Adding the questions here for the community as I had to write them down for myself:
    1. Do you think we're heading for a period of massive Ai disruption?
    2. Are you already using Ai in your business?
    3. Are your customers using Ai?
    4. Do you see Ai as a threat or opportunity for your business?
    5. How are you preparing your business for Ai?
    6. Do you think Ai is going to be positive for WordPress?
    7. Do you think Ai will devalue the work for web professionals?

    1. Massive AI disruption? Definitely, with one caveat. Supply chain issues with China and Taiwan could disrupt the availability of the chips needed by AI.
    2. Using AI in my business? My wife is an artist and we used AI to generate images that she can use as references when painting. I am looking at AI as a way to generate blocks and plugins. I'm also looking at AI as a way to maybe refactor some of my existing PHP code, and maybe even converting my custom PHP code to JavaScript.
    3. Customers using AI? Not that I'm aware of. So far they seem much more clueless than I am.
    4. Threat or opportunity? Initially an opportunity, but maybe a threat in the long term. However, I've been hearing on and off for decades about how new developments are going to eliminate the need for most programmers, and it hasn't happened yet. For designers, I'm not sure, although, as more of a back end person, it could eliminate the need for me to engage with designers. Also, I'm past retirement age, so I don't worry about this too much.
    5. How am I preparing my business for AI? I feel in a state of chaos. I don't have a lot of time to delve into AI, but I know I have to make time.
    6. Will AI be positive for WordPress? For me it depends on cost. If I have another cost to add on to hosting, paid plugins, video hosting, etc. it may be the straw that breaks the camel's back. On the other hand, if there is a cost and it replaces some of my current costs, then it would be positive. I can see a future for WordPress where there is an AI component that you use to create the initial site with layout, design, functionality, and content and then you go over it to improve it as needed. This is already happening in a very preliminary way with ZipWP, but still has a long way to go.
    7. Will AI devalue the work of web professionals? It may, but my experience with users is that they often want someone to do the work for them, even if they are theoretically capable of doing it themselves. Wix is a good example. The idea of Wix and others like it, is that you can create your own website without technical knowledge or design skills. Yet, many Wix customers end up hiring developers to help them. Also, I have clients whose sites I have created with Divi so that it would be easy for them to edit the content on the front end. I've then trained them on how to do it. And most of them still come back to me to ask me to do the content changes for them. However, if AI gets to the point where people can just talk to it and discuss things like objectives, branding, functionality, design, etc. and the AI can interact like a web developer would, and produce the product a web developer could, that could all change. I would say that's a long way off, but as Ray Kurtzweil has shown, these sorts of changes can happen exponentially, and when we hit the upswing of the hockey stick curve, all bets are off. I think the biggest thing is to stay flexible and informed and hope you can roll with the rapid change that is probably coming.

Yes. Mainly for royalty free images, copywriting
Yes. I use AI all customer project
Yes a threat if i don't keep up but it can also be an opportunity.
Yes staying prepared by keeping up with the latest AI news and implementing what we can
Yes for from a user perspective. WordPress might finally get the chance to be user friendly. haha
Yes it will devalue the work. But simple front end design won't be enough. You'll have to try to take on more responsibly with the management of your clients websites in other areas . The plus side is there will always be people willing to pay someone to do it for them. You'll have to improve on your marketing game to reach those people. I also think there will be a short window for an opportunity to make a small fortune by staying ahead of the trends before the masses learn and master what's new.

I could see AI causing a lot of job losses in the film industry, essentially once you have a script (which could be AI generated as well), you've got a movie.
The film industry has been moving this way for a long time anyway, essentially regurgitating the same story lines using evermore CGI.
Having said that there could be more opportunities in live theatre, human nature being what it is we'll still have that need to see a live performance.
If you're daughter learns all of the key skills needed to produce, direct and edit etc these could still be used for a range of live shows.
She's probably in the best position of being young enough to adapt to however the sector changes.
In terms of websites i could see most hosting companies offering some form of "instant" AI generated site which will probably suit the needs of most small/medium size businessess but larger companies will still want a person pulling the levers to some degree.

Hi Jamie, here are my 2 cents:
    1. Do you think we're heading for a period of massive Ai disruption?
    Somehow yes
    2. Are you already using Ai in your business?
    Yes
    3. Are your customers using Ai?
No but they read the Media. Someone thinks AI is "magic", someone else think it's just another nerd/tech gadget
    4. Do you see Ai as a threat or opportunity for your business?
    Opportunity
    5. How are you preparing your business for Ai?
    Testing, studying, using it
    6. Do you think Ai is going to be positive for WordPress?
To be honest there are some developments in WordPress I can't get. I can't understand where they are going. In a recent interview you published your guest told it perfectly: WordPress will be for agencies or for developers? I can't answer to question #6 until I will understand this.
    7. Do you think Ai will devalue the work for web professionals?
For some of us yes, at least a % of the work will disappear because some client will try to build their website on their own. Not a big loss in my opinion.
I am old enough to remember the world before WordPress and CMSs in general, at that time web designers cried their world was going to be over... I am still here, doing the same job with different tools

Enjoy the gold rush. But I am worried about how generic everything is going (and starting) to look, sound and read. I know we follow trends etc but AI takes generic to another level after the 30 second wow factor subsides. Serious trust issues as well concerning its content. Perhaps we'll be there to help a client double down on their individuality, reputation and unique selling point amid an AI industry of inaccurate information and imprecise designs far removed the client's vision. Also, many of my clients struggle to boot up a PC let alone work with AI.

