    I had a pre facelift 95 M saloon back in the mid 2000s. Bumpers were all body colour. Absolutely adored it and I only sold it to buy another Sapphire RS Cosworth, that I shouldn't have bought.
    The t16 is a good engine, but the pistons I am told like to melt over 12psi, but mine was fine at that.
    I had a 97 R 620ti a bit later and it was not a patch on the 800.
    Would definitely love another, preferably a face lift saloon.

    Yet another Rover people who have never owned own love to condemn . I have a Mk1 Sterling and they are great cars. Its a car which really stands out when parked amongst other types. It still has great presence and its a car you cant help but look back at when walking away. The steering is so light that when manoeuvring at slow speed you could turn the wheel with 1 finger but the steering is speed sensitive. I prefer the Mk1 to Mk2 for its styling ,its more streamlined but i can appreciate a Mk2 and am warming to them more and more. I wouldn't be opposed to owning one and there seem to be more available. I also like the Coupe. The 800 in my opinion was the last proper Rover , what i mean by that is the 75 is a good car but i feel one thing that lets it down is rear passenger leg room. .The 800 provides rear passengers with good leg room. as did the Montego. The 75 was the replacement for both models.The 75lwb would have been my option. They did also make an 800 lwb (Coleman Milne van den plas) and i am not talking 6 door. Like the 75 it had an extended rear door but wasn't too much to make it look wrong. They were made in both mk1 and 2 formats but there are quite rare.

      Well said J Jay. I don't think I could put it any better. Being a former owner of a few 800's. 825 sterling. 827 Vitesse. 800 Vitesse saloon.

    Great video. Very nice car & always look great in red & fastback form. Cracking styling & were ultra modern in the mid 80’s, when they came out

    I remember driving a 1990 Rover 827 Vitesse in New Zealand years ago. Had 2.7 Honda V6 with auto trans. The thing I remember was how hard the car rode. I don't know if it was on its standard suspension but gee it was hard.

    • @beardsandbangers
      @beardsandbangers  Рік тому +1

      Sounds like it had some tweaks to the suspension. I think the 800 as standard is pretty comfy to drive!

    Thank for doing this test. It didnt arf take me back to when i owned a few 800's.
    I have a question for you. You've tested that 2.0l turbo Vitesse and you own the ZT 190. Which of the two in your opinion is best? Which would you Love to own?
    If you can get hold of one i recommend you test the 827 vitesse. You wont want to give it back lol.

    • @beardsandbangers
      @beardsandbangers  Рік тому +1

      Thank you. I am very used to my 190 and only drove this 800 once so hard to compare. But..... I would be very tempted by one of these. I may be able to get hold of an 827 very soon to do a comparison video!

    Great engine, we had it in a 620ti. Seriously good. The gearbox sounds a little weak in that 800, some whining on the overrun audible. A common fault on the T16 drivetrain.

      @beardsandbangers  Рік тому

      Drives like a dream. I would like to experience a 620ti at some point.

    Rover 800 is really nice to look at? what have you been smoking mate, it even has a serious fittment issues nothing fits properly on the car, besides my arse on the leather seat behind the steeringwheel but everthing else not good to look at it, now the 75 yes thats a good looking car, but not this. This is good for crusing and confort and not worry about anything else.

    Spent a long time admiring this very car at Gaydon a couple of weeks ago. It really is a stunning example. I really think I want to purchase one to go alongside my Rover Coupe.
