!" 😱 that used to freak me out so much as a kid that I would turn my head when he did that. It also brings that suspense of what do thr boys turn into once they get to Pleasure Island. I haven't seen the live action remake and have no desire to.
Lol, that scene edit wiht Gepetto "accidentally" shooting Pinocchio was evil, Eric, but clever! 🤣🤣👍👍
I watched another review of this and found out that the kids who went to Pleasure Island don't drink beer but root beer. I can't recall if they smoked, too, but that is ridiculous that Disney did that.
Imagine your nose growing every time you lie happening in real life.
Up next it's Guillermo's Pinocchio vs 1940 Pinocchio
Pros: pleasure island, honest John
Cons: everything else
This was a great video i give you 2 thumbs up. This was also one of my requests for you so thanks and your awsome.
Thanks buddy!
How many remakes will we get until they are bankrupt?
I love your analysis but this time I definitely think that the live action Pinnochio is Wonderful & Spectacular!
The old version is also amazing 👏
Thank you for this! Pinocchio 1940 is my all time favorite movie. I've watched it countless times and I never feel sick of it. The remake left a bitter taste in my mouth, I tried to like it (and do now) but I have to see them as two separate stories for me to enjoy the remake. I was ok with Sofia because I feel like the dove in the original is pretty forgotten. Sofia may not be a dove or sent by the Blue Fairy but, at least people will remember a white bird was in the movie ^^'>
I pretty much only see people hating the Pinocchio remake now. Understandable however, now I only see people ranting about the story. I feel like people think the original isn't worth talking about because viewers just want to be angry at the remake. So again thank you! It's nice to hear more opinions on the original movie and I think you hit the points spot on :)
Your very welcome buddy. :) I feel the exact same way hence I made this video.
Feel free to subscribe if you haven't as I would LOVE to have you as a member of the channel.
@@EricCarter12 Just saw your reply! You can bet I'm now a subscriber :)
You shoulda did a comparison with pinochio 1940 to the TV series pinochio from 2014 with bob hoskins
At this point, if Disney is losing more money than they were making back then, and honestly, sorta hope they do (as harsh as that sounds)
For once, they need to listen to their fans. That’s what Paramount did with the Sonic movie.
@@SeasonalGFilms although I agree with that, they should have their limit once they listen to the fans, they did that in She-Hulks finally in a way of how they acknowledge how the MCU has fallen, just in a crap way, there should be a limit when they listen to the fans. I mean, just look at the entire sonic franchise and how decisive all those games are
@@SeasonalGFilms but yeah, they should actually listen to the fans main complaints especially with how they botch their story’s
You can not beat the original clasic Pinocchio has allways been my favourite sinces I was little and still love it locking forward to woch the new remake
The 40s one is a blockbuster whereas the 2022 one is a lackluster.

@@user-wz7dp2xs4c Hocus Pocus 1 VS Hocus Pocus 2. Just in time for Halloween! 🎃

@@user-wz7dp2xs4c I haven't seen the movie yet. But from what I hear, it is a terrible sequel.
Hey Eric carter, I was wondering gonna do a Sonic vs video soon at all since the second film came out a few months ago?
About the coachman, I wouldn’t be surprised if the talking donkeys become his meals
As with the live-action Cinderella, Chris Weitz has written a script which thoughtfully enhances the world lovingly crafted by Walt Disney Productions.
You forgot to mention in side characters that the remake coachman has these strange smokey demonic goons who have absolutely no character and are only added in an effort to make the situation feel more unnerving.
Pinocchio wasn't the second ever animated film. I know there was at least Fleischer's Gulliver's Travels in 1939.
Snow white
Gulliver's Travels from 1939 technically is the 2nd animated movie ever made.
Pinocchio is the 2nd made by disney.
I have a question? Do you think you can do a comparison of the 3 Disney adaptations of the jungle book? There is the original, and there were the 1994 and 2016 remakes. I want to hear what you think about these 3 films?
eric are u excited for black adam. and what do u want to see in it
Hey eric will you do a review on Black Adam also love your channel bro.
I was hoping this would be closer to the book
I was planning on watching it. But I heard it was it worth it so I didn't even bother. Also no competition. The differences between the two donkey transformation scenes says it all...
You should compare this to the upcoming Netflix adaptation.
I'm sure everyone is dying to see that one. It's gonna be good anyway (not just because of Obi-Wan Kenobi) because of the heart that Guillermo Del Toro has put into it after so many years.
I mean Pauly shore is a qween
I'm still confused. The 1940 version of Pinocchio is rated G, but the 2022 version of Pinocchio is rated PG.
For why 2022 version is PG is because peril/scary moments, rude material and some language. for that scary moments you could think of that Donkey transformation or getting chased by Monstro for that example the for the rude material and some language I would think that would come from the Pleasure Island bit but I could be wrong plus but why the animated didn't get that rating at least? I would say ask the MPA, Motion Picture Association , that question.
beautiful sharing
I can't wait for Gueilmo Del Toro version of Pinocchio get its own Vs video against Disney Pinocchio (original & remake)
Since you pointed out the alice in wonderland book for me, I noticed right next to it Peter Pan so both of them where at least in their plans at this stage

Still haven't done the jungle book remake vs original
the 19 century one the nostalgia hits hard
The scene where Lampwick turns into an ass scares the hell out of me in both versions.
Although there are a couple of moments where it was scary, the live action version was more comical in how bad it was executed with that scene, at least in my opinion
@@jacindaellison3363 I covered my eyes in both scenes so I would not be scared.

Overall I liked the remake of pinocchio. If I were honest though, I am sick of Disney's narrative to change the side characters just to please people. I didn't mind the clocks featuring all the other characters from other stories. I am glad tom hanks got to play geppetto.
Lets be honest, the only reason this exists is because they thought if they released this this year they would divert attention away from del toro's. Which is ironic because its doing the polo opossite
Well surprised you have your Live Action Disney Remake guilty pleasure, as I am impressed in a way. We can agree the original Disney/animated version is better and timeless.
Curious, I do wonder will you discuss the Sonic 2 Movie in a future video? Or more Uncharted & Ratchet & Clanks films since they gotten film adaptions. I like to hear your opinions on them.
Eric Carter You know "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" premiered on Tuesday, December 21, 1937 whereas "Pinocchio" premiered on Wednesday, February 7, 1940. They came out 2 years apart!

Have you seen the stop motion Pinocchio directed by Guillermo Del Toro? If so, what did you think? If you haven’t seen it I highly recommend it.
I haven't seen it yet. How good was it?
@@EricCarter12 it’s honestly really great. I’m not gonna say it’s Del Toro’s best film because he’s done so many amazing films at this point but it might be one of the best versions of Pinocchio ever. It’s easily the darkest in some aspects, especially since it takes place during Fascist Italy during World War II. Pinocchio himself can be VERY annoying at first but that’s part of his arc and he gets much better as the film goes on. Overall it’s a super emotional and mature version of the story that sometimes makes you forget it’s a PG film with how dark and graphic it gets. It’s one of the best animated movies from this year and easily the best Pinocchio movie this year (even though the bar was not high in that aspect).
Honest John in the live action remake reminds me of Clayface from the Harley Quinn animated seriea
Cruella wasn't a re-make it was a Prequal. Also there was already a 101 Dalmations back in the 90's
What pissed me off was the ending of the remake. They pull a rip-off scene from Tangled which is way better storytelling than the trash puppet remake.
Let's hope Guillermo del Toro's Stop Motion animated version of Pinocchio would do justice.
