This is the only correct tutorial on youtube, many don’t mention to compress the crown stem into the movement before measuring the distance between the crown guard and the crown base. Very important. Kudos to u man. I wasted many stems before coming across this video. Thanks brother!
Built my first watch last night... It was all going so well until I cut the stem too short. Straight back on eBay for a replacement. Wish I had seen this video sooner 😅 great tutorial, thanks!
Hi, recently I brought a new movement to replace the old movement, and it uses a different stem. So I need to remove the old stem from the original crown, so that I attach the new stem to the original crown. Can you please show us how to remove the old stem from the crown? 🙏
Just finished my first watch and this was the last thing. I eyeballed it and cut without measuring. Got it right the first try by some miracle... The second hand was a totally different experience, however.
@@ChillinwitWatches Otto Frei sounds familiar, I think I thought about taking that course last year. I'm just ordering one with the most reviews and stars.

I’ve bought 2 factory crown with a long stem, using pinch vise gripping crown the stem will spin but will not spin off. I’ve heated the stem thinking theirs glue preventing the stem to thread out of the crown.Ever hear of that.Funny thing both crown and stems do the same they won’t even tighten up factory Seiko 007 factory parts.

I come back to this video every time I have to cut a stem. Thanks again Pete!

May I ask, when you measure, you got 6.12mm but when you cut, you use 7.14mm what is the discrepancy between those two measurements?
It looks like the difference is the size of the clipper
That build is gonna be real nice Pete😉😉😉
Excellent excellent tutorial vid. Really helpful. Thanks Pete 👍👍👍
Awesome video, Pete! Very easy to follow. Keep the mod vids coming!
Thank you! Hope it's useful.
this is a fantastic demonstration. Had issues with my build and this cleared up why. Thanks for posting
Awesome, love when the vid is helpful!
Great video. Super helpful. Thanks!
This is a great how-to. I have cut and replaced stems before but I have never thought to use my calipers...I liked all the little tips 😊👍
Thanks man!!! Glad it was helpful!
Thanks mate, this was an excellent vid!
Thank you!!!
I have a broken crown just waiting for the watch! (I am recovering from a stroke, as soon as my hand works,! Will give it a try.)
Great step by tuition - much obliged
Super helpful demonstration!!! Thanks a bunch!!
Well done dude. Helped out a lot.

Do you know where I can purchase spring loaded screw-down crowns? I can't find anyone who advertises them with those words. Thanks
I was into modding but I never leaned how to properly cut a stem. Thanks.
Cool man, I thought it might be a topic not often addressed.

You make it look easy.
That's cause it is! Lol
Great vid! Your technique is a lot easier than mine. Do you have a certain brand of pin vices that you recommend? Amazon has too many to choose from.
Thanks man! I think I got myb pin code from Otto Frei when I did the timezone online watchmaking course.

Between the crown stem cutting and the second hand installation the current build is a massive pain
It gets easier, but yea, pain is part of the experience! 😂
What power Optivisor do you use and where did you pick up the Pin Vise?
It's a 4x + 2.5. I got both it and the pin vise from ofrei
I'd like to know that as well

Pin Vice. 💥
So guitars and watches . . . Sounds familiar, except that my strat is Fiesta Red
Sweet! Why do these two go together so well!
How do I know which crown fit my watch? It's a San Martin Watch with a NH35.
You need to know the tap # for the threads on the crown tube, then get a crown with the same tap #.
@@ChillinwitWatches
Ok is that the tap size in the NH35 whick is Tap 10 or do you mean the that i need the measurements of the watch case?
@@GabrielSkolderblad yes, to take an nh35 stem. But is it a screw down crown?
