  • Not many people who use Sketch know how to angle components in relation to a roof or a room. In this video, I show how to line up a gable roof ridge with a hip roof hip in a few easy steps.
    You can also use this shortcut that I demonstrate to rotate stairs, reference blocks, rooms, etc, in relation to other components - it's not limited to roofs only.
    Be sure to click Like below if you liked this video, so I know that I should keep making more quick Sketch tips like this one.

    Nice tutorial. I have a question about something I’ve encountered. I can create round rooms easily. My question is how to create a round conical roof. I can create a multi sectional conical roof up to 32 segments. How would you create a true conical roof?

      I actually don't know the answer to your question Don! I've seen someone in a Facebook group bend the roof, but I couldn't extract how exactly he was creating it. I'll keep an eye out and if I find the answer, I'll definitely make a video demonstrating it!

      Way old question I know, but somebody was just talking to me about this and I told them the same as I'm going to try and say here, IF you did a sectional conical with 32 segments than that's good enough in most situations, there are few round roofs, they look round, but just like xactimate they are actually just angled pieces of wood, the better lookin' the cone the tighter the cuts. Just remember to subtract the correct hip #s off your estimate or you'll end up with ALOT to much

    Hi. Can you make a sketch with a flat roof that has parapet walls with different heights? Thanks!

    I keep getting a snub nose when adding hip. As I make hip ext. larger it seems to create a snub on backside. Any info on that?

    I need a Gable Roof to make a turn approximately 45 degrees to the left, and also the single ridge not only turns to the left, but as it turns it goes from a 24' rafter down to a 20' rafter over a span of approximately 8 LF of ridge in the turn. The first section of the roof with the 24' rafters has a 10 pitch on both front and rear slopes, then as the home turns the second section of the home has the 20' rafters and has a 10 pitch on the front slope and a 9 pitch on the rear slope. Oh, and the front slopes are toward the center of the crescent shaped home, with the rear slopes facing outward. There is a third section of the home, but it's not nearly as challenging as this one. Of course there's no EagleView available, and I have Hover measurements, but this turn is really frustrating! Any help would be appreciated. I'd upload a photo of the Hover measurements if I could, 😄👍

      I would recommend getting with tech support at Verisk for this question. It would be easier for you to have a back and forth conversation with them about this issue. :)

      @@EstimateMastery I did actually figure out how to accomplish my sketch. It took some time and I had to use some flat roofs on the angle, but it came out great. Thanks for the reply! And thanks for your helpful videos!

    how do you create an eyebrow around a gable end or something? stumped.

    • @EstimateMastery
      @EstimateMastery  2 роки тому +1

      That is a great question! You could use a flat roof, with the correct pitch, and then change the roof eave height to the correct location. Also, Xactimate calls those eyebrows, cornice returns or cornice strips.

    How did you edit the sides? they don't match each other

    • @EstimateMastery
      @EstimateMastery  2 роки тому

      Hi Vy! The ridge of my gable and the hip were not perfectly aligned and that is why the measurements of the sides were different. To fix that you want to grab the gable intersecting roof, and really zoom to make sure that the ridge of the gable roof and the hip of the hip roof are perfectly aligned. Hope that helps!