I'm not high level enough to use AI on a website but I do know that Tesla's FSD Version12 neural network (photons input, driving output) software which replaced Version11 (on old fashioned 300,000 lines of C++ Code) has been described as "not just indistinguishable from how a human can drive but safer." It's forecast that Robotaxis will take over road transport for the masses starting in a couple of years. Online marketing could migrate to a spoken product request being selected=best product for your need, purchased=best price available, and delivered by AI. This will all still need someone so add up to date product info to the web for the AI to access. @@jamiewp

AI is a race to the mundane, a regression to the mean.
People like me, who make a living writing, designing and with photography, will be reclassified as "classic" or "traditional" workers. We will have a niche to fill, but there will be too many people trying to serve that niche. I will be a quaint, old fashioned creative that produces "organic" work, divisible from AI for it's flaws, but uniqueness.

Look at your video from last week - first gen AI on WordPress did a decent job of kickstarting a complete web site. Imagine a well developed AI with a proper UI to develop sites compared to the process now. It will put a lot of stress on devs like you.
I'm a fiction and non fiction author. AI is crushing us on process - the nuts and bolts of putting the story together. In the time it takes me to research and outline a non fiction story or article, AI can do ten just as well.
There is still a big difference after the research and outline is done, I still need to do a lot of work, but AI will 10x the output I can create. Get a few minimum wage workers to fill out the blanks and fix the language and I'm out of work.
It's already happening. I've lost several writing gigs to AI and I lost a technical customer support job for a company that does $29 million per year to an advanced AI chatbot linked to network admin.

I think technology is best used as a tool if people forget that then yeah there's going to be some disruption. I also know that no matter how well they program it, it will never imagine what could be, because it is limited by the programmers imagination to begin with. So nature is still going to be much better at coming up with innovative combinations than computers or humans, that has stood the test of time throughout all the evolutions we've gone through so far and that isn't going to change. 1. Do you think we're heading for a period of massive Ai disruption? - Most definately.
    2. Are you already using Ai in your business? - Yes, Photoshop's generative feature
    3. Are your customers using Ai? - probably, without even knowing.
    4. Do you see Ai as a threat or opportunity for your business? - Ultimately, I'm not a fan. The argument that it gives us more creative options (as stated in your interview with Wordpress founder) is blatantly untrue. It will continue to make us more stupid as a species as we lose the ability to be creative and connect with each other.
    5. How are you preparing your business for Ai? - reading and understanding the implications of AI but not leting it take over my creative work flow as much as possible.
    6. Do you think Ai is going to be positive for WordPress? - No. I think Wordpress will change beyond recognition and put us all out of work. And, refering to your interview with the Wordpress founder, AI cannot be compared to a pencil. It is not just a new tool and his disingenuous replies to your questions reveiled how grossly uneducated he was about AI (which I doubt, given the impact to his business) or how disingenous he is.
    7. Do you think Ai will devalue the work for web professionals? - Possibly, how can it not? Where will the specialization be if anyone can type a few words to create stunning websites?
What are you doing to prepare for AI?

    3. Are your customers using Ai? N/A
    4. Do you see Ai as a threat or opportunity for your business? Neither. We will learn to detect, discount, etc, just as we have for product placements and advertising.
    5. How are you preparing your business for Ai? Education, and developing good bs detectors

    6. Do you think Ai is going to be positive for WordPress? Neutral. The code that I have created with GPT-4 I would not trust.
    7. Do you think Ai will devalue the work for web professionals? No. AI will be integrated into the creative processes - as a critic, and for fast sketching.
You asked a different question in the video - suggesting that we were going to see the end of a lifelong career, and a need to be nimble. This happened oh so long ago already.
I suspect that AI combined with business intelligence (CRM, google tracking) will lead to ultra-personalized products and services. Imagine a website where what is displayed is generated specifically for the viewer. It may mean the end of privacy. Or it may mean that the EU imposes strong privacy controls to stop this personalization.
The AI impact on political campaigns will be enormous in the short term.

I like it. Every time I hired a WP developer, it was always like pulling teeth. You pay thousands and have barely anything to show for it 5 months later. You pay them by the hour, and they just pretend to work. You pay them by the project, and you get a poorly built code. This is welcome competition.
