    Very nice. All these years of using XM and I never knew this was another way to sketch elevations. Thanks!

    Thanks! You explain things a lot better than any classes I've been in. Quick to the point and easy to understand.

    Rather than all of the additional steps of revising a room, I just use a reference area as the elevation. You can still add the additional reference areas for windows. Doors can be removed with the square break tool. For finding the pitch, just use the line tool 6/12 use a vertical 6 ‘ and a horizontal 12’ Thanks for the videos!

    It appears as the options for roof slope are limited. How would I set a specific slope?

      or you can add an exterior elevation by right click on main level and click on add exterior level.new tools appear.click on the exterior tool.then do a footprint of the house then hit 3d and your good to go.

    nice way to draw elevation

    What if the elevation has a notch (not sure if that’s the right word), but like a part of the elevation that either sticks out or goes in? How would that elevation be sketched? Could it be done in one diagram, or would it have to be sketched in more than one diagram? Hope this makes sense.

    Hey Alena, I noticed in X28 that if you right click on the "main level" tab at the bottom of the sketch and you can select "add exterior level" I've been searching online on how to use this feature but I can not find any information on how to use it. Do you have any insight?

    • @EstimateMastery
      @EstimateMastery  6 років тому +2

      I haven't used this tool, so I'll have to look into it more - seems like it isolates the exterior so you don't have to Sketch a room to estimate the exterior if there was no interior damage. I'll get more info and make a video soon! Thanks for your question :)

    This is a great video. What if a side of a house has a "bump out". how would you sketch that in elevation?

    • @EstimateMastery
      @EstimateMastery  4 роки тому

      I would use a room in Sketch to create that area in the plan view. This means you couldn't use the example from the video that was on the left side of the screen where I flattened the elevation - you would want to expand or bump out a room. You can use the Square Break tool to accomplish that or just add another room on, if you're just working with the exterior.

    Do you see where your wall reads "Front Elevation"? Can you move that around within the structure? It's right on top of my window.

    • @EstimateMastery
      @EstimateMastery  6 років тому

      Hey Bamm!! You sure can move those tricky lil names - first you have to click on the room. Then, hover over the red diamond next to the room name. While hovering with your mouse, hit your spacebar, then left click, hold and drag that pesky room name away. It takes a bit of practice, but it can be done!

    What ever happend to the dimensioning tool? There used to be a way to right mouse click on something and it would bring up the dimensining tool and you labled it front, left, etc... elevation, put in some dimensions and you were done. This seems to be a complicated work around

    Xactimate has a long way to go with sketching elevations. I use Softplan for drawing homes. It's way easier and more accurate to use.

    • @EstimateMastery
      @EstimateMastery  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the reply! Xactimate is primarily used for insurance estimating, I do not think they have any intention on being a CAD program. Thanks for the hint on Softplan, loved checking it out!

    You said you were going to address changing the pitch if the roof in this segment???

    • @EstimateMastery
      @EstimateMastery  5 років тому

      Hi Jason! You actually can't address pitch with these applications; you'll have to work from the gable height from under the eave to the pitch of the gable. Does that help?

      @@EstimateMastery I actually figured it out using the elevations tab. Only thing I’m having g trouble figuring out is gables. I’ll send you an email with screenshots on that. Maybe you have a way to do it or I would probably have to manually calculate the gable SF and add it to the total. I’ll let you take a look

    Just a question... When working in 3d view after placing an area in an interior room, how do you change the dimensions of that area. They appear to be locked without a way to change them.

    • @EstimateMastery

      Hmmmnnn......that's interesting that you say you can't resize as I just tried it (wanted to make sure there wasn't a known glitch) and mine resized without an issue. I would get with the online tech support that's free 24/7 to access at eservice.xactware.com

  • @archlab007

    First let me say that I appreciate the videos. But this one makes no sense. Why do 2x the work (& add in a new point of failure)?
    Maybe it's because I come from the world of Architectural software / BIM which has more functionality than Xactimate (at least from the drawing side of things).
    This method of sketching the elevation as a floor, when you already have the Elevation done via the 3D view. Since I'm new to Xact, it seems strange to me that there is not a 'View' command to show all the Elevations concurrently with the Plan or any other sketches.
    Even if there is not a way to show multiple 'Viewports', it seems counter-productive to make an Elevation in this contorted way. It just seems like it could cause problems with the data/ calcs (again, the point of failure).
