  • I wanted to adjust the position of my 25' Cobalt 250 on the trailer but I didn't want to have to splash the boat. So lifted the boat up off the bunks and made some adjustments. I also added some UHMWPE slides to the bunks while I was at it.

    Thanks! Worked great! I did one more step. After I lowered the front of the boat/trailer, I then Jacked up the back of the trailer until I started to see some stress in the trailer. This was to ensure I was taking into account the "lift" from the trailer suspension. I could not get enough clearance on teh back of the boat until I added this step. Thank you for the vid, was great help.

    Wow! Impressive. My 17’ boat sits very slightly off on the trailer, so the bow doesn’t quite fit the yellow rubber bumper perfectly. Now, I will do what you did to solve this. I would not have thought of doing this, until you showed us how you did it. Thanks for making this video.

    Clever lever approach by dropping the trailer tongue- nice stone wall

    I had just done a version of this. I bought a new trailer and the boat was on blocks. I had to jack the boat up a long way and shim my blocking very often. Eventually I bought some boat stands and these made the project much less difficult and much more safe. I find jacking a large heavy and awkward load like a boat quite stressful but with the stands a lot less so.

    Seems to me launching the boat would be easier. Also, always make sure to use glides that screw on the sides to eliminate the possibility of screws backing out and ruining your gel coat.

    Be careful with that style of plastic sliders i had them on my trailer and over time the screws backed out slightly and wore holes in the gellcoat. I won't use anything that screws down from the top now

      i jam replacing the aluminum bunks on the front of my grady white trailer because they were stolen. the main bunks had the black stuff like you mentioned that wrap about an inch down and attach to the side of the bunk. i just figured that was because they were aluminum. im using glide sliks on the ones im replacing that screw from the top. couldnt find the ones that attach from the sides. oh well, i guess ill have to carry a screwdriver with me and check at landing or maybe just use a ton of locktite on the screws when i install them. thanks so much for the tip. never would have thought of that in a million years.

    Can someone tell me if my trailer is leaning back would I still be able to attach it to the ball hitch. Just bought a new boat and the boat and trailer are leaning back kind of higher then where the hitch would be

      you should be able to lower the tongue using the tongue jack. If the tongue jack is not touching the ground that you have different problems and your trailer is not safe to pull. Hope this helps!

    Hey there it’s 2023.. I’m painting the bottom of my 25 foot day cruise (3000 pound weight); there’s no issue lifting my boat from the bottom with a block like you did with that much weight? Newbie here.. the hill will hold?

    • @SlideruleRacingProducts
      @SlideruleRacingProducts  3 роки тому +1

      Say what you want about my process, but this is how hulls are supported at boat manufacturers and marinas everywhere. In fact, adjustable boat stands are rarely placed in locations as strong as where the transom and chine intersect - as I have in the video.

      @@SlideruleRacingProducts I work at a marina. While it's true that we like to put blocks in the stern, we always put a pair of backstands down there. I mean if it were my boat, I would get some 8x8 blocks in the stern, along with two backstands, and a pair of 3 foot stands in the bow area with more 8x8 blocks.
      again, thats how I would do it. The way you did it worked so im not going to knock you. good job.

    I see you added more support to the front keel bunk. My trailer is set up the same way for my 28' NauticStar as your boat is and I feel its not right. Looks like you added a 4x4 under it. How did you secure it down?

    • @SlideruleRacingProducts
      @SlideruleRacingProducts  3 роки тому

      I had lag bolted it to the cross bar. Since this video was taken, though, I've since upgraded to forward bunks which is better. It helps align the boat much easier when pulling onto the trailer. Good luck!

      * Perhaps, one could block the boat, then completely deflate the tires and lower the tongue accordingly. Might get you the clearance you need without jacking the boat up. Just a thought.

    what did you end up with for the TW? couldn't see the back fully, but it looked like your weren't quite even with the back of the boat on the bunks. i'm ever so slightly adjusting my R5 on a Venture trailer... very similar setup.

    In the last few frames looking under boat. Why is their light between the bunk and bottom of boat? Isn't the keel not suppose to be sitting on front roller?

    • @SlideruleRacingProducts
      @SlideruleRacingProducts  3 роки тому

      If you are talking about 6:07ish, where there is space at the top edges of the V-shaped 'bunk' then the keel is on that bunk at the keel, but the v of the bunk is a different angle than the hull, so it doesn't touch at the top edges. When the winch is cranked fully, the hull was not touching the roller, but in this case I hadn't fully wrenched up on the winch yet, so it may appear that there was more weight on the roller than there should be. Since this video, though, I replaced the front lower roller and v-bunk with forward bunks, which work much better than the arrangement in this video.

    I'm not trying to sound pessimistic but removing the bunks to install the slides is a bad idea...
    Your trick to raise the boat while on the trailer to adjust the bunks is the best way to do just that, adjust the bunks.
    Could have installed the slides on your next boating trip when your boat is in the water, just have to bring a drill with a screw driver bit along.
    Just saying as to promote safety

    • @SlideruleRacingProducts
      @SlideruleRacingProducts  6 років тому

      I wanted to get this project done without waiting 8 months when the boat was going back in the water. I needed to move the bunks anyways to get them adjusted better to be closer to the strakes and adjust them for the boat being further forward on the trailer, so it made sense for me. I would never have taken this project on *just* to put the slides on. That wasn't the main purpose.

      Not around here! Closest place for this size boat is about 3 hours round trip. Going in and out over and over with this boat and trailer combo would be stressful and cost me $20 each pull and I would have been guessing on the best width for the bunks. Thanks for the helpful comment, though!

  • @DeepSnowRider
    @DeepSnowRider 2 роки тому

    That trailer setup kind of sucks. Get rid of that 1980’s keel roller and get some bunks to support the keel up forward and a boat of that size replace the bow roller with a cow/bow catcher.

    sir, great idea, but it was an ems call waiting to happen. next time please buy and use some 6x6 boards with cross braces side by side forward or back. i know you werent dumb enough to put you arm between that heavy ass boat and the trailer and you worked from underneath but wandering kids and dogs dont. not preaching, just saying after 15 years ive been to more than a couple similar calls and its never the person aware of the danger whose entrapped. either way, nice boat bro, get the captains choice exhaust. i bet that would sound awesome.

    • @SlideruleRacingProducts

      Boat stand tripods wouldn't be able to pickup the hull with where the trailer was - I checked. As for the strength of the 'absurd stacks', I'm certain that the compressive strength of that stack exceeds any boat stand tripod ever used beneath a 25' bow rider.
