Nice entry Jason. I haven’t had teachers since the eighties. Maybe I need to give it another try. Looks like you’re living large up there in the great white north drinking Scotch poolside. Lol
Wow this was amazing, I almost thought that I was the only one who noticed! The story that you told at the start is nearly my story, The only difference being I have not ever bought the new Teachers.
Teachers highland and dewars white label are my favourite blends in this price range. I also like the teachers 12 golden thristle(islay cask finish) which is a bit higher in price.
Hi Jason, I appreciate the update as I used to like the old THC but gave up on it after the change for the worst. I'd like to know how I would be able to tell if I am getting this newest improved iteration? Has the label changed again, or any type of identification on the bottle? I know some of my local stores seem to have old stock on any number of things (sometimes that works out to be an advantage on certain brandings, but not here in this specific case), so I'd like to give the new bottling a try if I can get the right one. Thanks!
The bottle I am pouring from in this video has the new label. New I guess is relative, been a year or two now. Anyhow, I think the best thing to do is ask the store clerk when they get a new shipment of Teacher's? Enjoy!
Hey Jason, thanks for the awesome review! I have almost bought a bottle of this several times, but hesitated due to the mixed reviews. The changes over the years explain that. I will give it a whirl! I can get it for $21.99 here in BC 😁
I've been alternating on bottles of Grant's and Teachers Highland Cream lately and I think I finally decided that Teachers is my favorite sub $20 blend available in my area. It's smokey, not too sweet, and funnily enough not too smooth either but somehow that doesn't stop me coming back to it. Great review man, it would seem we've got similar taste. Also I get what you're saying about it tasting like beets, I never thought it did until you mentioned it and now I can't un-taste it 0_0
Great review. This particular new release of Teacher's brought me into the whisky world couple of years ago. I never tried old release. I completely agree with you that it's really good. Teacher's is readily-available here in Russia. From 14$ to 22$ for 0.7 bottle.
Владимир Комаров Your comment brings to mind another good thing about this blend and that is it is widely available in many different countries (especially India). Thanks for commenting!
This is a great review! I have been avoiding Teacher's in favor of Black Bottle because I heard the peat in Teacher's was drastically reduced to almost non-existent. I saw Teacher's for $14 a 5th and couldn't pass up the opportunity. I was surprised when I tasted because I can clearly taste the peat. I would say it has as much peaty and smokiness but a lot less of the cloyingly sweetness of Ballantine's. I thought I was crazy until confirmed my suspicions with your review. You're the only review I found with an update on Teacher's. Teacher's will now be my Tuesday Scotch. Ty much kind sir.
Yup! Its great stuff and you said it well about Ballantines being cloyingly sweet, which is why i dont like it. Too sweet. Teacher's challenges you with the smoke, peat and other flavors. Thanks for commenting!
@@JasonDebly I finally got a bottle of White Horse and, although it is good, I much prefer the spicier finish of the Teacher's over the honey finish of the White Horse. White Horse is still a better economical blend than most on the market today I believe.

Hey J we have to stop meeting like this! I bought my first ever Teachers on Thursday! A lot of whisky for $15 - a litre @ 43%. I only had a sip - but dang what a value! Adios amigo.
My daily favorite, I’ve been noticing it disappearing from the shelves in my local stores much more frequently I guess people are catching on demand is up? Very underrated, many scotch snobs are turned off by the low price. Snobbery aside like wine the best scotch you can buy is the one you enjoy. Labels are irrelevant.
" I’ve been noticing it disappearing from the shelves in my local stores" This used to be the case 6 or 7 years ago where I live before they ruined it. Then they had no problem stocking it. I sure didn't buy it anymore. Now it is the lowest priced bargain priced blended scotch available -- and suddenly the best in its price range again. Remarkable.
I noticed you wrote a review on White Horse online, but I can’t find a video review of it. I saw you mentioned Teacher’s and White Horse were among the best budget blends in that review. How would you compare Teacher’s to White Horse? Which is better?
White Horse is better value and frankly, better taste. Haven’t reviewed on UA-cam because I can’t lay my hands on a bottle. The distribution is really weird. Hardly ever see it in the US anymore, never in Canada but viewers in Brazil and India get it, and I saw it and drank it in early December at a resort in Varadero.
@@JasonDebly Awesome, I’ll be sure to give it a try. It’s scarce down here in Texas too, there’s only one mega store that carries it (same store that only carries Teacher’s HC here too). The price on the White Horse is about $38 and the Teacher’s is $31. Those are the 1.75L bottle prices. I Love Teacher’s but I’ll have to try White Horse on your recommendation.
Hey Jason, great review as always! I really like your reviews/blogs on the peated blends. Would just like to point out that Jim Beam was bought by Suntory a couple of years ago. So what ever they are doing with this whisky in the last years is a bit confusing, but anyway lovely dram never the less. Keep up the good work. Sláinte from Bulgaria!
