How to FIX THE AFL

- There are so many issues in the AFL that the 18 clubs are sick of. Obviously the holding the ball rule is a mess right now but the competitive balance review has yet to be sorted out and people want answers. Will there be a mid-season trade period, what's going on with the draft and will there be a national reserve competition? Right now there are more questions then answers.
Player Vetoes must stay, imagine a player’s kids have to move school half way though the year because dad has been traded to West Coast
Agreed. The MLB in season, even in game trades seem like an unbelievable plot in some 2000's Disney sport movie.
Players and their families need to be considered above our entertainment in my opinion.
I'm sure the well off kids of a footy player who is worth being traded for will adjust to a new good school and nice house.
Touch some grass ffs
Players have a choice to sign up to AFL and play professionally and if that's the modern league system then they have to get with it
Plenty of kids have moved for dads work etc
And it's only for a few years the dad will make heaps of money and they can be well set up and have a decent life and choose where they live.
Most of us don't get to choose where we live. We live where we can afford
@@RyanQuinn0397 mate, I don't think it's fair on the kids or family.
When I was in the ADF, where they can literally send you anywhere, anytime for however long they like.
Lots of divorced guys with no relationship with their kids because of this reason.
Yeah moving once is doable, but families will just not follow they player around. What's the point moving, finding new schools, wives making new friends etc just to get traded and repeat the whole process.
It sucks, it ruins families and is a huge hit to your mental health, having this sense of not feeling like anywhere is home, along with feeling like your ruining your kids childhoods.
A mid season trade period would be a disaster and only benefit Victorian teams. It would allow Victorian players to move clubs without moving house etc. yet if say the Crows wanted someone like Nick Bryan to solve their ruck issues, they’d have to convince him to travel interstate and lift up basically his whole life on incredibly short notice. Yet if Melbourne traded in Rory Lobb, he wouldn’t even have to move house.
And trading players without their consent is ridiculous too. Yes, they get paid good money, but they still don’t get paid enough for that. They’re not on NFL player money or soccer player money where it would be worth it.
Both ludicrous suggestions.
Best AFL channel out there ❤
Appreciate it
clubs say clubs should have more power lol. The easiest way to make tackling safer is say you can't kick while being tackled, just like with bouncing the ball. Then you don't need to bring a player to ground or sling to stop a kick in the tackle. Also blocking rules aren't enforced most of the time, any rule that is mostly ignored by everyone should probably be pulled back. AFL is too obsessed with keeping footy looking the same to make sensible changes tho. Third man up was fine until Nick Reivolt was too good at it and changed the look of ruck contests
Dont let coaches or media change the game for starters 🤦♂️
The media has literally nothing else to talk about
A few things I'd like to comment on
1) As was mentioned in the start of the video about the holding the ball rule, I think the main issue with that (and other rules in the game) is each individual umpire at each game. Even though they all follow the same rules, their interpretation of holding the ball, high tackle, pushed in the back etc is based on what they see and understand. So what happens in one game the umpire might see it one way but if the same thing happens in another game the umpire at that game might interpret it another way.
2) With the teams traveling interstate for games each week, that is just the way a national league works. I can understand teams having to travel from Sydney to Perth and other cities that have large distances, because it takes a lot of time and money to travel there. As said in the video is to have multiple gather rounds during the season, but I can't see the AFL doing this because of numerous reasons.
3) I can understand some teams wanting shorter quarters, but I don't think it would achieve much really. Unless the playing time is significantly decreased, I don't think cutting 2 or 3 minutes of playing time would do much. You would still see quarters stretch out to 30+ minutes sometimes, depending on what happens on the field.
agree with everything
Loving the content atm
thanks
Great work!
thanks🙏
Give power back to the clubs. Players easy mobility and over officiating umps are killing the league
The issue with mid-season trading is that vic clubs are at a huge advantage, players would almost always choose to stay within their state and most teams are in the one state that state is better off
That's why no more trade vetoes is a must. I agree, no point bringing in a mid-season trade period if players can deny trades. Vic clubs will get a huge advantage.
There is a large financial aspect to it. Relocating costs a lot for the player and their family. There should be a relocation bonus for anyone that moves interstate.
You need to be able to put yourself in the shoes of the player with the veto call, God damn.
