Europe based Patrol owners watch out! We have a different color coding system. If you don't want to use the original green Nissan coolant you'll have to go for the BASF/VW color coding. As you want silicate free coolant for your Patrol, the coolant to choose is the pink one [G12+ (VW), G30 (BASF)].
A very good video on how to flush and replace engine coolant, I should have watched it before I did the job. I’m glad to see that I am not alone in stuffing the head on the 12mm engine coolant drain plug (inaccessible little bugger that it is) currently awaiting a new drain plug from Nissan. I did the job without removing this drain plug. I flushed the system through with soft tap water several times draining through the radiator. Then flushed through with demineralised water twice before adding the coolant and topping up. I took off for a short drive in between each flush to warm the system up. This makes it a bit more time consuming than draining the block of coolant via the drain plug but there you go. A less considerate person might think Nissan make the engine coolant drain plug from especially soft metal to confound the home mechanic but I’m not like that!🤔🤣
@@Alex.G These little buggers have to be ordered from Japan and cost around $25. You would think something so basic would be stocked in Oz considering the large number of 3 litre Diesel engine out there. I managed to get it out during the 120,000 service but stuffed it this time around. Careless bugger!🤪
Very helpful video mate! Love that you actually got someone qualified to also assist with the video, helps reassure those watching that its the correct process. 🍻🍻
I didn't go through the whole comments if it's commented before, but the coolant does RAISE the boiling point temperature and LOWER the freezing point temperature.
I was always taught to park the vehicle on a very slight incline so as the front is slightly higher than the rear of the vehicle so as you r filling the coolant and bleeding the system air can escape a little easier..
The block drain plug is tight but easy to get off its not that soft, you just needed to tap your socket onto it so it went all the way on. It has a good amount of head on it to grab. I tried to insert a photo but don't seem to be able to
a really important note here is to check your handbook for the correct coolant to water ratio,in some engine, even a slight increase to book ratio will eat Aluminium and on large diesel engines will eat wet liners. you can use tap water if you have no other option is fill a 20 lt bucket let it sit for 24hrs so the chlorin boils off. good video guys
Nice video. Just did the same process a couple of weeks ago. However, I thought you where supposed to fill up coolant in the expansion tank with the yellow lid and markings for high and low on the tank, and not the one with a pressure cap?
@@Alex.G ah OK I see! So for example, when I drop the bottom hose off my falcon, it would empty the block because my thermostat is up top? Maybe that why my falcon and old Land Cruiser never had a drain plug in the block, because the thermostat is up top so dropping the lower hose releases the water from the block
😂😂 love the life mannequins in the back there They are good. Keep up the good vids. I was going to say at what time they were at but I'll let others watch and see.
I didn't actually know Nissan did a blue coolant. It's definitely green for most GUs, I would expect it's the same for all GUs but it very well could have changed in later models

Good comment this one! I'll pin this for others to see 🙂
Every Australian generally knows how to cut a bit of garden hose off
This vid has the best thumbnail on UA-cam so far in 2020.... 😎

Yeah what a pain in the arse having to work around that stupid bung hey 🙄 it's like it's made of plastic!

Keep your heater on full ball while filling up and driving around

If my temp gauge goes up but botttom hose stays relatively cool I’d say my thermos is fooked
Top job. And I think most Aussies are good at chopping up the garden hose 🤣
Excellent video. But I'm having a hard time finding the engine block drain plug on my tb48de engine.
Good stuff guys.....cheers...
Don't forget eye protection either, that stuff is lethal getting it splashing into your eyes!

You are doing great job. There is everything on youtube. But nothing about patrol. You guys are amazing. Hats off legend ❤️❤️
Awesome video mate I’m still learning my patrol my first GU very helpful hopefully more car maintenance like this
Just wondering if using an air compressor to try and get as much of the tap water out? just a thought
I learn't more from this women than the 50 other blokes I've watched on youtube. Amazing what a qualification does :D Thanks guys, very useful video.
great stuff
good one guys❤️👌🏿
Can you make a video on how to change blinker fluid?
Awesome vid Alex I normally run a radiator flush when I have a big session on the beers and need to unclog the next morning.
No ya don't, we all know you prefer to get a coupla blokes up ya when things are a bit clogged up 😁
@@Alex.G blokes on blokes is the only way
You better be hitting that

Thanks Dan that's a bloody good idea to mention 👌
@@Alex.G no problem at all, 25+years as Diesel mechanic glad I can help.
love ya channel keep it up
Yet another video I needed to see, thanks for this one

Hehe 12" hose
Nice 😏
Great video wish u put in on 2weeks ago as I never new coolant was still stuck in block, oh well next time will drain block cheers guys 🍺
I couldn't get the block drain plug of mine when I did it
Ah dammit I was hoping it would be a td42t. Only a zd30 so non applicable.
Great vid! Wouldn't dripping the lower radiator hose release the water from the block?
On this engine the thermostat is on the bottom hose, so unless I dropped the hose with 82 degree water in there, the thermostat would block any flow 🙁

Hey Alex do u have a video for waterpump replacement?
Nah I've never had to do one

How to pull out the blower motor out of a gu 1998 nissan patrol
Thanks. Great video
I was under the impression that blue Nissan coolant is what it comes with the car out of the factory?
I didn't actually know Nissan did a blue coolant. It's definitely green for most GUs, I would expect it's the same for all GUs but it very well could have changed in later models
I feel 5:40 was for my benefit?
I found the drain plug! Oh she is tight! 😁
I couldn't get mine so tight
Great vid

Is riannan for hire, mechanical repairs on the side too.