Bought a 750 at the LCBO today. This must be my introduction to peat. You didn't like it the first time? This definitely has old school character. With club soda and ice it mellowed a bit but then again it wasn't hard to drink neat either. Just different. I've got to trot out the cliché; it's an acquired taste.
I believe this is the best deal in Scotch. Maybe the best value in whisky. It tastes so good. Like a young Johnnie Walker Black. Destroys the Red Label, which is actually still more expensive than this. Amazing. Nose is great, flavor is excellent at the price. $34 in the US for a 1.75L (tax included), and here in the states, it’s 86 proof. Just, wow!
It's one of the few good bargains left. There used to be Black Bottle too, but they changed the blend's key malts and now it is a disappointment. Try and find White Horse, a real scream of a deal in terms of quality for a cheap price. All the best in 2021!
Nice review, Jason. I've been a fan of Teachers for a while, and like you I felt it lost something a few years ago. I wasn't aware of the Glendronach saga, so I put the change down to the blender cutting a few corners. I recently bought a bottle as warm up drink for the whisky club I'm in. It was greeted with a few grunts and groans when I put it on the table, but the club members soon changed their opinion after trying it. And they really changed their opinion when I told them I paid $19 for it. Cheers
This was exactly my experience with Teacher's and stopped buying it. They wrecked it. Hopefully all those responsible were fired. It's now the cheapest blended scotch in the store. I noticed the bottle was different and, on nostalgia, bought one this afternoon to try tonight. I looked up reviews just now and watched your video. Now I'm glad I did and am looking forward to giving it try tonight.
I hope it lives up to your expectations. The flavour profile is precisely like the old Teachers of the 80's but its darn close and works as a good daily sipper on a budget.
@@JasonDebly You're right! It's back again as easily the best "bottom shelf" blended scotch by a long shot like it was. When word gets out it will often be sold out like it was just 6 or 7 years ago before some bean counters ruined it. This is great at the rock bottom price of $21 a bottle here in BC. The value is very high.
In my country I buy that bottle for 6-8$, fantastic whisky at that price. Its a poor man's Johnny Walker Black or a rich man's peated Grants. Killer value.
I agree that Teacher's is back. I drink it with a dash of dry ginger ale and a couple of ice cubes and the smokey, peaty malt notes cut right through the sweetness of the mixer. Great on a hot summer's day in Australia!
Oleg Koshkin Hi! There is no obvious date of bottling indicated on the label or the bottle itself. There is a "17" by itself on the base of the bottle. Maybe that means it was bottled in 2017. I dunno.
Now that certainly is interesting news Jason! I remember trying Teachers four or five years ago shortly after delving into the world of whisky, it wasn't all that great from what I can remember. But since I trust your judgement I will definately pick up another bottle just to see if it suits my tastes. Can't go wrong, it's just under $26.00 Canadian! LOL
I picked up one bottle at NBLCC and it was great. Back I go a couple weeks later for another and it was fine too. I think the owners of Teachers have directed the Master Blender to change the blend for the better!
It's nice to have some affordable choices out there. I will definately revisit this one. Unfortunately we've lost Wisers Legacy. Dang! It was twice the money as the Teachers Highland Cream but still within the price range of what I consider affordable. I bought the Wisers 15 and find it kind of thin, not as rich as the Legacy and doesn't have the oily mouth feel either, a real shame! It's also only 40% ABV. The Legacy was a better value, for sure. Thanks again Jason for your spirit reviews, they are always helpful and informative!
I'm not a Blended guy, but I hear so much about this one. And always good stuff. I dont want to sound snob,, but I turn it down because it price. Normally cheap stuff is really bad. I never come down from 19,50€ that's the price for Bushmills Black Bush and never cross the line of the 100€ Even 100€ is too much. I spent 87€ in a Talisker 20 yrs and believe me, it was the best 87€ spent it. It's a must try in your life.
I had my first zip, and I decide this one will be my daily whisky. Is soft in peat, light and a little bit sweet. For the price is amazing, never thought I could find something this good for this price. Thank you for your review.
I agree the new stuff is tarry and very flavorful. I get mostly raisins and vanilla as far as sweet/fruity on the tongue, and then quite a bit of peat and some saltiness. Smooth but has a bitterness to it (like all young whisky and spirit). As cheap as good vodka here in Sweden. Much prefer it to vodka!
Yup, Teacher's has improved much, but I did buy another bottle subsequent to this review and it was a little off. For the price though, it works. Thanks for commenting and have a happy holiday!
