I’m glad you guys are having these conversations. Sitkas influence in the outdoor community is undeniable. I’ve been in the military medical community for 10+, some of that in SOF and emergency medicine is one of those skill sets that everyone should have knowledge on. However some of the medical information given here can be easily misconstrued or misunderstood by the layperson. for anyone wanting to deep dive into hemorrhage control, I recommend checking out DHAs Deployed Medicine or the Stop the Bleed initiative.

I always bring an IFAK into the woods.
2 years ago while solo hunting I cut my hand bad with a scalpel knife while quartering out a whitetail and rushing through the process chasing daylight.
The blood loss wouldn’t stop and without my kit I would have been really screwed

Barklow is an amazing asset.... pay attention people. 90 percent of bleeding can be stopped with direct pressure. Israeli Bandage or similar is great in a kit. Dont hear it mentioned much. The average person is going to do more damage with a C-A-T. I mean even self applied most people wont crank it enough because it hurts too bad. Or they will apply it when its not needed and cause some severe tissue damage. I will most definitely not allow any random dude to slap a tourniquet on me... Keep up the outstanding work guys.

Applying a CAT is not a complicated procedure. However, An Israeli bandage alone will not control any life threatening arterial/venous bleeding. CAT are the go to for any severe extremity hemorrhage. It takes hours before they can cause any “severe tissue damage”

@@Wolflung an improperly applied CAT can cause instant nerve damage. It might take several hours for tissue damage to occur.

@@jacoblogsdon2850 I can assure you it does not cause instant nerve damage. I’ve been using them and instructing on their use for over a decade. Serious secondary effects(nerve/tissue/circulatatory etc.) are rare during “short term” application and do not occur until the 2-6hr mark. So much so that they are relatively safe to train with. The training version of the CAT is nearly identical to the real-use model. Not to mention when your concerned with major hemorrhage those secondary effects are not important. Controlling life threatening bleeding is. And this is best done with a deliberate tourniquet on the extremities. Pretty standard and basic stuff.

@Wolflung guy, you seem to be dead set on this. Great for you. Do your thing. But don't try to argue with my personal experiences. GWOT gave us plenty of opportunity to apply the CAT. I personally know 2 people who are single leg AKA from improperly applied CAT.

@@jacoblogsdon2850 I’m set on it because what you’re saying is incorrect and could mislead people. Your anecdotes and personal opinions don’t outweigh the evidence.
