Best driving album ever. When you're waiting at a light while this shakes your entire car, and you have people in the car next to you trying to shazam this before the light turns green, you know you're a saviour for all mankind, sharing the gospel.

Lorn = best choice for ghost in the shell soundtrack.

  • @s1xiv93
    @s1xiv93 5 років тому +81

I feel like Lorn somehow invented a machine that allows ghosts and other supernatural entities to approach and pass through it. The machine assess their overall vibe, their intentions and mood and the beings can even whisper or speak into the machine. The machine then processes all of this and then it pours out on the other side, our side, as this amazing auditory phenomenon that allows you to barely feel what they feel, for part of you to go where they are or where they've been. I know this is all very hippy dippy and such but I really can't understand how their music makes me see and feel what it does.

You are hearing the sounds from the Void.
It makes you feel the way you feel because you know where this sound came from.
Their brain pattern transcribed into sound and it's making your understand what happened when this was composed.

No machine - it's all organic. The "ghosts and other supernatural entities...approach and pass through" him. It's as simple as that.

The Tones and bass, the snares and brass.
It's like listening to the heartbeat of a monster that lives deep within a volcano.

I mean no disrespect when I say your interpretation vacillates between beautifully hopeful and hopelessly naive. For our whole lives our consciousness tries to find and assign meaning to this existence through symbols.and creation, only to discover that eternity always wins, and we are all nothing. Our little games are meaningless in the face of timelessness. But we will keep trying to find our way, because it's all we have.

“We are nothing” is the same as saying “we are everything” I get what you mean though, oscillating between the one and the other is -us- On one hand, in a million years no one will even know we were here on this planet. On the other hand we are here NOW in this very beautiful moment, that could not be repeated in exactly the same way even if we tried to (in an infinite multiverse each with infinite timelines), listening to an artist that makes us question existence and interpret it in different ways. That’s some powerful music!
And you mentioned games, yes! Lorn plays an exquisite game of “making music”. While we play the game of “what does it mean?” (In between “the work game” and “the family game” and all the other games we play under the umbrella of “the human game” under which the universe plays us - if anyone doesn’t understand go listen to Alan Watts - The Joker and get your mind blown 🤯)
Got Damn Lorn! Ripping a huge hole in my existential beliefs!

I cannot put words to how beautiful this musical landscape is but I'll try anyway, and maybe that's the point, to go beyond the words, right at which moves and motivates from within, an attack on emotions, off which the surrender is somewhere alongside the blissful planes of pleasures only music knows how to deliver.
This maze to nowhere is a trick, the maze is real, how every notes keep one hostage is the trick. Well done Lorn. I am simply put inexplicably amazed beyond what words can express.

I think I've figured out the notes in There Is Still Time.
It's got such a haunting progression....something about it is just insanely beautiful. Almost has a shoegaze quality to it.
So.... the higher drone that plays throughout is basically just Ab.....which briefly slides down to a G....before going back to the main Ab drone throughout.
Under that....the bass tones appear to be(I could be wrong, but it sounds good!): F - Bb - Db - Eb. That's it. Simple. But so so good.

This would work so well in Deus Ex or Blade Runner! It sounds so dark and dystopian!

    • @GlitchUnpatched
      @GlitchUnpatched  6 років тому

you'd have to contact lorn about using his music in a video game, but i'm pretty sure that using it for a video or whatnot would be totally fine bc of fair use law. of course i'm not a lawyer, so if your own research contradicts that last point then take that over mine.

Anyone know of any other musicians with curious sounds? Pretty lights and Gramatik are my other two current listens and I wouldnt mind some more variety.

+Potato Salmon you might really enjoy Eskmo. His new album is made out of many field recordings and if you have time and some really good headphones, listen especially to the tracks SpVce, combustion, the sun is a drum and can't breathe. I've been listening to all of Lorn's songs for a while now and I recommend checking out his other stuff like Ask The Dust and Grief Machine. If you want to hear something that has a more dancy, but still incredible sound, check out ZES' Hindsight EP, the tracks on there like Grimm, Bliss and especially Final Decay will blow your mind. I also recommend DIVERSA's soundcloud. Lots of experimental and beautiful sounds ranging from jazzy chill beats to experimental dubstep. If you really like electronic, check out The M Machine's metropolis eps (part 1 and 2, there are 2 ep and the 3rd "Just Like EP" is not part of metropolis series and is not really impressive).

I bought a nice set of sennheisers recently so headphones are up to scratch and I'll definitly be checking all of these out, I've gotten into geovybe lately too he does some interesting remix's and is still quite obscure so I like to promote people like that, his shapes and pieces album is very good and there are lots of excellent remixs on his soundcloud.

+ jenelle hall - we´re in the same boat! although i make music for a long time already, i still hesitate to publish it here on youtube...
someone told me: hey, you´re in a creative field, there is no "right" or "wrong", we support each other...
i found that quite encouraging and i thought you might as well - maybe we should publish our stuff at the same time now, what do you think?
i wrote that to you already from my second account, i erased it, but if it shows up somehow in your inbox, you know why... :-)
      love and greetings from germany

Upside Down Cops gives me anxiety....jesus.
That beat sounds like cops are outside my door knocking incessantly to be let in.
Guess that's fitting given the name of the track.
Note to self: Don't ever listen to that song while high. o__o

@@ARINOXMUSIC Well, I'm jealous then lol.
See, back in 2012 I was arrested in my OWN apartment for weed poss. I had a friend over to write/record music, we smoked of course, and some cops happened to be around on some unrelated call...smelled it...and got us when we stepped outside. It sucked.... And it made me forever paranoid to smoke...even at home. Bear in mind, I live in Tennessee....one of the most regressive states when it comes to policies of this sort. :/
I got a 14 day jail sentence(for 1/2 gram)....tho by law I could have gotten up to 1 year. I lost my job, car, and apartment. All this...while people in other states could go into stores and buy the stuff.
      So....yeah. Fun times. :/