My grandfather used to drink Teacher's and lemonade. I think he also took it neat but that's all anyone got him for a present because he didn't want anything else
@@JasonDebly He'd be pleased to hear you say that. I think it would be carbonated though, so a kind of whisky-soda type drink. Do you also have that kind of lemonade in Canada or just the cloudy kind?

Cheers
Yop, lot's a people turn their nose up at it, until they taste it and also factor in that crazy cheap price point.
Thanks for commenting!
finally found a bottle!! bought it on your recommendation, thanks!!
Enjoy!
Enjoying this one. It's like a NAS JW Black (one of my favourites) with a little less complexity for a little more light and creamy smoothness.
And a lot lower price!
@@JasonDebly Forsooth! The only whisky I can get cheaper at my local newsagent than on Amazon or at a supermarket, which pleases me immensely.
Nicely put!
I agree that Teacher's is back. I drink it with a dash of dry ginger ale and a couple of ice cubes and the smokey, peaty malt notes cut right through the sweetness of the mixer. Great on a hot summer's day in Australia!
The other cheap blend that has improved a lot recently is Grant's Sherry Cask. I will review it soon. Thanks for commenting!
Teachers is one of the finest blended Scotch Whisky’s! It’s also an excellent value.
Teachers is a good blended whisky. Im so happy because here in Brazil only cost 40 Reais ( arround 7$ USD).
Hi Jason, can you check a bottling date of this bottle? Thank you.
Oleg Koshkin Hi! There is no obvious date of bottling indicated on the label or the bottle itself. There is a "17" by itself on the base of the bottle. Maybe that means it was bottled in 2017. I dunno.
Thanks again Jason.
Well, I guess every man has to match to the beat of his own drum.
Would you still recommend this?
Yes, absolutely!
Have had it recently and still very good for an economy blended Scotch.
@@JasonDebly i appreciate you letting me know, cheers!
Hello sir, i am from thailand i just ordered this whisky . I am very excited to try it.
Awesome! Enjoy!
That Teacher's is almost as interesting to me as taking a dive into your pool...
foodquig
Ha! With this heatwave it is inviting for sure!
Good review. Subscribed!
Much appreciated! I don’t ask viewers for thumbs up or to subscribe. I like to leave it up to themselves.
@@JasonDebly Have you reviewed Auchentoshan American Oak? Picking up a bottle soon.
@@johnzajac9849 I have not. It’s decent and a good price.
I had my first zip, and I decide this one will be my daily whisky. Is soft in peat, light and a little bit sweet. For the price is amazing, never thought I could find something this good for this price.
Thank you for your review.
Awesome! Another even better daily sipper that is incredibly cheap is "White Horse" but very hard to find. Welcome to the channel!
@@JasonDebly I'll try White Horse later. Here isn't uncommon (Spain) is every store. You can find it everywhere and it's really cheap.
Marcos Casado It’s very good!!!
Will definitely give this a try if I have it available locally.
herrskymarshall It is widely available all over the world. I would be very surprised if it was not available where you live.
Jason Debly live in a control state in US so our selection is sort of random at times
herrskymarshall
Oh, ok. Well hopefully you can grab a bottle.
Best,
I agree the new stuff is tarry and very flavorful.
Thanks for commenting and have a happy holiday!
great review!
Great review
Good work bro
Thanks!
Damn, you are making me want to try this🙂
You gotta try it. Nice change from all those single malts.
I tasted the latest one only, it seems I’m a lucky guy.
Boy, I got this for 7.50 euro on sale, and had to check with you if I'm delusional or this is pretty good whiskey...
My grandfather used to drink Teacher's and lemonade. I think he also took it neat but that's all anyone got him for a present because he didn't want anything else
Teacher's and lemonade? Intriguing and intuitively sounds like a great mixed drink. Will have to try! Your grandfather had great taste!
@@JasonDebly He'd be pleased to hear you say that. I think it would be carbonated though, so a kind of whisky-soda type drink. Do you also have that kind of lemonade in Canada or just the cloudy kind?
@@Molach101 Just got the flat cloudy lemonade, but come to think of it, we do have San Pellegrino lemon, a carbonated lemon based beverage from Italy. So, it would work!
Cheers!
I like homemade one 😊
Teacher's is very grt blended smooth scotch
my taste is like the wind ...so many directions but this stuff is Ok
Teacher's taste like the people who made it hate everyone and everything.
in Carousell , i saw some new product(?) with a black strap in the label see i.imgur.com/kGemmiJ.jpg
Might be a slightly different label but same contents inside. Only one way to find out. You have to get a bottle and report back!
@@JasonDebly bought one like yours in less than USD20/L( Hong Kong), it's guite good though my daily JWBL(USD40/L) is a bit better! thx
Joe Ng It’s better but probably more money too. Teachers is a good value for money proposition. Thanks for commenting and have a great 2019!
Average drink..not good
