First I have to say this was a good installation video and I love the look of the hidden winch. That said, based on past experience I will never use this type setup again. Using a very similar setup on a different vehicle there are three main issues I had. First at least of them was the fact I couldn't disengage the winch to free spool the line out. With two people it's only a minor inconvenience that results in taking a little extra time. Alone it's a little more of an issue but not a deal breaker. Second issue is where I live you absolutely will be dunking the winch underwater frequently mounted that low. My first winch on that vehicle was used one time. The second time I needed it was after the warranty had expired and it didn't work. I later took it apart and got the internals cleaned up so it worked again but put it on a different vehicle and replaced it with a waterproof winch. I had only needed the winch to pull other people out and pull fallen trees out of the way for a few years. Then came the day I got stuck and needed the winch. Not only did the placement require me to get fully in the muddy water and feel around for the winch, when I did get near it I found it was buried into ground and had pushed a wall of mud up and was thoroughly packed in. I had to dig it out with only my head and back staying out of the water. My bumper wasn't submerged so if the winch had been mounted there it would have been fine. I do take responsibility for that miserable situation though because if I had run the cable out and had it hooked somewhere accessible I don't think it would have been a problem either. So far I've only seen one winch bumper I actually like on the new Bronco though and if I lived somewhere dryer this hidden winch might have me reconsidering my position on them. Like you said, it's good for what you plan on doing and that's what matters. Plus you got some better protection and it really is the best looking option to me.
Thanks so much! And what great feedback! You are absolutely correct. I do think some of the muddy spots may be a challenge. I think since I use the buddy system it will help to a degree. A big selling point to me was the looks and added protection. Rc did inform me it was "waterproof", since I was worried about that. To free spool I definitely see the challenge but.....may have a plan. Lol Thanks again for the fantastic comment!
Depending on the winch you can free spool it. The clutch lever is accessible from the top. You would just need to fabricate a shaft to move the lever up closer so you can grab it.
Glad to see ya got that winch and love the "hidden look". Now you are truly ready for almost anything! Enjoy!!!
Thanks Fred! I hope you're doing well!! We're definitely ready to find the new limits lol.
Liked how you let the girls in on the video. Yeah, my dilemma is insert or go big with new bumpers. Install looked straight forward and looks like it's just the time it takes.
That was totally organic. That is how they are 24/7. Don't know where they get it. Lol haha
Install was really easy. The frame cutting was a bit of a struggle.
This is a great car to take offroad...
Suitable for adventure on dirt roads...
There are definitely some big plans happening!
Wow great job man. This will come in handy on our future trips
Thanks! Totally agree, can't wait!
The winch isnt bad, mounting it this low means you will have to reach into the mud to get the hook. You can pre-stage it every time you go offroad but it can make knots in your synthetic line. I may end up doing it this way if i cant find a bumper that allows the lux and electronics pkg. Most bumpers do not and acc relocation is hit or miss.
Thanks for this!
Your very welcome! Thank you for watching!
I love this winch, hopefully they get a 2.7L compatible version soon so I can get it on my Badlands.
Definitely hope they do soon for you!!!
@@All_Things_Out_Doors I keep checking in on the website, but so far its nada.
I love this winch, it even looks like it's from the factory, but I don't like the fact of cutting body parts in a brand new vehicle, I wish someone had a hidden system without cutting, plus everytime you have to use it you will need to pop the hood and disengage the spool clutch with a stick or tube to reach down there, the only “easy” way to use the hidden system is with an remote clutch engaging system like the Warn 12-s winch
Would the factory tow loops (the ones that you removed) work with your hidden winch kit?
I believe I would have had to leave them off
Thank you for this! Do you have the 2.7L or 2.3L? Also, were there any videos you used as reference for the wiring underneath the hood?
Your very welcome!!! I do have the 2.3. The directions were pretty simple under for the wiring. It was very easy to understand once you see it. Basically hook it to the battery and mount the remote control plug in. Then make sure wires are out of the way of the motor. Thanks for watching!!!
Where did you mount the controller plug?
In the cab bottom right of steering wheel on the dash
Great video - you make it look so easy! I have an order in for an Everglades but I really want the 360° camera AND adaptive cruise AND a winch. Would this design interfere with those?
Thanks! @roughcountry did a great job simplifying the process. Frame cutting was tedious. I would suggest getting that out of the way while waiting on delivery. It should shouldn't get in the way of any sensors or cameras.
Great video.. There's not much on here for this is there, so this is so appreciated.
You said "Turbos". Does that mean this is the 2.7 engine?
I've seen another mount the hidden winch kit to the 2.7 but it still doesn't seem to be for sale from RC. Was yours also a pre-release kit, or is yours the 2.3 engine?
Also, any idea if there's room there for other brands of 12,000 winch? I've got a badlands Apex I'd like to use, and they look a very similar size, but, again.. Not sure. :/
Thanks!! This is the 2.3. It came with 2 turbos as well. I would say if it's similar size it could work. But I would definently recommend trying to compare them as much as possible. The other thing would be to look at where the free spool lever is located. If it's in a different spot...it may cause a bit of a challenge getting to it....maybe not though. Thanks for watching!!
@@All_Things_Out_Doors Oh, my mistake. I thought only the 2.7 had 2.
I know there's a lower intercooler, or oil cooler, or something that makes the two not fit quite the same, and as such, 2.7 people still have no option.. Worse with a lux package, as not only the camera is in the way of a front mounted winch, but the adaptive cruise control plate is right there where it would go too.. So no room for anything until someone figures something out.
The Apex is a very similar design, with the spool release on the same side. I'll try to find some measurements to compare.
Let me correct what I said. It is a twin scroll turbo. Sorry about that! Lol 😳
Is yours the 2.3 or 2.7L?
2.3
Is this on a V6 bronco??
No it's a 2.3
can you tell me the kit number you used thanks
I selected the hidden winch mount, w 12k pound winch, and tow hook mounts on roughcountry.com. There really wasn't a kit. They shipped everything needed to mount in that selection. Hope this helps
@@All_Things_Out_Doors yes thank you
does the gapfiller come with the kit guys at rough country dont seem to know anything about it
Ya it did w mine
where did the spacer for the intercooler come from
