  • Sharon and Frank stop in at Jade city on our way to Dawson City and chat with Claudia the star of the TV show Jade Fever.
    We have explored hundreds of mines all over north America. Going places nobody else would dare to go. We do this for two main reasons. First to document the mines for future generation. Mines are being filled in and collapsing at an alarming rate. Second to collect artifacts for our museum. The museum is open to the public and we don't charge an admission. Come for a visit! www.google.com/maps/place/Exp...

    Jade Fever - Air BNB, so cool. 8 months of winter, i thought 5 months was bad. A small piece that Frank held, must be a couple a hundred $$'s. That Military truck must weigh 22 1/2 Tons, wow. What a place, museum, WOW.

    At 10:59 that's a Gardner Denver air track minus its slide rail and hammer. I've got one of those that I picked up as surplus from the Navajo Nation for $55.
    That Oshkosh rig is absolutely awesome. If it weren't so far from me, I'd love to poke around Scrappy Larry's yard - I've yet to find a mining salvage yard that didn't have something I wanted to bring home!

    If I remember correctly, that jade mine was owned/co-owned by the Galleli family of Calgary back in the early 70's. They were a really fun bunch of people.

    Thanks Frank, a very interesting area. I stopped there a couple of time while heading north and ventured into Cassiar once while it was still an operating mining town. Was surprised to see the piles of asbestos material right in town. The mountain scenery in the area is spectacular. I'm a fan of Gold Rush and occasional viewer of Jade Fever so find the northern areas very interesting. Hope to head that way again next year with my 5th wheel.

    Thank you for showing us around Frank. Loved seeing those huge chunks of Jade, and wandering round the site. It was interesting to hear how the operation works from Claudia. I liked that Claudia appreciated the traditional method of carving the Jade. The hand made one inch bear was a lovely piece. Sharon looked very comfortable behind the wheel of that supersized transporter - Oshkosh, I bet she could have driven it too, no problem. Thank you. Take care and keep safe. ❤️👍❤️

    Hello in 1998 my son and I drove thru Jade city nice place and years later I found out there was a big asbestos mine down the road that closed some time ago and one of the big wigs later work with me at a cold storage whse and we talked about the Jade area and the big asbesto mine he worked at Cjd wash state .

  • @CassiarClan
    @CassiarClan 3 роки тому +3

    I worked at the Cassiar Asbestos mine in the early 70's. It started as an open pit but later went underground. Did you get up to the Ericson Gold Mine, you would have passed the access road to it just outside of town. It was underground and was abandoned in early 70's. Asbestos and jade went hand in hand and we dumped tons of it over the bank.

    I operated Eimco 21 and Atlas Copco LM 56 models of mucking machines as they are called in the Porcupine Mining District of Ontario, Canada at the now closed 117 year old Dome Gold mine, in the 1970's, which I was trained and licenced for.

    • @Porty1119
      @Porty1119 3 роки тому +1

      I've heard of the Dome. One of my clients has a 24"-gauge EIMCO 12B at one of their gold mines; the mine is on standby until milling can be arranged at which point they'll resume production. That 12B was underwater for several years; all it needed was an oil change and it was ready to muck! There's also about ten assorted EIMCO muckers at the yard, including two 630s.

    Jade is a wonderful stone to carve, if you have right tools. As mentioned it is tough, so can be carved very thin the only other stone I know of that you can do this is certain agates. Watch out for jade though, it has an asbestos component in it's make up. That's what makes it tough, natures fiber glass. Make sure to wear your personal protection, including a dust mask, use water to keep the bits cool, and keep the dust down.

    Jade fever is on Amazon Prime Video if you want to watch it in the USA. It must be on Discovery in Canada. Good show though! Pretty cool you got to talk to talk to Claudia. Her husband seems really cool but she sure is the hardcore boss. Their son mines with them too but he seems like has a lot of growing up to do from what you see on the show but year after year he is coming along. I know what it’s like to be young and grow up in the family business. Too bad you didn’t get to meet Scrappy Larry on video he is quite the character, plus I could probably spend days looking through all his cool junk. Looked like a fun trip, you sure are living the life!

We have 1000's of pieces of underground and surface mining equipment new and old D11R"s,Letournea L 2350's komatsu,Liebherr T280's just to name a few I know for a fact they won't let me video underground they have a new policy about that

    Did you also have a look at the cassier mine site? As i can rememer there were a lot of mine entrances. This was at the end of the tram line. But we didnt enter the tunnels, just looked at the geological situation on the surface. Would be so great for me to see whats inside that tunnels!! Greetings from Austria!

    I knew what asbestos looks like. I've found it in Northern California gold mines, and used to have some in my front porch rock collection. --- There were experiments done depriving people from sunlight, clocks, radio, tv, any way of telling time. Turns out people tend to naturally run in 25 hour days. --- I recently saw an Oshkosh truck that was bullet proofed, including all the windows. I thought "perfect vehicle for the zombie apocalypse."
